Hi everyone!  My name is Ali and I've been a KC suburbanite (Overland Park) since I was 11 years old...

My weight was in the "normal BMI" range most of grade school, then started to creep up in high school, only to top out at over 210lbs by five years post-college!  I hardly noticed, as most of my peers were larger too, and I was still wearing size 12/14 due to very EVEN body fat displacement.  Finally a wake-up call came from my doctor, and I put the brakes on the junk food immediately and began to learn about nutrition.  Over about 2 years I got down to 140lbs, and then began concentrating on fitness and health.  Two more years later and I am now steady around 125 or so and in much, much better shape than ever before.

I've been on CC for about six months now, and it has helped me learn SO MUCH about nutrition and fitness, I am incredibly glad to have found it one day while trying to learn the calorie count of a mango!  :)  I do wish I had found it earlier when I was trying to lose over 80lbs on my own, but better late than never.

I joined this group because I love this area, and know that a whole lot of really inspiring people live here!

About me in general...I'm interested in LOTS of things, too many to list, and love to talk to people.

Hi!  I'm from Olathe.  I am a runner, so I use use Calorie Count not for weight loss, but to track my nutrition.  I've used CC for about two years.  It's very interesting that, while I try hard, getting an 'A' is not something that's easy for me!  I wasn't even going to post, but then I saw that one of you (I can't see the screen name right now) has two cats and a German Shepherd.  So do we!  Our cats are Sam and Lacey, and our Shepherd is Sophie.  I never was a dog person, but I adore this dog.  Fortunately, my husband and son do the unpleasant jobs with her, and I just get to enjoy her company.  Of course, the litter boxes fall to me, but that's okay.  It's worth it!

Good luck on your weight loss goals!

Hi

I am 27, a mom, student, and new to CC, started today. I'm 5'8 and 190 want to get in shape and lose about 30 pounds by April. Luckily my body holds my weight well, but I've picked up some extra weight that I want gone. I looked up and I weigh more than I did when I was pregnant with my daughter 4 years ago!!!. I worked out in the past and love to play basketball, I stopped and on came the weight. It's not hard for me to get started and to be motivated, I just have to make sure that I'm diligent. I've actually been counting calories and working out for a week now, but this is the first day on CC. I thought maybe I could provide some encouragement and get some too locally. I'm in Independence and I'm positive I can do this!!!! Good Luck to everybody else too!!!

Hello everybody! My name is Cynthia but all my friend and family call me Cyn. I'm from Wellsville KS, which is about 35 minutes away from KCK.  I've been thinking about going on a diet for a while now, and just got to where I would like to take care of myself more and not worry about everybody else. I've always been the chunkier one of my friends and family. I gained weight when I was pregnant with my baby girl. I think I gained around 40 pounds (Thought I was going to die when I saw the scale at the doctors office) I lost the weight after I had her, it just fell off. But, sadly since I lost my job I have gained it all back and then some. (blah)

So, with the help of my husband and my friends supporting me I hope I can get down to the weight I want!

hi everyone!!

My name is Jocelyn and I just recently moved back to KC. I was born and raised in the Overland Park/Lenexa area.

Few things about me...hmm..I am a professional dancer and have been dancing since I could walk. I've lived and danced in NY, Branson, Vegas, and most recently for a cruise line.  In the last few years I've had several health issues which caused weight gain and I found this site and love it!

Right now I am battling a massive weight gain of around 15/20 lbs. I've discovered I have a hormonal dysfunction/disease that has caused the weight gain.  I know some people would think "15lbs, that's it?" but for me, that is ALOT!! I've always struggled with my weight (it's a dancer thing) and in the past did some really unhealthy, stupid things to my body, but have resolved my issues and enjoy being healthy.  I'm trying to get back to my normal weight as quickly as possible, which should be easier now that i'm on medication, but it's always good to monitor your calories and activity levels.  And to keep myself from going insane and getting really depressed, I've come back to CC and am going to be here daily!!!

Hopefully with the help of you guys and my friends, I can successfully get back to being my normal weight!!!

xx

Hey, I'm Ryan.....

Every since I was in middle school I have been overweight, never too heavy and luckily I'm built very proportionate, but nonetheless I was not and am not where I would like to be weight-wise.  I have struggled with diets, I don't enjoy many sports or being outside a lot so activities are hard to stick with and I hate being hungry.

I joined this site to help me log my calories and activities so I would have more structure to my dieting/exercising plan.  (I like the daily nutrition grades they make me feel like I have accomplished something)  I decided that this year was my year to get healthy, so I quit smoking and started my weight loss plan.

I joined this group because I live in Kansas City and I need all the motivation and nagging (I tend to fall off the wagon after a few months) I can get.

As for interesting details.....I'm 27 and have 2 daughters, a 6 yr old and a 2 yr old.  I live with them, my boyfriend and our menagerie of crazy pets.  I have 4 dogs, 3 cats, a hamster and goldfish.  I work in Insurance (sitting all day) and love music, dancing, reading, writing and I'm currently addicted to Wii bowling.

1. History with weight loss: My mother, sister, and I are all a bit big.  I definitely a curvy type, and am great with that, but I do want to lose some flab.  I find I eat when stressed and often have used food as a reward (I have a raging sweet tooth, it's ugly!)

2. History with Calorie Count: I tried out CC when I wanted to stop using the Weight Watchers website, because it has a monthly fee.  I really liked learning about the weight watchers' "core" diet, because now I try to eat as healthfully as possible along with keeping an eye on calories.   It's like, I _know_ how to eat right, why don't I just do it!  So CC keeps me from sneaking things in

3. Reason for joining this group:  Just to offer support and have a sounding board with people who have a similar background as myself.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:  I teach in high school, my husband of 13 years is my best friend, we have two cute but stupid cats.  I love to listen to and make music, collect stamps (mostly first day covers), and am taking Chinese lessons in my "spare" time.

So nice to meet you!~

Hi! New to this but here it goes.

1. History with weight loss:

I am 30 and pretty typ[ical. Have slowly gained 20 pounds over the past 10 years and want to get rid of the love handles and double chin. I have gone through many cycles of dieting and working out and nothing seems to work, probably because I have not been consistant.

2. History with Calorie Count:

I just started a week ago.

3. Reason for joining this group:

I figure support can't hurt! And any tips and tricks I can find would be nice!

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:

I am a research scientists at UMKC. I have 2 kids 4 and 11 and am married.

Good morning! I've been a member of this group for a while but never introduced myself.

My name is Erica and I'm a 26-year-old married mother of two (four years old and six months old). I grew up in Leawood, moved to Lawrence to attend KU, moved back to Overland Park when we started a family and currently live in Shawnee.

Growing up, I was always thin. I didn't have to watch what I ate and I didn't have to exercise to maintain my 107-pound weight (at 5'2"-5'3"). All that changed after having my first child at 22. I ballooned up to 180 pounds at 9 months pregnant and managed to lose 36 pounds before plateauing. I had no idea how to eat in a healthy way, how to lose weight or how to cook. I finally stumbled on this website and managed to get back down to 118 by the time my daughter was 3. At that point, we decided to have another child (after I crept back up to 128 pounds) and I managed to only gain 40 pounds that time around. At this point, I am 6 months post-partum and have lost all but 6 pounds of the baby weight. That leaves a total of 16 pounds left to lose in order to get to my ideal weight.

I joined this group because I live in Kansas City and enjoy finding people on CC that live locally.

I work full-time and love getting out and about in the city. We do as many activities as we can with our kids. I attend a playgroup that is made up of moms in their 20s with all their kids. The support from them is amazing! We have a pug named Gizmo who loves our kids but often doesn't get the attention he deserves :)

Hi.  I just created my account yesterday.  I have been losing weight since January 2009.  I started at 201 lbs and yesterday I weighed in at 184.

I live in Overland Park, 32 years old, married, one son, and work in the Information Technology field.

I created this account to keep me motivated to keep watching my diet and continue to exercise.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to Calorie Count, but it seems like a helpful tool to have on my side as I embark on this weight loss journey.  I also joined the KC group since we are buying a house just outside of Lone Jack and I work in Lee's Summit for the Department of Homeland Security.

I'm 30-years-old, engaged, and have a wonderful 18-month-old daughter.  We have one dog and a couple of horses and I would love to find some time to start showing horses again.

I, like Erica, never struggled with my weight while I was growing up.  However, shortly before having my daughter, I was so busy burning both ends of the candle that I ate practically all of my meals via fast food.  I got up to 155 pounds by the time I found out I was pregnant.  Then during the course of my pregnancy, I managed to get up to 199 pounds.  Within 6 months after my daughter was born, I was back down to 155, but then I sat at that weight until I started my new job 6 weeks ago.

During the first month at my new job, I lost 8 pounds, but now I seem to be stuck at 147 and it's very discouraging since I feel that I'm eating better and getting in more exercise than I have in a long time.  However, with a little time and persistence, I'm confident that we can all reach our goals!!

Hello,

I am orginally from Kansas City. I am glad to see a local group on CC. I have struggled with my weight the last couple of years and most recently WW was my weight loss project. I am new to CC and thought that I would find an inexpensive way to attempt weight loss. I was recently married in November at 40! I am an accountant in the manufacturing...auto industry.

I have a trip to CA planned in June for a b-day party on a yacht. I wish that I could realistically be 10 lbs lighter!

Hi, I just joined CC yesterday.  I've never been really thin, however in college ( 20+ years ago! ) I was a good weight for my height ( 5'2"- 123 lbs. ). Over the years I have slowly gained weight- had two kids and with the second never really lost the weight I'd gained during pregnancy.  I've probably gained at least 50 lbs. over the last 15- 20 years.  Just recently found out I have high cholesterol and my blood pressure is up a bit.  I've known I've been overweight but really didn't think it was a major health issue- well the high cholesterol and risk for heart disease has snapped me into reality and now I've gotten serious about getting down to a healthy weight.  Have joined Curves and work out there 3 times a week, try to walk the other days.  Joining CC will hopefully help me to keep track of my fat intake, calories and so on.

I live in KC, MO in the Brookside area.  Married almost 26 years ( May 21st !! ), two kids, plus a very spoiled fur-baby- a boston terrier named Brock.  I am taking some time off from working to get my mind and body in better shape.  I enjoy walking, reading, collecting pottery, anything Native American, gardening.  Looking forward to getting lots of great ideas for healthy eating on here!  Dea ( my real name )

Hi my name is Heidi and I live downtown kansas City. I discovered this diet by accident. I hope it works. I tried weight watchers many years ago and lost weight but i quit that diet when i lost a job in 2004 and ended up gaining it back. Sad to say I  still can not aford it but since journaling seemed to help in the past i hope this free site will work for me.  I hate being overweight I have over 100 pounds to loose.

Hello,

I am 30 years old and I am overweight.  I have struggled with weight in my adult life as a result of a medical condition.  The only "cure" that I can take that will assist me in my weight loss, medically speaking, causes me to be infertile, however at this point I am infertile sue to weight issues.   My husband and i are trying to conceive and have been for years.  I finally went to the Reproductive Resource Center in Overland Park KS and they said that they will not help me until I lose weight.   They didn't care that it is nearly impossible with my condition with out sterilizing medications....they just want the weight gone.

So after crying my eyes out I decided that I wasn't going to let anyone or anything tell me what I could and could not be.  I have been hiding behind the "medical excuses, but even though I don't eat completely horrible, there was so much more I could do.  I never really watched my weight that closely because I told myself it did not matter because I would be overweight anyway because of the medical issues.

Well no more!  I am going to eat healthy and begin a work out regimine.  Basically I am not dieting or working out, I am changing my lifestyle, forever.  I decided that I have to do things that I can live with if it is ever going to work.  So I have been researching healthy foods that I like to eat already and looking into work out programs that I will enjoy rather than hate.

I am starting to change my life and yesterday was the first day of the rest of my life.

Hello,

I am 20 years old about to be 21 in 3 weeks. WOOO HOOO. I have been doing massive research concerning fitness and trying to really set a great regimen that will keep me fit for years to come. I am satisfied with my weight. My main goal is to TONE TONE TONE up. I want to be at a state where I can run 2-3miles in one session without feeling like my heart is going to come out of my chest that is my first goal at least.

I live in Kansas City, Mo currently, born and raised in Dallas, Tx. I am here only for school as I like to joke about that. That is one of my main problems I have soooo much school and I study about 6-8hrs a day. I don't want to leave medical school and be one complete mess. Instead I want to get my body exactly where I want it.

Im a health fanatic now. From healthy hair, glowing skin, and caloric intake.

I don't know what else to say but HELLO EVERYONE.

Hello!  My name is Carlton aka Chefcorky.  The Chefcorky comes from almost 20 years as a baker/chef.  Which is part of the reason why I am here.  I love food!  I love the flavors, the textures, the aroma...I love everything.

But the real reason for why I'm overweight is because of alot of issues from the past.  I've spent the last 20 years trying to heal my spirit and heart.  I've always had a pretty good life but there's always been a corner of my life that is a sad place.

So for me, in order to lose the 100+ pounds I need to, I have to take care of my spirit along with planned meals, motivating myself to exercise and WILL POWER!  I'm hoping to connect with others like myself to stay focused.

I've lost weight before back when I was in college.  I got down to about 150 lbs and a 32 inch waist.  I'm big boned so I look much better with a 34-36 inch waist and probably about 170 pounds.

Over the years, I fed that empty whole while I was feeding my love for food.  Which is my current challenge.  I've eliminated ice cream from my diet as well as desserts in general.  My weak spot is fried foods.  Plus, I just love food in general...Italian...Chinese...Thai...the flavors are fantastic.

I hope to read more about others and their struggles on CalorieCount.  Good luck to all of us.  We can do it!

Hello everyone.

1. History with weight loss: --- In 1999 I weighed 367 pounds.  I joined Weight Watchers and started the process of learning to eat the right foods in the right amounts.  Then I joined a gym.  Over the past years I was able to take off 120pounds.  I had lost 180 pounds - so that tells you -- I am in the gaining side of weight loss process.  Every day I want to kick myself for not doing what I know -- eat right and work out!

2. History with Calorie Count:  I just bought a Blackberry so I found this free site since I can use it on the run.

3. Reason for joining this group:  I need to log my food and keep track -- we all know that when you dont write it down, you forget you ate it.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:  I am having a birthday soon and I wont say how old I am :-)  Combination of birthday, and weight gain does not equal a good mix.  I decided to stop being out of my mind and get this weight problem in control - yet again -

I joined Jazzercise and I LOVE IT!

Welcome to the group lisamartinez05 ! I have found this site very useful!  Before joining CC, I had no idea how many calories I was consuming a day.  Once I started counting them I was shocked at how many I had probably been eating every day- it's no wonder I had gained weight!!  There is lots of good advice on here, healthy recipes and tools you can use to aid in your weight-loss.  I love that you've started doing jazzercise!!  When "exercise" is fun you tend to stick with it and it doesn't seem like a chore.  I do Curves and also Zumba which is a blast!  Good luck with your weight-loss journey- just take it one day at a time and don't beat yourself up if you backslide once in awhile- happens to a lot of us- me included!  Dea

I would love  to join the Kansas City group. I live in Blue Springs and I have been a member of CC since June 09. I started my endeavor in March 09 and have lost 27lb. So maybe I will find someone in my area I need a workout buddy to help me at times stay on track. I work out at the gym All American Fitness.  Not always focused as I should but getting better when I started I was writing down everything then stopped and now back to doing that and it helps. Really got back in the work out mode last week. Children went back to school which I have two in College. Now I will be able to focus more. With them home I made them eat what I ate but did not get to the gym as much as before. I work for a Utility company will not say which one you all may hate me. LOL.   By the way my name is Reba
