Hi everyone!
No one has posted anything here, so I guess I'll start. I joined in November of 2006 at around 175 pounds. I had reached my highest weight of about 190 a few months earlier.
I used the tools and slowly changed my habits, incorporating more and more fitness into my daily life (you can read more details in my profile and journal). Today, I weigh 145 and am in the best shape of my life at 42.
I live in San Jose and work in Sunnyvale in the software industry.
I'm planning on running the Rock and Roll Half Marathon on October 5 in San Jose. If any of you want to join me, it would be a blast!
How come nobody posts anything? We're all too busy living the Silicon Valley life! My name's Jan and I'm 49, same hubby for 28 years, 2 teenage boys who are crazy, and one big fat Mamma. I'm ready to change that, I stumbled onto this group and think it's fantastic. I've done weight watchers a lot, but for the past year have converted to counting calories and I prefer it. We live near Great America and next door to Rivermark. Don't know what else to say but I sure love this site, the calorie counter and record keeper are really fantastic!
Hi stargazser,
Welcome! You'll find the community features of this site fantastic as well. There are a lot of great people here who are very motivating and helpful.
Good luck with reaching your goals!

Good Morning how is everyone today? I am Karri 29 years old and joined Calorie Count Plus a few months back. I joined at my heavist in my life @ 222 and I am already down to 209. I was too strickt the past month so i did end up gaining a few lbs back after i lost some but I am back in full swing. Sometimes life just takes over and you don't have that option of stress to just STOP so you won't gain that stress weight. I am full swing like I said and plan to be to my goal for NOW in November right before my 30th b-day bash. I work full time as a Software Sales Rep and I love my job. I have a sister with 4 almost 5 kids and happly married for 10 years now. I have a brother as well with 3 kids and he has been married for 5 years now. My parents still married and see almost 2-3 times a week. I am a fun and outgoing girl and love to just laugh at the things life has thrown us. So thanks for making this group and I do hope to meet a few new great people that we can motivate each other. ![]()
Ksylvan,
How did you do at the San Jose Rock and Roll Half Marathon last October? My friend/co-worker ran it and I was there to cheer him on.
It was such an energetic and inspiring event.
I am also a runner and my goal is to run half marathon by summer of 2009, when I can start training in February.
Hi Everyone!
I'm 23, but I've had fluctuating weight throughout my teen years until now. I've been both extremes of emotional eating, but I can safely say I'm mildly overweight. I wanted to educate myself about good eating habits and make a change last January. Since joining, I've lost 15 pounds, gained 5 (hopefully in muscle from riding my bike 12 miles just about every day) lost track with my eating, gained 5 more pounds back, and here I am today feeling slightly beaten down...but hoping to lose more weight!
Calorie Count has become a much easier tool to use than anything else I've found, especially with access from my blackberry-but its the *motivation* part that I've had issues with. I mean, come on-we live in an area SO diverse with just about every culinary genre available...who wants to live life consulting a website before each meal? Aside from that, I need to train myself to eat proper proportions, and to be more active.
I'm working as a receptionist for a scientific consulting company, training to be a research assistant. I know it sounds like a total snoozer, but in an economy such as this-we take what works, right? :) I love shopping, riding my bike, dancing, music, baking (which sometimes gets me in trouble) and the beach.
I'm hoping to tone up, avoid being another type 2 diabetic in my family, and keep on living cancer-free (I'm a 5 year Hodgkin's Lymphoma cancer survivor-remission is great!) I want to get down to a healthy weight, and feel better in my clothes.
Thanks for creating this group, I'm excited!
Hi San Jose!
I'm loving this site. I used to use calorieking books (writing in by hand) but this does it all for me. 15 years ago, I was at my fittess, healthy eating habits, lifting weights, major aerobics. After the loss of my husband (who was the motivater in my life) things just went down hill (literally) Well, I'm BACK!!! Started my life style change in January, losing 2 lbs a week so far. Healthy eating (even without the family trying what I make). Doing aerobics and started lifting again. FEELS GREAT! It's wonderful to read about people doing and feeling the same thing. Keep smiling and stay healthy!
Hi Kids!
This is Laurel and I'm here "just livin' the dream" in Silicon Valley! I work in high tech and, well, you all know what that can be like. I've been on this site for a couple of months and have successfully dropped 5 pounds. Going for more.
I, too, am a runner and realize it would be SO much more comfortable running if I dropped some baggage. I am in a group called San Jose Fit that trains for marathons and half marathons, specifically Rock N Roll and Silicon Valley in October. We are really a "social group with a running problem" because we promote overall fitness while fostering connections with each other. As you know, just like with these CalorieCount groups, having buddies to work out with really helps us stay on track and meet our goals. San Jose Fit has a walking group (fast and slower), half marathon training group and marathon groups of all paces. Plus we have conditioning classes, trail running (those are fun!) and track workouts, all supported by coaches. (no fund raising).
I know I'm taking a risk with this thread but I am absolutely positive many of you who are thinking of running halfs and fulls would love this training program and it will help you train safely. We start April 11. You can google "San Jose Fit" for the website.
Thanks for your support on these CalorieCount threads. It has been so helpful to me.
Hello my name is Janna and I'm 27 years old. I recently just move to the bay area from Monterey. On this site, I plan to meet others like me who want to live and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I have had problems with my weight on and off for the past few years and really want to keep it off this time. This site is great because it tells me what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong. I'm currently 2 months away from getting an MBA in Marketing and is wishing in a year to own a puppy. Good Luck to everyone!
Hi, recently passed the 200 mark and I'm 5'3" so thought I'd better try something new. I've put on about 5 lbs a year since my first child was born.
I'm a sweets fanatic and love candy, esp. chocolate, ice cream, cookies, and I won't mention more as it sounds too good. I'm able to control most of the time unless I have emotional challenges, and they don't even have to be big and I tend to eat sweets. If they aren't around, I go get them. I'm not sure if I'm being rewarded or know that I'm inflicting bad behavior. I work about 3-2 times/wk pretty regular and get in a situation where there is literally no time. I'm a stay at home Mom so it seems to make matters worse. Anyway...thought I'd join to hear what other people do to maintain. Shooting to lose 50 at first.
I have an Int'l MBA but have stayed home for the past 14 years. Used to love running and can't wait til my buddy allows me to...for now I like to walk/run. I love to read.
Hi All,
I'm pretty new to forums, but I think that now is the right time for me get involved in one because I can truly use the support in my efforts to lose some weight! I just turned 29, and about a week before my birthday, my doctor told me that all of my health problems are due to my weight. I'm 5'1" and now weigh in at 155 lbs. I used to be very fit, running and lifting weights every day (my driver's license still says that I'm 107 lbs!), but since I graduated form high school, gone through college, and gone through grad school, I've been gradually gaining weight. During my last graduate school program (about 2 years long) I gained 30 lbs. I love food, and it's tough living with my boyfriend who loves junk food but is in great shape.
I'd love to get some sort of exercise routine down, and I can give you every excuse about why I currently don't have any regular workouts in my schedule (my daily commute from Milpitas to Oakland, my need for "enough" sleep every night, my busy social life...etc.). I'm afraid to start running again because my knees get so achy, so I'd like to know if there's a walking group somewhere in the area.
I started waking up early and doing home workout videos (P90X, Yoga for Weight Loss), but I definitely feel like I need more support than my boyfriend saying "good job" every day.
Any advice or tips would be very appreciated!
Jenn
