Well then I guess I'll start the ball rolling!!  I'm Duke and I have pretty much been overweight all my life.  And by overweight, I mean overweight!!  I topped out at somewhere around 650+, but am delighted to report I am now at 370 something (I am having scale problems).

I have been here at CC for about 18 months now, and have found the support, tools, and educational material to be excellent!!  But I have to say having a place to vent my frustrations has helped more than anything!!  This is an excellent place to find folk to listen.

As for some details about myself, hey i joined the group because i founded it).  I live just outside of Marion, Indiana on a small piece of ground that has been in my family for a few years.  My final goal is to have a market garden on part of the property, along with educating the public in the know how, and benefits of growing your own food.

Now don't be shy!!!  Who's next to intro themselves???

Hello Duke! I guess it's just you and me! I'm Ashley and I live on the southside of Indianapolis. I am 24 years old and I have been very blessed to have never been technically overweight, but I joined this site to help me lose a little weight and get healthy. You can be thin and horribly out of shape! The most important part of my life is my relationship with God. After Him, I have the most wonderful husband I could ever hope for. We've been married for a little over 5 years. We have two little girls who I work weekends for, so I can stay at home with them during the week. I'm a x-ray tech and have the great joy of radiating people!  Be nice to x-ray techs. We give mean patients an extra zap....Not really! I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, cooking, excercising, shopping, watching movies, bowling, doing puzzles, playing board games, etc.  Well, that's more than enough about me.

Who's next?

Hello!

1. History with weight loss: I've been overweight most of my life, since about age 11 (darn puberty!). I had always had a really hard time losing weight & a really easy time gaining. I can gain weight just by eating a "normal" healthy diet of veggies, fruits, and whole grains.

In August 2006, I was diagnosed with Insulin Resistance thus the reasoning for my weight struggles. I was put on Metformin to help my IR. I was able to lose 30lbs fairly quickly with the combination of eating a lower carbohydrate, sugar free diet (my body is extremely carbohydrate sensitive).

I went off of the Metformin last summer (for uncontrollable reasons) and was able to maintain the 30lb loss for a while, but it soon started to creep back on. I'm not an over eater & I don't normally like sweets, it was the combination of insulin overload in my body and the fact that my body hoards everything that I eat as fat.

As of the end of June I had gained the whole 30lbs back plus 13 more. I am down about 10lbs and looking forward to losing the rest no matter how long it takes!

2. History with Calorie Count: I joined calorie-count quite awhile ago. I am a very visual person, so I love to see my daily totals and watch the weight graph move.

3. Reason for joining this group: friendship, support and advice. =)

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: My name is Emily and I'm 24 years old. I have been married to my Hubby for 4 1/2 years. :) We don't have any children, just 2 kitties (Elliott and Tilly) who are my babies for now! ;) Born & raised in Indiana! I grew up in a small Northern Indiana town. I've lived in Southern Indiana (where Hubby is from) for a few years and now I'm here in Indianapolis. We moved here about 5 months ago. My husband works as a Security Officer at the Indianapolis Zoo and I work downtown at a coffee shop.

Well, I don't know what else to say...so, if you need more info, just ask! =D

Hello Everyone!

1. History with weight loss: Well, I was overweight as a child but was pretty thin and healthy in my 20's. I gained a lot of weight with my pregnancy 15 years ago, but lost it with lots of exercise and calorie counting. Then, about 5 years ago I started gaining. Now I am at least 60 lbs overweight. I have not been able to lose it over the past year, in fact I have gained about 6 lbs. GRRRR!

2. History with Calorie Count: Started about two months ago. Looking for help counting calories and support from the comunity.

3. Reason for joining this group: I'm kind of looking for a work-out buddy. I have a very demanding job and need someone to care about me. My husband is a bean-pole who smokes. He does not appreciate how hard it is for me.

4. Some interesting details about myself: I live downtown in a victorian. I have a dog, 2 cats and a gekko. I have a 40-50 hour a week job and a teenager.  I like to run, hike, bike, swim, dance, do yoga and lift wieghts.

I want to lose 60-65 lbs.

Hi everyone!!! I hope I am doing this right.  lol   well lets see, I have been here with CC for a short time but I have learned so much from a lot of nice people.  I am not doing well with my diet but I think I am still finding my way. I need help. I am hoping to find a support group to help educate and motivate me.

I live here in Indy on the southeast side. I have two grown children with 6 grandchildren, three step grandchildren.  I love them all very much. I am divorced now 12 years.  I have never had much of a weight problem till the marriage went bad.  I divorced and lost the few pounds I had gained.  I decided to get healthy and quit smoking and when I did, the weight came pouring on.  I learned 40 pounds later that my thyroid went bad, another 30 pounds later the doctors had it somewhat under control but my eating and daily habits were horrible.  CC has got me on the right track with what is good and bad to eat.  I had lost a total of 27 pounds when I tore some muscles in my shoulder and arms lifting weights.  so my exercise went out the window and I managed to gain several pounds back.  I just got the ok to start the treadmill again yesterday.  My eating habits are much better but my portion control is out of site.  I am always hungry.

oh gosh, I have rambled on and on...ummmm  I like scary movies, long walks, traveling, sculpting and a bunch of other stuff I will tell as time goes on....lol  now what do we do?  chat soon! ;)

Hello fellow Hoosiers!  I'm Cheryl.  I found cc about three weeks ago and am so excited about all that it has to offer, that I've shared it with several of my friends at work.  I've been overweight or "chubby" most of my life.  I've gained and lost, then gained and lost again so many times.  For some reason I think this is my time to get it right and keep it off.

I'm an emotional eater and over the last few years I've had some things to deal with.  And when I couldn't solve life's problems I turned to food.  I'm happy now, more than ever, with my life and especially with my new job - started on April 28.  And that seems to make all the difference in the world.  The problem is that I have so much to lose....109 pounds to be exact.  I've lost 17 pounds over the last 6 weeks and I don't have much patience.  A friend of mine had gastric bypass surgery last winter and has already lost 129 pounds.  That just doesn't seem fair!

I'm married for 20 years.  I have one son who just entered college, and two in high school.  We live on the northeast side of Indy.

1. History with weight loss:

I've been overweight since around the age of eight and I'm most definitely an over-eater. I've managed to lose a few pounds here or there but I always put them back on (and then some). I decided after going to an amusement park last year and being too fat to ride the rides that I just had to do something but it is a struggle.

2. History with Calorie Count:

I've been with CC for quite awhile now and I really appreciate the tools CC provides.

3. Reason for joining this group:

I figure it can't hurt to network with others trying to lose weight.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:

I'm a computer geek both in hobby and in trade. I have a wonderful wife, an amazingly bright daughter and two cats.

Hey Indy!

Cool idea, a local group, thats neat.

1) I have been overweight for all of my adult life. In October of 2006 I hit 278 pounds..I realized I either had to become an NFL lineman, or lose some weight.  Though I dont make as much as an NFL lineman I feel much better than I did then!

2) History with CC: I joined in early 2007, and desired to drop at least 50 pounds.  Hopeful to drop 78 and get to 200.  I am currently 220 and am fighting the resistance of 220...  58 down, and 20 to go!  WE CAN DO THIS!

3) Reason for joining:  Social Networking is cool isnt it?  And to share my successes and learn from those more successful than me!

4) Interesting things / About me: I am a branch manager for a financial services firm in Castleton.  I have a family, am an avid indycar fan, and love music.  I think this is where I am supposed to say I like walks on the beach too.  :)

Feel free to shoot me an email or a message to chat it out.

***UPDATE*** 12/09/2008 My new weight is 206 as of this morning!!!!

History with weight loss:

I'm actually not overweight, though I used to be.  My max was around 154 and I am currently 139 - I'd like to lose another ten to fifteen (probably closer to ten) of fat and build/tone some muscle.  When I was younger I played soccer and currently referee the sport.  My biggest problem has been junk food - candy, carbonated beverages, chips, and way too many pizzas.

History with Calorie Count:

I've been playing with the site for over a year now, using it on and off.  My biggest use has been the nutrition element; I really appreciate the simple A - F comparison scale.  I also lurk around in the forums to read what people have to say about which foods are "good" or "bad," look at prescribed exercise plans, and generally mess around with the tools CC has to offer.

Reason for joining this group:

I live in Carmel, on Indianapolis' north side, and frequent Indianapolis since I attend IUPUI.  I was wondering if anyone would be interested in working out together (I have a Gold's Gym membership, for example) or possibly meeting up for marathons or 5k's.

1. History with weight loss:Every diet you can imagin and some you can't  been heavy my whole life from cute chubby toddler to not so cute fat adult

2. History with Calorie Count: uhh 10 min maybe...

3. Reason for joining this group: Need to try something different so here I am :) would love some motivation and encouragement as I have a long way to go-

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:

Good evening Indy-ites

I have 150 pounds to lose.  I'm just starting so I'm sore, scared & hungry but I'm also really excited to be healthier.

I'm 26, I live on the Northwest side of Indianapolis and work in the life sciences industry...I've lived in Indiana since I was 17 and it has definitely become home.  I have a husband and a couple of dogs and I'm trying to include those things into my get-healthy regime... the dogs love all the extra walks!

I'm sure most of you are aware that the Colts season kicks off in two hours! Go Colts!

Hello Hoosiers ( Go Colts!!) My history with weight loss is an old tale, after each of my girls were born I kept the "baby" weight and never let go. I have been somewhat successful in the past with dieting but never to where I am in my "normal" weight range for my age/height.

I started using calorie count about 4 weeks ago (started on kids first day back to school, fresh start you know) I really have loved the grading system and getting an A or B feels good. I have recently braved the gym and am trying to make that a habit at least 2 X a week. (anyone at the Fishers Y ??)

I am recently married and have 3 girls (2 mine, 1 got in the deal with the new hubby). 12,9 and 7 so ... the "baby" weight is no longer an option as an excuse. I want to be healthy and not be ashamed to go out in public and do things with my girls.

I enjoy reading, cooking, and recently trying to not make a complete fool of myself on the golf course. I am 32 and live on the North side of Indy and have 80 more pounds to lose. Already down 14 since I started. Who knew wine had that many calories !! LOL

Hi Everyone!  Glad to see an Indy group on here.

My history with weight loss...I dont like diets and although I've followed a few, for the most part I'm an all or nothing gal.   I understand all about healthy eating and appreciate the benefits of a healthy diet...but I tend to either be on the wagon or off, for the past 20 years I'd say!   More on than off, but the older I get the more I realize that 'off' the healthy eating is not an option!

I joined calorie count at the beginning of the year, fresh start, etc.  I love the logs and use them daily.

I joined this group because I'm interested in talking to others about what works for them, new workouts, recipes, whatever!

Live in Mooresville, I am a 40 yr old happily married working mom of two beautiful girls.   I am a paralegal for a criminal defense atty.    I have two wonderful boston terriers, spend most of my evenings / weekends running the kids around to their sports / activities, try to get my walks/ runs/ workouts in and tend to spend a lot of time cleaning my car.   My husband and I show and race our cars as our hobby and it has become a true passion for me!

My history with weight loss started sometime in elementary school.  I have been overweight since the get-go.  I have tried every diet--both healthy and unhealthy--that you can possibly imagine. I joined calorie count in 2006 to lose weight, but instead I have gained over those two years--go figure!

In July of 2008, I qualified for gastric by-pass surgery.  It has been a great tool, but a lot harder than you would think.  Many people think this is the easy way out, but trust me, it isn't easy at all.  I have lost about 34 pounds since July and I have another 56 to lose.

Before you read about me, please note that I'm a bit depressed at the moment.

1. History with weight loss: I was thin all my life until I hit 36 (6 yrs ago) My weight has been creeping up ever since. I went from a happy 135 to a very, very miserable 175 - and I'm only 5'1". I saw a recent picture of myself, and my face looks like it's been stung repeatedly by jellyfish. People who knew me even 2 years ago, don't seem to recognize me when they see me again. It's depressing.

2. History with Calorie Count: I joined several months ago and lost 5 lbs. But that was when I just stopped working on my thesis. Then I pulled the thesis out, stopped CCing, and gained all the weight back.

3. Reason for joining this group: I don't know - discouraged and desperate, I guess. I don't know if anyone here will really be able to help me.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: Well, I have Cerebral Palsy and walk with a cane. Right now, I'm only averaging about 1 walk/wk at 1 mi. After about 3 walks, I have to buy new shoes. I won't swim, mostly bc it's too time-consuming, and my hair can't take the stress. Besides, I HATE exg in public - for obvious reasons. On the upside, I have a really supportive husband, and a fairly flexible schedule. I have a super-cool job teaching ESL, and - if I ever finish my thesis - an MA.

Hi everyone well here is my story.

1.  There definitely is a history with me and weight loss.  I was a skinny kid, but like most when I hit puberty I gained weight.  I think it was mainly lack of activity during school that added to my weight gain.  I went from 120 lbs to 160 back down to 130 the unhealthy way (diet pills and starvation).  Once I started eating again and off the diet pills which where full of ephedrin over the course of a few years I was almost 185 lbs.  Now I am back down to 145 the healthy way (diet and exercise).  The main reason I wanted to loose the weight was because of the fear of becoming like my father who passed away from heart disease and diabetes.

2.  I like using calorie count to figure out the calories of certain items that may not have the nutritional value on it like fruit and vegtables.

3.  I wanted to join this group to meet people in this area like me.  I moved from the Chicagland area about a year ago and have yet to make any friends here.

4.  I am 24, married with one cat and I just bought my first house about 6 months ago.  I live in Greenwood and moved from a southwest suburb of Chicago.  I am a purchasing agent on the east side for a major company.  My dad passed away almost 3 years ago from complications with diabetes (renal and heart failure) at the young age of 46.  I have made it my goal to have a lifestyle change not just a diet plan so that when my husband and I have a family they will never have to worry about their health or weight.

My name is Christina (KRIS) and I have two little ones. I lost my weight from my first in no time. I had my thyroid removed oct of 2006 and found out I was pregnant a week later. Since the unexpected pregnancy and not ever really getting my levels right I have tried in vain to lose the baby weight this time around. I have managed to keep it at a steady 180 but and starting to lost the battle.  I desperatly want to lose most of the weight by April due to wanting to join my local police force. I have passed my first test and am taking the physical in April. I am not unfit I just would like to lose the weight to better my odds. I try everything from only eating turkey I drink green tea everyday. I am not one for miracle diets so I am trying the old fashion way ( watching what I eat and exercise). I hope to find support to help make myself try. I really want to be a cop and I really don't want this extra weight any longer.

Hello Duke and everyone!  I just joined TODAY (11/3/08)!!

I was originally from Marion, moved to Indianapolis about 10 years ago following a divorce.  I have 4 grown kids and 4 grandkids.  I recently adopted 2 kittens from a local shelter, and they are proving to be good company for me.

Basically, I eat because I am alone all the time.  Other than co-workers I don't really know people here in Indy, and my kids all live up north.  I spend WAY too much time in front of the tv with the laptop on my lap playing computer games...need to get out and walk.  When I started a walking regimen about 6 years ago, I lost 50 lb.  Since that time I have gained just about all back and am feeling pretty depressed that I allowed myself to do that. I hope this site and this group will provide some much-needed motivation.  I am getting old and feeling weak and need to lose over 100 lb.  Sigh...   Here's to new beginnings!

1.  I was skinny in my younger years, but at age 40 decided I needed to quit smoking.  40+ pounds later, it is time to gain control over this demon like I did that one.

2.  I have used CC for about a year.  I like the viusal aid it provides me and the accountability to write it down.

3.  I used a group similar to this to successfully quit smoking.  I believe if you do this with others that understand what you are going through you can succeed.

4.  I am happily married to my husband and have been for 27 years.  We have a dog and 3 cats.  I grew up in Indianapolis, but have finally landed in Mooresville.  My hubby is semi retired and type 2 diabetic, so I am hoping my travels into good eating and exercise will rub off on him.

Lets to this together!!

Hi! =)  I'm Jessica.  I never had a problem with my weight until recently.  I blissfully spent most of my life at a perfect 110lbs for my 5'3" frame.  About 4 years ago I started gradually gaining weight but didnt really notice it until the fateful night I stepped onto the scale at my ex-boyfriends moms house... I didnt know I'd gained 20 pounds...?  where?! when?!  How did THIS happen?!  So I started feeling a little more self conscious but didnt really do anything to change the situation.  I just wore baggy clothes and stopped going into public places....  Then came the biggy... I was pregnant.  I was... shocked... to put it nicely.  The moment I found out I was pregnant I was immedately worried about my weight.  I developed a diabetic condition that helped me control my weight during the course of my pregnancy but even after having my beautiful baby boy I was 20 pounds above my previous weight.  I just turned 30 and I am in NO way done living my life to the fullest.  This extra weight has kept me off the beach for far too long.  I began working out and came across ths wonderful site which is making me painfully aware of what I'm putting into my body.  I also find that logging everything (activities, weight and foods) keeps me honest about those Oreos I think about sneaking in at midnight.  I work as an accountant, which is stressful, but I literally sit at a desk all day long... adding to my weight issue.  I have three beautiful boys and live right downtown Indianapolis at the moment but that will be changing pretty soon.  I would like to lose 40 pounds but if i lose just 13 I will be in the "ideal weight" category so I will see how I look to determine if I am gong to continue.  I am aware that this is a lifestyle change... I am not resistant to change just resistant to giving up my cupcakes - haha!!  I wasnt going to post but I could always use opinions, suggestions, and of course, support.

Well theres a bit about me and hopefully soon there will be alot less of me =P

lata

Jess
