Hey!
Just trying out the new groups function.
I live in Kansas City (of course) and am excited that we will finally have our own group. I'd love to eventually get some people together and have a real live meet-up.
1. I've been up and down for most of my life...not obese and not stick thin. I've always been somewhere in between.
2. I joined CC when I decided to get off of the roller coaster and find a weight that was right for me that I could sustain forever.
3. I joined this group because I live in Kansas City and am curious if any others here on CC do as well.
4. I'm not all that interesting. I'm married. No kids yet, but hopefully soon. I have three pets: two cats and a brand new German Shepherd that we just adoped from a rescue group.
I am from Kansas City, Born and Raised....
I have been a little bigger than i would like since i hit pueberty so many, many, many years ago..... I lost sixty lbs four years ago and have gained back forty of it....
i joined cc because i figured i'd better stop while i'm still ahead twenty lbs.... and i was hoping this calorie counting thing would work... AND IT HAS BEEN, lost five lbs since joining two weeks ago!!!
Interesting things about me.... i work with kids in foster care... i love my job, my kids, my foster parents and my co-workers, which is so very rare in social work!!! and i have an eight year son.... my little tight end.... GO WARRIORS!!!
Welcome, Jada!!!
Congrats on your weight loss so far!
What part of Kansas City do you come from? I'm in Lenexa, which is kind of part of the "Greater KC area"
Hi all. My name is MaryAlice and I live in Lee's Summit, Missouri - just south of KC proper.
I've been struggling with my weight for about 20 years ago, since I first had abdominal surgery and gained 20 lb, and then 20 lb with 2 more fun surgeries. It seems I've lost and gained the same 30 lb (it is back with me now) and I would like it to be a permanent loss, along with another 20 or so more pounds to go.
I joined CC in 2007 (with my usual 25 lb loss), fell off the wagon until this past July, and now I am back.
I live in Lee's Summit (Lakewood) with my husband and 2 dogs. I am 52 and retired (YES!) 2 years ago, the day after my 50th BD. I enjoy retirement very much and keep pretty busy. My 2 dogs drag me out on a 2-5 mile walk 5-6 times a week, and I plan on starting cardio workouts in a few weeks (after a vacation with my spouse).
I joined this group to meet some new friends, always a positive thing. Plus I can always use some support with the weight struggle. Looking forward to chats/emails/etc.
Welcome, Maryalice!!!
I spent most of my youth living in Lee's Summit. My husband's family actually lives in Lakewood. Small world, eh? I only moved to the Kansas side a couple of year ago, but I still visit LS a LOT.
Welcome to the Kansas City group!

Oh a TRUE Kansas City person! Let us know if you know of any good restaurants around there. I'm trying to broaden my hubby's horizons. He's in a food rut and it seems like unless it's Outback Steakhouse, he wants nothing to do with it. I'd love to take him to some place cool or funky.
Nice to meet you Peaches! Small world indeed with Lakewood. We moved here about 4 years ago and my husband (who grew up in Raytown) knows so many people here from high school (eons ago, mind you). We live off the left dogleg on the 9th fairway. Speaking of restaurant (ruts), tonight I am headed to Nick and Jake's (135th and Metcalf) for my mom's BD dinner. My niece works there and says the food is good (what else would she say?), so you might suggest that to your husband. This weekend we are headed downtown for the air show, eating in the P&L district and then Springsteen. Looking forward to the dinner out in P&L area, there are so many new places there.
And whereabouts in Lenexa do you live? I lived in OP and Lenexa for about 15 years and all my family lives in Merriam area still. I am the lone rebel who moved to MO.
My hubby's family lives one block from the Truman Medical Center Lakewood...but I know exactly where you are referring to. It IS a small world. I've never heard of Nick and Jake's. You will have to tell me how you like it.
I've been to the P&L district and LOVE it. Been to the Sprint Center and love it as well.
I actually just moved from Lenexa. I lived off of 87th Street near the police station. We just bought a house in Gardner so now I'm REALLY in the outer KC area. I'm just the opposite of you though. I'm the lone rebel who moved to the KS side. All the rest are in MO.
Okay, now the world is really shrinking: My dad lives in Gardner, way out there (though everyone else is in Merriam area). How funny. As for Nick and Jake's, I am not terribly impressed with their menu, but I am hopeful. Looking more forward to P&L district though. Leaning toward Vinino maybe; depends on what our guests want to eat though. Will let you know about N&J.
As for new threads, only thing my brain-dead mind can think of is what about this weather or, even better, how 'bout those Royals? Much hysterical laughter about the Royals. Ah well, as long as we can laugh...
Yeah. I thought about that too, maryalice. What else to talk about???? I have an idea that I will post later when the launch of the groups function isn't so hectic...I was thinking about a meet-up. Others I know have done it and they all say it's fun. More to come on that.
I'd be willing to start a Chiefs thread so we can cheer and boo our (sometimes) awesome team.
angelchrys, I haven't hit any of the good restaurants yet. They say Whiskey Creek is hit or miss. Some have liked it and some don't. There's a Chinese place called China Taste (I think that is the name) that I hear is good. AND I'm totally psyched that they have a Chipotle here. That place is always awesome.
Peaches, sounds great for a meet-up, even if I have to (shudder) go to KS.....
Nick and Jake's at 135th & Metcalf was pretty good. I had Grandma Pat's chicken, which was a broiled chicken breast (split) with gouda. Surprisingly moist and tender, so very good. Out of 4 of us, 3 had the same chicken dish and we all loved it. Calamari appetizer was just so-so. Chocolate cake dessert was HUGE - a full 1/4 cake! The few bites I had were pretty good, but it has been very long since I have had a dessert, so that could be the chocolate talking.
PS: You can just call me MA vs having to write out my full name, a lot easier. I am leaving town Wed until 09/13, so I will only sporadically be checking this site. Look forward to continuing to meet people.
Hi everyone!
My name is Andrea, and I live in Liberty with my husband and 22 month-old son. I was excited to see a KC group on here!
1. I feel like I've always struggled with my weight, although now I look back at high school photos and marvel at how good I looked. After dealing with gestational diabetes while pregnant with my son, I decided that I had to do something about the pounds that had gradually piled onto my frame. I joined Weight Watchers in January 2007 and have lost 70 pounds (as of September 2008.) I feel like I'm in a bit of a plateau because I've been at the same weight more-or-less for the past 6 months.
2. I joined Calorie Count today on the advice of my personal trainer (I enrolled in a 7 week group training course with other moms at our local community center.) She suggested this site to help keep tabs on our calorie intake.
3. I signed up for this group because I'd like to be able to get to know other people in the KC area who are working towards weight loss goals along with me. I've tried to lose weight all by myself in the past and have failed miserably.
4. As for interesting details...I'm a stay-at-home-mom to a toddler who is in the throes of the teething monster, so that's always fun. My undergrad and graduate degrees are in history/art history, and I love wandering around a good museum. I'm also a complete nerd for NASCAR and football, so fall is a very good time of year at our household. :)
I'm looking forward to getting to chat with you guys!
Hey everyone! I'm Yvette, I live in Independence with my amazing husband and our dogs.
1. I have always been a big gal. I have tried things for short time and give up on them, so far the only thing that really ever worked for me was weight watchers and then I got to a point that I said "Shooot, I don't need to pay for this crap I can do it on my own"...I"m now about 40 pounds heavier. I think that what we think is what we get in life. I always thought I was a fatty, but I look back and realize I was husky but I looked pretty good. I am currently the heaviest I have ever been in my life and pretty upset about it. My cousin-in-law has lost like 80 with the help of this site, I am really hoping that this will help keep me accountable and motivated. As much as sexy fat rocks, I'd rather be thin :)
2. History with Calorie Count: I have never counted calories in my life, I just joined yesterday..so far it's not to painful!
3. Reason for joining this group: I'm a chunky monkey that
needs to fit in her old clothing! I want to be healthy, I want to be a
hot wife for my hot husband, I want to not want to cry when I go
shopping, I want to wear the cute stuff, I need help, I can't do it on
my own so I know I need the support!
4. Well I'm married, almost 3 years now, no kids just two
dogs. We have a house with a chunk of land that's great for BBQ's and
bonfires! I'm a photographer, just started Mustardseedz
Photography...LOVE IT! I also work at a church, help with festivals
and events that come through KC, and looking into another evening job
for some extra cashhhhh! I'm usually a glass half full kind of gal,
the simple things in life please me most, not a sports fan, love art,
our earth, nature and the environment, and adore music. And that's
about it in a tiny tiny nut shell!
Peace and love!![]()
Hello KC!!! I'm Chelsie :)
I decided to take advantage of the new groups and wanted to connect with people in my area. I'm a very active person and one might say a social butterfly.
1. I've been heavy since I was @ 12 yrs old. Once I hit 18 I pretty much stayed the same weight (@ 200lbs). Since moving into the corporate world a few years ago, I've been more sedentary and have gained about 20 lbs. (OMG!!!)
2. I've always put up the front that it doesn't really bother me, but it does. I'm basically a pretty happy-go-lucky type, but I have been using this site as a kind of therapy; a place where I can say whatever I like and how I'm feeling. Unfortunately I vent alot about my negative thoughts, but no one in my life would ever tell you that I'm a negative person. I try to put out into the world what I want back, and that means I smile alot and just enjoy the simple things along with some moments of extravagance thrown in for good measure.
I've been on CC since April and initially lost 12 lbs. but put it back on after a surgery. Now I'm trying to get back in the habit of eating right.
I could write all day, so I'll spare you rest of my detais right now.
Have a great day everyone!
Chelsie
Howdy Everyone,
What a deal!! I just found this website and thought HUM looks pretty cool. So I decided to join (the free thing helps a lot).
1. Well I have been struggling for the last 13 years and have been up and down with my weight. I tell people I still have baby weight that I can't lose.. I guess I have to stop saying that she is 13 years old now. I want to lose almost 40 lbs all together. I'm pretty short (4 foot 10in) so I'm short and stumpy (HAHAHAHA).
2. I'm really new to this site, can't wait to see how well I do with it.
3. I need SUPPORT and if I can it with local people ( I live in Overland Park) even on a BB, it sounds perfect way for me.
4. I have a job that requires me to travel, not a massive amount, but enough. I'm a Benefits Enrollment Specialist, so I speak to people all day. So with traveling you eat out a lot... Not fun. I have 2 kids and I'm married. My 13 year old daughter keeps me really busy with her activities. I also have a 19 year son whose primary goal is to not get in trouble and finish school right now.
So that's a little about me.
Talk to you soon
Sherri
Hello and Happy Hump Day!
I don't live in the KC area. I live up, way way up in the NW corner of MO, Maryville MO, home of the Bearcats!!! (Homecoming is this week-GO CATS!!)
Lets see, where to begin?
I'm 43yrs YOUNG, Divorced, three children, I work at NWMSU-GO CATS!! I will be a grandma for the first time this coming January.
Now that two of my three children are raised and out of the house. I finally divorced the dip I was married to for 18 years. I have a great job that I enjoy. And I finally found a true love with my boyfriend of two years.
There's one part of my life that I need to fix and that's my weight. A 20 year bad marriage, depression, and no excerise. I turned to food to feel better.
Now it's time!! I pulled my fanny up off of the sofa in July. I haven't lost any weight, but I have lost inches. I know I need to adjust my diet better, that's where I get confused!! Do I count calories, do I count fat, do I count points, ugg what do I do??
Hi everyone, my name is Kristen and I live in Belton (just south of KC).
1. I was on a diet and exercise routine about 1 year ago through a biggest looser contest through my work . I did really good, I lot 10 pounds in 1 month, then I found out I was pregnant. So there went all that weight loss. I was on bed rest alot of my pregnancy so I wasn't able to be very active. My son is now 5 months and I am ready to try to get smaller again. I am having trouble however getting motivated and finding to energy ( with my son and my 6 year old)
2. I seen calorite count in a mag and decided to try it. Hopefully if there are other people who are in the same situation the we can offer eachother hints.
3. I joined to recieve and give advice and to make new friends. I would like someone to go walking with or something. My husband says he will be supportive but he thinks if you want to loose weight just work out. Duh, don't we all know it is that simple. This coming from a guy who eats whatever he wants and alot of it and still stays at 135 lbs. Therefore I need some outside of my home support.
4. Well as I said, I am married with two kids. I am a CNA at a local hospital, I just re-enrolled in college to finish getting my RN. I start that in Jan of '09, I am very excited. We have 2 large dogs, 1 cat, and 1 snake at my house. We are in the process of trying to move (we out grew our house) but we are not having much luck selling our home in today's market.
Good Evening Everyone...My name is Jr. I live in Kansas City and grew up in the Northland area.
I've had weight issues my entire life. It all started when I was just 3 years old. I was allowed to eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted too.
I started playing sports when I was 7. Even with the sports, I struggled with being the fat slow kid. I was always out there playing thou. I didn't let the weight effect my effort. I continued to eat poorly, through jr high and high school. When I graduated I was tipping the scales around 300 pounds.
After high school is when the weight really started to pile up. At the age of 26, I was an amazing 451 pounds. That was the worst day of my life, realizing that I almost weight a 1/4 of a ton.
November of 2006, I decided to change my lifestyle. After watching the Biggest Loser TV show, for the first 2 sessions. I decided it was time to change. I joined a small corporate gym by my work and learned how to eat right. I currently weigh 255. I've had the LBL procedure done, to remove all the extra skin from my mid-section area. I'm finally getting back on track and getting into a good workout routine.
I've been using CC now for 2 years, I think. It's helped me stay on track and understand my entire food intake. Having all the info at my finger tips, is AWESOME.
I joined the group, cause it's the KC group. I'm proud to be from KC. Some of you may have seen me on TV the first part of this year. I was interviewed by FOX 4 and channel 41, for my weight loss.
I'm now a certified personal trainer, working at a gym in the Northland area. I never thought 3 years ago, I would be where I am now. Things happen for a reason...You live everyday with purpose and put your best foot forward. As long as you can be happy with yourself, then nothing else matters.
