I am 28 years old and have have been overweight since my early teenage years. In July of 2003 I was diagnosed as prediabetic with insulin resistance. I have been on Metformin since then, but have struggled to lose the weight.
Now that I am married and want to start a family, I am finding a new obstacle: PCOS. I have been told by numerous doctors that PCOS almost always accompanies insulin resistance.
We have been trying for over a year, but because of the excess weight and the conditions I have, we are finding it hard to conceive. I want to have a healthy body so that I can stop worrying about my health, which has caused a great amount of stress and anxiety, as well as have a healthy baby.
I finally have the calorie counting down thanks to help from this site. I have struggled with it in the past, but I have found using the site and keeping a food log have helped me see that I really wasn't eating very well, and where the extra calories were coming from.
I have unsuccessfully tried to lose weight for 10 years now, and I am ready to actually DO IT! I started this group because it is harder to lose weight with insulin resistance and or PCOS, but not impossible! We can do this together!
My starting weight: 250
Current Weight: 246

Welcome to Everyone and together we will conquer weight!
Hi. My name is Karen, I am 27 years old and I also have PCOS. My husband and I have been TTC for almost 4 years now. I have a 4 year old stepson who I claim as my son but we really would love to have a child of our own. I have only been on Calorie Count for almost a week so I am still learning. I wanted to join this group because I think it is best to have as much support as you can when trying to lose weight. My starting weight is 280 and my goal weight is 130. I hope we all accomplish our goals.
Hello, My name is Brenda. I am 27 years old and was diagnosed with PCOS about 2 years ago. My husband and I have a daughter who is 7 years old. We have been trying to conceive another for about 2 years with no luck. I have tried Metformin with little results but do not have insulin resistance yet. I joined this group cause I believe that we can support each other in our weight loss journey. And my sister (karenz2 joined). My starting weight is 259 and my goal weight is 130. Come on everyone lets lose some weight!!!
Hi, I am Emily from Houston, Tx. I am 30 years old and was diagnosed as borderline IR a little less than 6 months ago. I weighed in at 223.5 on the day I began my "prescription" of exercise, low glycemic diet, fish oil pills, birth control and Advandmet. With this mixture I now weigh 161.5 lbs. My symptoms were a irregular menstrual cycle, skin tags, fatigue, anxiety, and acne. It (the condition) threw my cholesterol off (fish pills), boosted my testosterone (birth control) and raised my insulin level to 11 (advandmet).
When I did my follow up in January all my levels were back to normal and by Feb. my insulin level was back to normal as well. So it's working.
I was always told since high school that I was on the heavy side, though when I look at it now I wasn't much overweight. In college and afterward I ballooned and kept going. I tried half heartedly to "fix" it but to no avail.
So here I sit, i have to lose 25 more pounds before the doc will consider taking me off the advandamet and let me try to regulate the IR with diet and exercise. The only thing I still have lingering is that my hair began falling out in early feb. Doc says most likely the large weight loss in such a short amount of time has thrown my other hormones out of whack and to give it time- also could be my fish oil pills so cut back on that.
I am here to say that it is possible to change your life. I promise.
Hi, I am Sheila from NC. I have been overweight all my life. My max weight was 239 over a year ago. I just joined CC 2 weeks ago @ 222lbs. I have lost 4lbs a week since I have been on it. (Now 214) I have never been so ready for life change and I have never had support like I now do. I have a couple of friends on here with me. We email our food logs to each other every day. It helps keep us accountable and encouraging one another regularly.
I am joining this group because I don't know anyone w/ the same issues I have. I am IR w/ PCOS. We have been unable to concieve and we have stopped trying for right now. I need support and would like to support anyone going thru this. It has been a rough road but I have finally come to terms with things and want to better my life no matter what the future holds.
