And now just go ahead and make that first post!
history: when i was 13 I moved to the US from Spain. (father was military) I fell into a severe depression and ate my way to fat. then i burned it off playing HS tennis. i was never thin after that, but not really fat, mostly athletic or a little chubby. it was only after i started having kids that i seemed to pack on the pounds.
calorie count: i started with calorie count when i was surfing the web looking for the calories in something. i had just started logging my foods in a notebook after i got back from mexico. mexico had wonderfully started a 'cleanse' that had made me drop a couple of pounds! ha! well, my hot neighbor noticed... so i decided to continue the trend.
i joined this group cause i live in charlotte! seemed logical...
i speak spanish, in dec i will be married 10 years to an incredible man and have two children 10 & 7 1/2. i teach CPR at the harris ymca. previously, i taught saturday gymnastics there as well. this year, i will be teaching preschool at st. john's episcopal church. i live in south charlotte near the arboretum.
that's my first post! :-)
Hi girls! I have actually been with cc since I think March and belong to the 45-50 age group that are a great bunch of ladies. I just happened to see the N.C. forum. I am from Asheville. Are you familiar with the mountains at all? Anyway I started out at 170 lbs I am 5'51/2. I began Nutrisystem and stayed on that for only 3 months so then continued on my own with cc and so far so good I am pretty much at what I thought was going to be goal weight. I stay between 130-135 but can't seem to rid myself of the belly fat!! I am divorced and have 5 "cat" children. Yes 5! I am currently unemployed due to an elderly parent (my Mom) she has had breast cancer twice but is doing very well at this time and is cancer free. She is 81. Just had cataract surgery so it's nearly impossible to work and do all the doctors etc. ok thats enough info on myself for now but I am looking forward to getting to know you and share all our UPS and hopefully DOWNS together. I hope you all will check out the other forum I was talking about...we have a great time on that one. You definitely need a sense of humor though! Have a great afternoon! Connie
History: I gained weight with my pregnancies. I have tried diets for several years and lost and gained until I jeopardized my health. I lost 60 pounds in 6 months on 500 calories a day. You don't want to do that. I gained it all back, plus. Finally 2 1/2 years ago I started losing weight and lost 85 pounds. I still have a lot of weight to lose. I am at a standstill and can't seem to lose. I have not given up though. I can only eat between 1150 to 1200 calories to lose weight. I gain if I eat more than that.
Calorie Count: I started with calorie count a year or two ago when I was looking for a site that had restaurants listed with nutrients; but, did not do anything but keep track of calories and weight.
I joined this group because I live in Conover, NC. I thought it would be nice to chat with other people who are trying to lose weight.
I am retired and have been for almost 3 years. I am married and have been for 46 years, soon to be 47. I enjoy my 10 grandchildren and great grandson, reading, playing games on computer, being with my husband and cooking.

Hello! Glad to meet you ladies.
1) I struggled with thyroid disease for a number of years; first hyper so I was overly-thin and then hypo after surgery to remove the thyroid. Unfortunately, that caused some weight complications because my metabolism went "into shock" from the rapid transition. I gained nearly 40 pounds within 3 years (went from 120 - 160). Several years ago, I was able to dip below 140 by controlling calories but leveled off no matter how hard I tried, and I learned that severely restricting my intake back-fired. So last year I began a workout regimen (at home) and have reached my goal/maintenance weight (128). I've been maintaining for nearly 3 months. I'll always have to be careful about my food choices and remain dedicated to my exercise routine - I've had to accept that grudgingly. ![]()
2) I've been doing calorie count for a few years at the recommendation of my endocrinologist. When I went to him miserable over the weight gain, he said one of the best tools he'd ever seen for weight loss was tracking calories and nutrition. He was right! It definitely keeps me honest. LOL
3) I live in Charlotte.
4) I work for one of the local big banks as a Project Manager. I'm attending college online, since my original degree was completely unrelated to the job I ended up doing.
Life is funny that way! I have 2 children; 14 and 3 and a 2-year-old part Russian Blue kitty boy. (He likes to lay on my Step during interval workouts. LOL) Other than that I'm pretty eccentric... Love collecting Betty Boop, nickname my cars, and I love action movies. ![]()
Hi everyone-I'm Chrissy!
1) I was overweight all through high school, but didnt know it. When I started working at 17, the weight just dropped off. I kept the weight off until I got married, at which point my thyroid troubles began (or so the Dr. is telling me). I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism 2 1/2 months ago. I'm just trying to get through each day without looking at my husband or dog & seeing a turkey! My downfall is blended coffee drinks and macaroni & cheese. As of today im at 162. I hope to be down to 140 or so by Aug. of next year.
2. I've been a member of CC since last year about this time.
3. I live in the Lake Norman area of NC.
4. I was recently hired at Target. I havent yet started though-I hope to start later this week. I'm married & have no children, however I have a step-daughter who lives in WI and an almost 5 year old beagle named Cooper. My husband & I have been on all 3 of the Panther Fan Cruised & hope to go to Disney with them in Feb. 2009.

Hello. I am Linda, age 57, and currently about 30 pounds overweight. I live in Rowan county, but grew up and lived in Charlotte for over 40 years.
I am hoping to find friends to correspond with that will inspire me to keep doing this calorie counter thing and to keep active. Also maybe I can inspire them.
I've been doing the food log on Calorie Counter now faithfully for 3 days. It it fairly easy. I've done all sorts of diets over the years. After my first baby was born in 1971, I went to Weight Watchers in Charlotte. Many times after that I went again plus went to various other weight loss places and gyms.
I have wasted so much money in the past in my attempts to lose weight. My latest squander was $60 for a starter kit for Alli pills. What a waste! I've decided that I will not spend any more money on weight loss. Buying the proper groceries shouldn't cost anymore money then buying improper groceries. Exercise can be free. It doesn't cost anything to go for a walk or ride my bike.
That's what I like about Calorie Counter - It is free! I believe I can do this. I know, I've done it so many times before. The trick is getting motivated and then staying motivated. Once I can start wearing clothes that I've not worn in awhile, I will get more inspired.
Well, I'm rambling on now, so I'll close for now. Thanks for letting me join this group.
Linda
hi ladies! welcome to Charlotte & Surrounding Areas! :-) I hope you find CC as helpful as I have been finding it! (I love that it is free too! :-) I do a check in every friday.... i suggest you find your weight group and do a weekly check in there! it really seems to help me.
also, you can always send me messages! :-) g
Hello. I am new to this site and this is my very first post. I live in beautiful Hendersonville, NC.
I have been overweight since I was 20 years old. My heaviest weight was 270lbs which was only two years ago. I am currently 184lbs and would like to lose another 34lbs. I am 5'8 and wear a size 12. I started calorie counting and exercising right after the death of my beloved grandfather back in January 2007. So far I've been able to do this on my own but am finding it more difficult to do so without a support group.
I am a 33 year old stay at home mom of a 4 year old. Some of my hobbies are hiking in the forest with my family, fishing, scrapbooking (when I can find the time), and (believe it or not) exercising. We have one dog Winston who is part Rhodesian Ridgeback and part English Setter and three cats.
I am excited to be a part of this group and to be able to speak with others in nearby cities.
Hi & welcome. I joined yesterday. Hendersonville is a very pretty place to live.
I hope you will do well on Calorie Count. I like it. I haven't had a second weigh-in yet. I'm waiting until Saturday. I hope I'm not disappointed.
Linda
Hi, I'm Karen, and I just joined CC through a Nest Baby group. I thought it would be helpful if I tried to find a local group too. I'm trying to lose my pregnancy weight (had my baby boy in May), and then some. I live over by the Arboretum(I think we might be neighbors, genea), and work part time and stay home the rest of the time with my son. I was doing LA Weightloss pre-pregnancy and did really well with it, but it's just not working as well this time. I'm hoping this group can give me a little more motivation!
Hi Ladies,
Lets see, always struggled w/weight. I've been very thin and very heavy... currently weighing in at 181 and 5'7" - need to drop at least 30 Lbs.
I joined CC about a year and a half ago, found it while searching for nutritional information as well. Did quite well then got out of the habit. Been back on for about 2 months and I'm down about 9 Lbs since then. This site is the absolute best, easy, affordable adds motivation and a measure of accountability that I find imperative to my efforts.
I'm 43 w/a 25 year old daughter and a 5 year old granddaughter that I WORSHIP! My daughter swears her mother has been abducted and I'm some pod person - whatever. I am currently a paralegal for a large bank in downtown but that could change at any moment! need I say more.
I also live down the block from the arboretum.
Hello,
I have struggle with my weight since I was a teenager...well, as a teen I thought I was fat but I was 140lbs in HS and I would give my left arm to be that weight again...Little did I know then, right?! I guess my real weight problem started when I was around 20-21 when I gained weight until I weighed 260 lbs. I lost 60lbs a few years later and kept that off for 4 years. Now, I am 35 years old and a single mom and I weigh 260lbs, again.
I signed up for CC a few months ago but I just started reading the postings today.
I am joining this group because I would like to find a few women in my same situation that can share tips and restaurant info and give encouragement to each other.
As I said I am a 35 year old single mom of a 4 month old and I need to get in shape to keep up with my son when he finally gets mobile. I certainly dont want to be known as the "fat mom" and I want to be active to be able to go hiking and play sports with him.
Any one else in the Pineville area that would perhaps want to meet up at the Rec Center and exercise?
Hello everyone, my name is Tammy. I found this sight when i was searching the web to find out more about calories and losing weight. I am the heaviest i have ever been. (233lbs.)I am a very emotional eater. I lost my grandmother in February of this year and have suffered alot of depression due to her loss. She was my everything. I am married with two boys age 16 and 22. I am the only one in my house who is overweight, therefore i get no support whatsoever. I am hoping to meet new people that could encourage me on my weight loss journey and that i could inspire as well. I just joined today and am going to start my counting and exercising first thing monday morning. Wish me luck and if you would like to make a new friend just send me a message.
Hi everyone! I'm Michelle, I work in Downtown Charlotte and workout at the Childress Klein YMCA. I've been on calorie count for a little over 1 year. I've lost nearly 50 pounds and unfortunately stalled!
I have YO-YO'd weight my entire life. The smallest I've ever been is 135 lbs. The heaviest is 225 (during pregnancy). When I started watching my weight (this time) I was around 210. I am currently at 160, but have fallen to 157 within the past few months. I stand 5'7 and am 33 years old.
I'm one of the few people who can gain 5-7 pounds in one weekend and spend all week trying to get it back off!!
I everyone. I have been overweight for along time, just because I ate whatever and did not exercise. An going to turn 60 -UGH this year and didn't want to be 60 and fat. So I started WW and lost 30 lbs. Started exercising in hopes it would help, but not so much. I am struggling to find a balance between my calorie intake and my excerise. Everyone keeps telling me I am not eating enough.
I travel for work, so eat in restaurants alot and that doesn't help. I am home mostly on weekends, but try to work out in hotels.
1. I have never been extremely skinny. I have always been athletic and have had an athletic build. I competed in division 1 track and field but after that ended I attempted to keep eating how I had in college. I am not used to diets do to the high volume of exercise I was used to doing. The problem now is I work 14 hours a day (not a lot of time to work out) and I still try to eat like a college kid! I would like to lose 50lbs although that would out me at my high school weight. I am not sure what weight I should be at but I guess I will find out when I get there!
2. I just joined because I was looking for a calorie counter and food log. I have really enjoyed that so now I am looking at what else the site has to offer.
3. It's always nice to have support, especially support from those in the same area.
4. I am in a relationship that's been going strong for 2 years. I work as a courier as well as for a logistics firm. Work pretty much consumes my life and weekends are used for sleeping and taking mental vacations.
Hi everyone I am Samantha. I live in Mooresville, the lake norman area. I grew up in Union county. I wasn't overweight for most of my childhood, it was after I had my first son I gained weight then walked it off. 80lbs.! Then I had my other son and gained weight again this time I have two torn acl ligaments in my knees so walking aint happening. So I have to find another way that works for me to lose weight. I am currently 241 lbs. I have 100 lbs. to lose. The word diet puts me on an eat everything mode. So I am trying to change my eating habits for now to take off this weight. I am an emotional eater and I don't realize it until after I have ate the whole bag of m&m's. My husband is very supportive so are my two boys, Dakota, and Darren. I have two dogs that I love like children, and one cat that is very independent. I am a stay at home mom. I home school my youngest son who is 8. My husband and children are fit but I am not. We love the outdoors, camping, biking, boating, fourwheelers and dirtbikes. But I am a prisoner of fat around me. It restricts my movement and makes me feel ashamed of myself for letting it get this far. I am happy with my life but unhappy with how I feel.
This is my first time ever joining a group online! I am looking forward to talking with you and sharing ideas.
Samantha
