I am 43 years old, happily married to my wonderful DH Ron who is active duty military (a pilot) ... just returned from his 4th tour to Iraq and waiting for tour #5 in the spring. We live in California with a house-full of rescued kitty cats. I am currently a happy housewife and am in training to start a part time job as a Field Inspector for insurance underwriting.

Hi, Molly. I'd like to hug both you and your husband to tell you Thanks for all that you do for us. When one person is in the military, the whole family is in the military, and we couldn't get along without people like you.
I will check out your countdown--I'm still learning my way around this website.

Welcome! We would love get to know you, so please tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hello, Duke. I read your profile--you've come a long way baby. Your profile pretty well answers the "get acquainted" questions. How about telling us why you are moderating this group?
Hello all, I'm Betsy. I see that my CC hero is part of this group as well. I am in awe of several members who have lost so much.
I have been chubby all of my life with brief spurts of "normal" thrown in in college. I really packed on the pounds, though, in 1998 when I stopped smoking. Before I had substituted anything besides food for the cigs my father passed away suddenly. I have spiralled out of control since then. I have many things working against me and I don't want to be a statistic! I am over 40 and have the belly fat that everyone says is the killer. So far it has not effected my health much - I think that since high blood pressure runs in the family I can't blame that on the weight.
I found CC last fall before Thanksgiving when looking for a particular items' calorie count. In the past I have lost by counting so figured that I could do it again. I had already lost when I joined but still have MANY pounds to go. My motivation is my 2 year old - I want to be around to see him grow up. With 100+ lbs still to go I need all the support that I can get and this seems like the PERFECT place to get it.
In addition to the 2 year old I have 5 (yes, you read correctly) cats. We are in the process of buying a new house and are sort of living out of 2 right now. Was great weight loss when I first started packing and moving boxes but my body is used to it now. That, I went back to eating fast foods as I didn't have time to get everything done and cook. I am hopefully back on track and focused. I love to cook and have been converting recipes that I like since the first of the year to be not only low cal but heart healthy as well.
Greetings!![]()
1. History with weight loss:
I have had issues with weight since Jr. High. I am now 46.
2. History with Calorie Count:
I joined in July 08 after researching calories for various foods.
3. Reason for joining this group:
I've never used forums before, but I want to do things the right way this time. I want to live a healthy permanent lifestyle, not relying upon quick fixes, and I find this site to be very motivating. Since I am 5'7 and currently weighing 242 (12 lb loss,) I still have 99 lbs to go. Since I wear size 16-18, to some, it's hard to believe that I am carrying so much extra weight, but I am, and I plan to rectify that ASAP
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I am a manager in NY, married 15 years to a supportive husband (who incidentally is a physically-built chef, ) and we have a beautiful 9 year-old daughter.
I love to do charity work through my church, and as of late, I love to walk. Today I walked over 12,000 steps at lunchtime! I am pleased with that, and motivated to do more.
I look forward to going the distance with the help of this site and the encouragement of this group!
Have a fabulous day because you all are worth it!

Hi, Betsy. Nice to meet you. That must be your 2 y.o. in your profile photo--what a cutie! Fast food did me in, too. I have to stay away from it. I allow myself Subway or Taco Bell occasionally, but that's it. I'm glad you are in our group!

Hi, Melinda...nice to meet you. I like the forum concept very much. I spent 2 years finishing up my BS in Business Management through the University of Phoenix Online. Each class was like a forum, where you quickly learned about everyone in the class then got to work. I guess that's why I feel like greeting everyone that joins our group.
Great job with the walking!
HI Mamarose-
Yeah, I'm learning new software so it should get more interesting soon at work.
My Fiance works for a company called 4kids, they have a Saturday morning marathon of cartoons. My fiance works on storyboards for TMNT. and he does the avatars on the company website. He also designs and creates some of the games.

Well I'm here because I've come a long way, but I still have about 100 pounds to lose. Some of it fat, some of it skin. But at 375, I still have the major weight to lose.
I'm also here to show folk that it's never too late to get the weight off no matter what condition a person finds themselves in. I was 45, 650+ pounds, and as dead as I could be while still breathing.
Now, after many months of hard work, I feel soooo much better. I am back in the world meeting new people, and doing new things.
Anyone can get the weight off. it's just a matter of developing a good plan, then sticking to that plan.!!
Original Post by mamarose:Hi, Jen. Well, you've already been an encouragement to me! I thought I was too fat to run! I wll give it a try.
Mamarose -
I thought I was too fat also. In spite of my weight, I've always been pretty healthy - no heart, blood pressure, insulin or joint problems - so it was pretty easy (astonishingly easy, actually) to get started. Of course the normal "check with your doctor before starting an excercise program" disclaimer applies but it has truly been the best way for me to ease into running.
Let me know if you try it!
Jen
Hello Everyone,
My name is Vanessa and I've struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. I've tried Weight Watchers for a while but I can't afford the monthly payments anymore. I managed to lose about 16 pounds last year but have since gained it back. My goal weight loss is 130 pounds.
I just joined Calorie Count yesterday, so I'm still learning the ropes and familiarizing myself with the website. Hopefully it will be a great tool to reach my goal. I joined this group because I've never joined a group of forum like this before. I am eager to try anything to help me stay motivated and focused.
I'm getting married next fall and I would love to look the best that I can on my wedding day. I look forward to reading other's experiences and helping each other.
Hi .. my name is Joanne, I am soon to be 50...happily married to a loving dutch boy..he is younger then me...for 14 years..one son soon to be a teenage this coming Nov..I am living in the rural boonies of northern canada..the internet..has opened the world to me..and a world of knowledge..
My story is a long one..I have PCOD, and back when I was first diagnosied with it treatment was not offered..I stated gaining weight when my teenage years hit..stuggled with it all my life..but remained active..and healthy until..I got pregnant..at the age of 35..during my pregnancy, I develop central sleep apneas..and was left undiagnosied for over nine years..until one day I ended up in icu..near dead..my doctor was a wonderful person..and someone finally listened to me..about what I was saying all those years..about a lack of energy, falling asleep everywhere..sleeping 18 hours out of 24...that period of 9 years..I gained over 100 pds..it was like I woke up and didnt know who I was..
I started bipap treatment..which gave me a new lease on life..and have been modifying and changing my lifestyle habits slowly over the last 2 and 1/2 years..
Before I got married..I had finally figured out I was burying an abused little child in me that hid behind the weight..so no one would look at her body..I was sucessfully loosing weight..and had lost close to 80 pds..I married stayed stable with my weight lose..and 7 months later found out I was pregnant for the first time..at the age of 35...I went back to my own weight after the baby was born..but could not stay awake more then 3 hours....I had worked it all out..and then lost my health..which set me back..big time..but since I got out from icu..I felt I had a new lease on life..and have been determined..go find my way to the women that fell asleep..
I have been maintaining a healthy diet..since August 1st..and found this site by googling 300 calorie..recipes..so I could make and prepare meals to freeze..when I feel well with standing and preparing it...for the days..when i dont feel well..found some great recipes by the way!
about me..I enjoy digital graphic, scrapbooking designing..reading, writing, and dancing..something I plan on doing lots of ..as the weight goes away...as well as wearing pretty dresses..instead of the freedom to grow clothes..that fits..my size..hubby is going to have to get a better job..for all the clothes I want..
he is nervous more then me about me loosing weight..and has to deal with fears as well around it..which I do my best to help him with..it took over a week...to get him to stop bringing me home junk food..and start bring me home tomotoes...and he offers me more food now..then he ever did..whats up with that..I wonder..smiles..I am helping him with that and he is doing great..and his insecurities are getting less..as he adjust to it..
even my poor dog had a hard time getting used to it..as he always got a good portion of what was on my plate..lol...he likes salad now..smiles..
it took me two years to get my heavy duty treadmill..and I started with that today..and hey..I did two minutes instead of the one minute I thought was all I would be able to do..and my plan is 6 times a day...for a week..and then up one minute for 6 times a day..it will be a long rehab..but you have to start somewhere..and I am sure there are days..when I am not going to feel confident..or sure and maybe even fall off the wagon..but am trying to prepare myself to be encouraged to get back on that wagon...by joining here..
nice to meet everyone...and please bare with me..as it takes me longer to remember peoples names etc..kind regards, Joanne

I am very involved in my church, too. I will be leading a Financial Peace University class there, starting in a few weeks. I've done a pretty good job at dumping debt, so now I'm ready to dump some pounds!Shalom.
I just love Dave Ramsey (Financial Peace University) and also Crown Ministries (www.Crown.org) for ideas about getting out of debt! At one time or another, our church did both.

Hi, Molly.
My DH and I did the Financial Peace University (Dave Ramsey) program earlier this year. It is amazing! It is what gave me the confidence to start counting calories. I figure if I can make a financial budget and stick to it, I can make a calorie budget and stick to it! Dumping debt and dumping fat appear to very similar!
Hi. I just found this website today and thought I would check it out.
I weighed 100 lbs when I graduated from high school. In my early 20's, I went to one of those weight loss centers where you have a proscribed diet and have to check in every day. I weighed 116 lbs. I must have been crazy!
Anyway, that started my search for the quick fix and I didn't even need fixing. My weight fluctuated between 120 lbs. to 155 lbs. I really started gaining weight after my Dad died 14 years ago. All I wanted to do was sleep, but I couldn't sleep all the time - so I ate. Here I am all 5'2'' 225 pounds, and I need to lose it.
I found CC today when I was looking for ideas about nutritious lunches to pack for my 8 year old. My oldest daughter is very thin, but the 8 year old is chunky. I want for all of us to develop healthier eating habits. My husband needs to drop a few pounds to.
I'm married and have two daughters. I teach at the junior high. We have two dogs, a few barn cats, six horses and a couple of donkeys. I show horses and enjoy photography.
Greetings from Moorpark, California (just over the hill from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library). My name is Norma Jean (two words) and am 54 years old.
1. History with weight loss: I have been a yo-yo dieter since Age 21. Every time I lose weight I gain ten more back. I am 5'11" and I do carry my weight well to a certain extent. Last year, in June, I decided I was going to have weight loss surgery (my doctor feels this is the only way for me to get weight off). Because of the insurance, I had to be monitored basically for 6 months by a nutritionist. Unfortunately, as I started to lose weight my knees and muscles started giving out on me. Long story, by January 2008 I had lost 66 pounds but I had to change medications and I have put not only that weight back on but much more. I am back to square one now that medication has once again been changed and am now after a year just starting to be able to walk with a walker a small distance.
2. History with Calorie Count: I started logging my foods on August 11th. It has helped me see how much I consume and the caloric content. It has helped me reexamine what and how much I eat. I love the tools and learning my way around the various sites. I also love encouraging people and helping them see the best in situations.
3. Reason for joining this group: For encouragement and meeting new people.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I have beautiful blue eyes - nickname 'ol blue eyes or "Marilyn". I am a Born Again Christian (1975) - no specific affiliation to a "church". I have a sense of humor and love having fun. Excellent organizational & phone skills, self-starter, reliable, dependable, positive work ethic - oh wait this isn't for a job application! Yes, I am unemployed at this time. Unfortunately because of the mortgage business I was laid off 3 times within 18 months because the businesses filed bankruptcy or closed their doors for processing loans. I have not worked since March 2007 - and miss it! With my health issues (see New Beginning - New Members Forum - August 11th) I am starting over physically, mentally and recognizing spiritually. I have 2 children (actually one is my husband of 22 years and a son 20 years old - I just sometimes cannot tell them apart they are so alike - best buddies!). I have 2 Shi Tzus - Babe and Butters - both brothers from the same litter 4 years old. They are such a joy! My interests are still trying to figure that out! I like surfing the computer - playing games especially scrabble or word games. I played softball until age 36 when my knees finally gave out. I started at 2nd base and moved to 3rd because of my throwing arm. I had a nice batting average too! I like playing Volleyball. I do read - love crime stories. Just starting to maybe add painting as a hobby. Working on a couple of ocean scenes paint by numbers.
Hola Duke!
WOW!!! That's a great accomplishment! YOU ROCK!!!
Wishing you well my friend!!!![]()

Hello Everyone,
I just found this board this morning and have been surfing around off and on all day today.
1. History with weight loss:
My history with weight loss had been up and down for much of my childhood into my teens. As a young adult, I began steadily gaining weight after my marriage. (Was pretty unhappy.) He was a very nice man, marriage just wasn't for me. I continued to gain until I hit 200 lbs. At that point I got pregnant and my weight skyrocketed even more. After the birth of my son I began teater tottering again, but soon everything just came to a stand still. I stopped seeing results when I tried dieting and exercising. I would get so discouraged. Everything I did to lose weight wasn't taking any weight off. After a couple of years of trying I just gave up. I began accepting that I was overwieght and needed to love myself regardless of how much I hated the fat. I went through years of learning to love myself. After I had achieved that...I was still fat. I just learned to love the fat too. When I was about 28, I was diagnosed with celiac sprue. I had atypical symptoms of being overweight. The disease was actually keeping the fat on my body then what it typically does to people, which is make them bone skinny. Celiac sprue is an intollerance to wheat, so I was so excited to think that all I had to do was stop eating wheat and anything with gluten and I'd lose weight. I also have hypothyroid and polycistic ovarion syndrom so my metabolism was next to nothing. I remember emailing a doctor specializing in celiac sprue. I told him of my difficulty losing weight. He told me that he had other clients who had celiac sprue who also had hypothyroidism and that those clients would never lose weight. He wasn't exactly sure of why they couldn't lose weight. But, as stubborn as I can be sometimes, became very annoyed with him. I emailed him back and said, "Come hell or high water, I will lose this weight." In the long run I only became more discouraged. Time went on and I maintained my weight until I was 40 last year. I had a very difficult time turning 40 and decided to look back on the goals that I've achieved in my life so far. I've accomplished all of them exept for the weightloss goal, (that I've had since childhood) and my fitness goals. I decided to try it again. I first went to a website for celiac sprue and found out that now heavy people with celiac sprue are now losing weight. I wasn't losing weight because our main staple of corn and rice was turning to sugars. Once I started managing the simple carbs better, I began losing a little weight. Then I questioned whether I was lactose inollerance too. I stopped eating dairy, watched the simple carbs and started a weight loss program and to my delight had lost 25 lbs.
2. History with Calorie Count:
I used to count calories growing up. Most of my family was overweight and my mom taught us how to count calories, which was good, but I got so tired of it. I told myself that I can lose it without counting the calories. I CAN'T...I need to count the calories. Its that simple.
3. Reason for joining this group:
I had joined an online health program this past spring. I lost 25 lbs. My membership ended and I didn't want to have to continue paying such a high cost. I thought that there has to be a cheaper way to lose weight. Then I started searching the internet and found this site.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
Well, I'm 40 years old. I have a very handsome 15 year old son. I divorced 7 years ago and have never been so happy and content with myself. I'm not in a relationship at this time and am actually choosing not to be in one until my son is completely raised. I'm wanting him to have as much stability in his life as he possibly can. I don't believe in bringing partners in and out of his life. I have been a counselor for a counseling agency for 4 years, and currently I've been a social worker for a pyschiatric hospital for 3 years. I'm wanting to be a counselor again someday, but surprisingly enough I'm making more money what I'm doing now then if I was a counselor. So, I'll stay put at least until my son graduates from high school. I have two cats, and I love gardening, kayaking, hiking, bicycling, trail running, and would like to get back into woodworking.
Well, that's enough about me. Glad to have found this site. I'm looking forward to continuing success through the help of all you wonderful people.
Thanks,
Rainz
First of all...HELLO EVERYONE!
I had attempted using a calorie counter in the past, but fell out of it. Hopefully I can stick to this, this time...I suppose we will see!
My name is Megan and I live outside of Milwaukee, WI. Like others in this group I have been overweight my entire life. I've done many different things, but of course never stuck to it.
Starting in January I joined a gym, went 3-5 times a week for 3 months and then work got in the way of that routine. My plan is to get back into that and do some form exercise every day, because I certainly feel better when I do!
I joined this group because I think that like most people the hardest part of staying on track is motivation. There will always be bad days, or reasons to "fall off the wagon", but I think it's just as important to keep on trying. So, I'm definitely looking to meet some people with similar goals and keep in touch with progress and ideas. This past week I celebrated my birthday (so I had many cheat days), but at the end of July I started eating more fruits and vegetables and cutting carbs and caffine from my diet...pretty simple in theory but always a challenge!
A little more info about me. I graduated from college in 2006, and as of next week I am pursing my MBA, with hopes to finish that in 2011. I work a full time office job and tend to work 50-60 hours a week. In addition to that I work a few days a week with children who have Autism, and I wouldn't trade that for anything. On occasion I will also dog sit or babysit for friends. (I tend to keep VERY busy)
I have a little bichon whom I love, and is a great motivator for walks
. I LOVE music--all types, theatre, movies, spending time with my friends, dancing, laughing, being a spectator to baseball (go Brewers!), shopping, reading, and many other things...I'll try anything at least once!
I'm excited to see how this works, and to reach my initial goals.
Hello everybody!
1. My history with weight loss isn't much, I've been involved with our company's biggest loser competition, we all put in money to join and then if you gain weight from one weigh in to the next, you pay a penalty. While its kind of fun, I usually end up back at my starting weight. My wife tries too, but we both kind of fall off the wagon after a couple weeks. I didn't start out overweight (how many of us do? ;p) but was actually really skinny until the end of grade school-my parents divorced and I started putting on weight. I don't know why, because I don't eat to feel better - I'm not sure what happened. My sister has always been skinny and still is, so who knows. But even though I was overweight, I was still moderatly active. Not anymore.
I'm on my work computer, so I'll have to come back and finish this later! But so far, nice to meet you all!
