Hi guys, nice to meet you all.  Here's me:

1. History with weight loss:

Battled weight most of my childhood, lost a ton in the army in my early 20s, slowly gained it back over the next ten years or so.  Never worked out at all other than army cals, running, etc, so had nearly no muscle tone to speak of.  Started hittin' the crippler in Nov 05 at a soft and smooshy 240 pounds, and implemented regular cardio.  Got as low as 179 last year, now sittin' at 36 years old and a solid 200.  I'm currently in mass phase doing a two-day split workout routine and HIIT cardio 3x weekly.

2. History with Calorie Count:

Joined about a year after starting this adventure, mainly for the food log and lookup functions to track caloric intake.  I use a written food log--if I eat it, it goes in the book I carry with me.  Calorie Count, and especially Calorie Count Mobile, keeps me honest and at my daily limit.

3. Reason for joining this group:

Two, really; First, Caloriecountingme invited me.  I never get invited to stuff.  Laughing

Second, because I work out at home (I hate gyms--I'm a Bowflex guy--I own a Bowflex Xtreme and a set of their Selectech 1090 dumbells.  Other than that my cardio comes mainly from the  stationary bike.)  Because I prefer the whole solitary monk thing for working out, I don't really have any other sources of knowledge or tips other than the internetz and figured I'd learn something or at least be able to chat with people about weightlifting once in a while.

On a side note, I'm also trying to break myself from a long stretch of overtraining.  Caloriecountingme and Melkor may remember a discussion we had about it some time ago.  I actually just started this split routine, mainly because I've finally been brave enough to allow myself rest days.  Amazing what the mind does to you--I've spent the last three years thinking that if I took a day off I'd lose ground.  I just took a week-long vacation--(my first training break since '05) and now am forcing myself to allow recovery days to be part of the routine.  I'll need encouragement to stick with that one (hint, hint).

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:

I'm in my 18th year of law enforcement.  Other than work, I'm a boring guy.  My favorite thing to do is sit on my dead ass and play stuff like Call of Duty 4 online.  I work out so I can get away with doing that.  I'm married with two teenage boys stomping and belching through the house.  I bought my wife a Yorkshire Terrier puppy this year so she'd have at least ONE girl to hang out with.  I had dinner with Gallagher in Los Angeles a few years back.  It's been pretty much downhill from there.

can i just state some obvious items of information?

1)  the members of this group are so diverse!  some new to lifting, some been lifting for years.  some cardio converts, some weights-only.  some looking to bulk, some looking to lose weight, some looking to learn.  but everyone seems to be genuinely interested in participating in legit discussions about weight lifting, and that's what i've been looking for.  ppl can come here and pose questions/suggestions, knowing that those responding will take them seriously and answer in a non-flippant way.

2)  i'm a bit of a taskmaster myself, so i often find myself discussing rest periods and whatnot.  see my response to soy_vey's thread about superset rest times.

Nice...so glad I found this group! About me:

1. History with weight loss: I've never really had a "weight" issue.. Just give or take a few inches of fat depositting itself in the worst places. In high school I was a cheerleader and was about 105lbs. In college, I stuck around 125lbs (damn that birth control!). And for the past 5-7 years I stay between 130-138 (I'm 5'5 and a half).

2. History with Calorie Count: I joined over a year ago and only to keep a food log. Some of the guys I used to work out with continued to point out the lack of good calories and complete empty calories (mostly alcohol) my body was getting. I realized that some days I would take in about 800 calories a day in junk food, then the next day take in about 1600 calories in junk food AND alcohol. Not good. I have been logging my calorie intake about 5 days a week and sooo much has changed. I dropped weight without actually meaning to, and am now looking to lift and gain some more muscle.

3. Reason for joining this group: See the last sentence above :) Plus, I got hooked on this "24lift" class at the gym and realize that it's not for building muscle, rather toning while burning fat. I still take the class, but now that I can see some nice muslces ALL OVER my legs. I want to be BIGGER.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I'm a Paralegal (franchising and transactional law), love my family, but rarely spend time with them (maybe that's why i love them?). I don't have pets, don't really like 'em...or kids for that matter! I love traveling, happy hour, shopping... I also love running which I know can be counter productive to gaining the BIG muscle I dream of. I'm starting to switch up the running so that I don't run as much (no more than 5k) and I'm focusing on this HIIT I've been reading from most of you about.

Thanks for lettin' me into your lifting world. I hope to learn more from all of you!

hey there! I'm a violinist/singer/composer and I'm very fitness oriented in general... I find it balances me out somewhat to be physical because I can spend whole days sitting at my computer writing or arranging music. I can also easily spend weeks at a time just being completely cerebral in general, so it's actually a refreshing relief to get out and run, practice my martial arts (I am training for my black belt in HapKiDo) or lift some weights (which I haven't done in about six months due to a very bad - HapKiDo related - wrist injury. I am chomping at the bit to get back to it, hence joining this forum!)

1. History with weight loss:

Generally, I tend to be able to lose weight fairly easily. when I have something as easy to plug into like Calorie Count it's very easy for me. (I quit smoking this way too, at QuitNet.com). my most recent endeavor included a very diligent 9 month stint. I lost 18 lbs and was really proud and happy about it. my problem is that I used my wedding (August '07) as a goal. the wedding came and went and of course I wasn't dieting on my honeymoon and then when I got home I was just sick of counting calories. then I started seriously lifting weights and got the crazy crave thing that pistolpete21 talked about in another thread. that, my friends, was the end of my romance with Calorie Count. until now. I've gained back 15 of the 18 lbs I lost and am not lifting so there isn't even an excuse!! :)

2. History with Calorie Count: see above rant (#1) ;)

3. Reason for joining this group: my wrist is finally healing and I'm about to head back to the gym. I'm REALLY excited about it and though I read Muscle and Fitness Hers (LOVE that mag) I thought being in touch with other people personally would be great inspiration... I'm also interested in specifics: routines, how weight loss happens for people who lift (you know: the whole muscle weight vs fat weight and how you navigate that whole scene), etc...

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I think I mentioned most of these things above but I'll make a quick list (and throw in a few plugs for myself and my music! ;) I love HapKiDo - that's my (workout) priority. I schedule my other workouts around my martial arts training schedule. the school I go to (and teach at) is the World Martial Arts Center in NYC. Running/Jogging, Bikram Yoga (when I'm on the road I like to find different BY studios in various cities), Music , I have two very crazy cats that I like most of the time, I have one crazy husband that I like all of the time (even when I *don't* like 'im), I live in Jersey City which I love, I'm a wine lover (my hubby and I honeymooned in Napa Valley and joined a wine club while we were there), in fact I really enjoy finding the subtleties in everything in Life! my favorite two bands to play with are Burnt Sugar and Brazz Tree. I think that's it for now. thanks for reading all of this!

oh yeah - I Love to Laugh (though I can be very shy at the same time)!

as my good friend and band mate, Brad, says: Welcome to Me!

;)

Hi! I'm Karey.   =)

1. History with weight loss: I've been struggling with my weight since my late teens/early twenties... got all the way up to 200 lbs!  Tried all kinds of diets, etc, but I just couldn't seem to stick with anything until I found CC in February of this year.

2. History with Calorie Count:  Started in February of this year weighing in the 180's and am down to my goal weight of 135 - lost 47 lbs!  =D

3. Reason for joining this group:  Was invited to join and am new to lifting, so I'm looking for advice/techniques, and motivation.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I'm a 28-year-old professional dog groomer (and sometimes skunks & foxes, lol).  Married to my wonderful husband for 5 years and we have two furry kids... a dog and a cat.  I love music (mostly rock/alternative) and movies.  My main interest right now is getting fit and learning more about weight training.  Oh, and I want to get caloriecountingme's arms!  =)

Julie here:

History w/ weight loss: I had been a jock most of my young life, built like a brick s#@% house and solid as a rock. Not much else to do in small town USA. Got married, had children and just packed on the pounds. I played softball for many years as an adult, but injuries took their toll and sidelined me. More weight gain. Quit smoking in April 2006 and wow... before I knew it I was pushing close to 200lbs.... at 5'2" it wasn't pretty.

History with CC: I joined calorie count in July 2006. Was very focused on my counting and my food intake, not so much on the exercise. In spite of myself, I dropped down to 186 by Feb. 2008. Then came the AHHHHAA moment. You know it, when suddenly light dawns on marble head. I wasn't getting the exercise I needed to meet my goals. I joined a gym, hired a trainer and became addicted to weight lifting. Finished with the trainer in June. I have lost 40lbs since February, went from size 16 stretch pants to a true size 8 and can see muscle in all the right places. Amen. (Still a work in progress)

Reason for joining group: I like the fact I can ask questions and someone here will know what I am talking about.I also like that each of us is doing something a little different. I just changed up my routine and found my new one through Melkor....Thank you.... so needed a change.

Details:I am a married, 40 something,  Property Manager with 2 girls. One in College and one in High School. I love the outdoors and when I am not in the gym I am outside working in my gardens or cruising the river in the boat.  Oh and I DESPISE housework. (oh and fair warning, I have a wicked sense of humor)

Hello!

Weight Loss History:  I've never really had a problem with my weight, although there have been times when I realized that I was getting heavier than I wanted to be.  Overall, I've ranged from about 127 at my wedding in May 2007 to about 148 at the end of college.  Currently, I'm at a happy 135, size 4, but am trying to lean out and get stronger.  Right now I'm focusing on the strength training to build some muscle and then will probably try to drop additional fat next spring (before bikini season).  I'm also trying to be balanced with my diet and exercise.  I love to drink wine and go out to nice dinners, so I try to be realistic and treat myself every once in awhile but still keep it in moderation.

CC: I joined CC last spring to lose some weight after I realized how much I had gained back after my wedding.  My original goal was to drop to 132, but I hit a plateau at 135 and realized that I was happy with how I felt and looked, and I was tired of maintaining a calorie deficit, so I changed my priorities a little.  I'd still like to drop some of the "cushion", but like I said, I'll get back to that next spring.

Reason for Joining: I love learning everything I can about fitness, nutrition, and weight-lifting.  I have particularly enjoyed reading the other posts from some of the other members here so I figured it would be good to be a part of this group.

Details: I'm 25, married, and live in Southern California.  I have two big dogs and have been interested in health and fitness since high school, when I played volleyball and fastpitch.  I love to read, garden, and work around the house.  I'm also starting a new job working to reduce carbon emissions at KPMG, so that's going to be my new obsession!

Hi all,

History...have lost 113 lbs so far and have 7 more to go....used to be yo yo dieter, now I realize I had to change my lifestyle.  Joined a gym in July 2007.  Hired a trainer so I would do things properly and wow, the inches and pounds came falling off

CC...joined in late 2006, passed my original goal and made a new one.

Reason for joining group....love to strength train.  It has changed my life.  I feel stronger, am definately leaner and more toned.  I want to learn everything there is about it.  I read whenever and whatever I can get my hands on...strength training books, motivational books, nutrition.  Did I mention I love strength training?????Tongue out

Details...widowed, two grown children, four grands....and soon to be 50 yrs old!

Hey guys,

First off my name is Wayne.

1. History with weight loss:  Well I never really had a problem with weight loss up until about 2 years ago when I go out of the Air Force.  I guess not having someone yell at me to do something like work out negatively affects my motivation to do it.  Go figure.

2. History with Calorie Count:  I joined a few weeks ago and I'm finding its working for me pretty good.  Lost about 7lbs so far.  Now only about 23 more to go.

3. Reason for joining this group:  Back when I first joined the Air Force a friend and I would go to 24hr fitness every night after work.  We only lifted weights since I got plenty of running from the military.  Got in pretty good shape and liked the results.  Then Sept 11th happened and the desert became my new home.  Since I was a flying Crew Chief(just a fancy term for a mechanic that goes where the aircraft goes) I was never at any 1 place for too long.  Not too mention desert gyms leave something to be desired and the gyms on stateside bases close at like 5pm.  Anyways the reason for joining is to get back into shape.

4. Interesting facts about myself, etc:  Well I just recently got back into running and now want to incorporate some weightlifting into my schedule.  I work at A&D Technologies in the S&R department.  I have a Boxer breed dog called Grover.  He keeps me in good shape too.  He requires alot of outside activity.  I moved to a fairly small Oklohaman town after leaving the Air Force but I'm originally from TX.  Good job on beating the sooners yesterday Longhorns.  Of course I cant celebrate it or I'll get the crap beaten out of me.  Some crazy people in Oklahoma.  I quit drinking about 3 yrs ago while in the military, which is a hell of an achievement if you spent any time in the armed forces.  Of course now I realize I dont have is much fun.  Healthier to be sure, but kinda bored ont he weekends now.  I have  a g/f i've been with for about 4 yrs now.  Well thats about all I can think of.  HOpe to talk to you all soon.

Hi, all.

1. History with weight loss and Calorie Count.  I've gone through various phases of being more and less fit, with better and worse eating habits. I gained about 35 pounds starting a software company about 5 ago, working too much and living on takeout.

18 months ago I got serious about getting back in shape. About a year ago I got serious about losing weight, after some scary readings at a doctor's office and scary shopping sessions at the mall.  I got down to 150ish by June, and have normal blood pressure and blood sugar.  Since then I've been maintaining while doing a couple of triathlons over the summer.   I'd like to focus this winter on fat loss again.

2. Reason for joining this group.   I don't actually think of myself as a weight lifter or body builder per se.  I think of myself as more of a cyclist/runner/triathlete, and general fitness fan. I've learned about free weights in the last year, for fat loss and general strength and fitness (thanks, melkor).  I like being stronger, being able to lift suitcases and do other every day activities. For example, I have a crummy bike rack that attaches with straps and hooks to the frame of the car; you need to really pull tight to get it on, and it was much easier today than six months ago.  This winter season I'd like to focus on weight lifting using NROLW.  Hope that's enough weight lifting to join the group...

3. Personal details. I live in the Bay Area now, and have lived in Austin TX and Boston. I work in software, and also do various local civic / public interest projects, including a group dedicated to reducing carbon emissions at the local level (mhaskell, are you consulting on the topic to business customers). I do a fair amount of reading and am a political junkie.

long story folks but had to change my username just in case its confusing anyone.

1. weight loss history: Well, i used to be creepy skinny, but now i guess my metabolisms slowed down a bit and im really not quite as skinny anymore. I want to get down to where my abs show, probably like 10 lbs

2. Calorie count history: None really, unless you want to count the last 24 hours haha

3. why i joined this group: Well, i have been working out w/ my bro or dad since i was 10, and since then i have always been basically the strongest girl in my classes. I have kept working out, and now work out almost everyday. Working out has since become basically a hobbie [haha weird, i know]. I joined the group to see what other ppl are doing and affiliate myself w/ other ppl w/ common interests

4. about me: ...im just gonna skip this one for now  :P

Im Patricio Amauri Sheridinho, I just joined calorie counter. I am fascinated with working out and nutrition and I love to learn more about it and interact with others to see there theories on things like weight lifting what to eat and when to eat. thats all for now, nice to meet u all

I'm Louis.I workout with weights and work at cardio about every day.I can't see myself not working out.I've been at this on and off since I was about 14 years old,but I hurt my back in 2001,and started rehab. The rehab led to fulltime weight training, cardio, etc.and since then I've been working out steady.I do get burned out on occassion, but my cure is to change it up and keep on keepin'on,it always works.Good luck everyone.

Hello, :)

Nice to find a group like this, since I lift at home for so long, and miss everyone at the club I used to go to. :)

1. History with weight loss: Never really been overweight, I'm 5'10" and my max weight was a beer drinking 185Lb. before basic training in Navy at age 21. Since then, my normal weight is 155 to 165, depending on how heavy I lift. But, recently managed to lose most of my thickening waist...
2. History with Calorie Count: Recently joined, but have been counting calories for years using my Palm tx, BalanceLog program, which really helped me maintain my best weight.
3. Reason for joining this group: Seeing others input, sharing my own experiences.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I'm an auto tech, which I love doing. Family is sparse, scattered over the U.S. My pets and friends are my family. Interests are: Nutrition, Metaphysics, Astrology, Health & Fitness, Weight training, Reading, some online video games. Used to play Racquetball, for 20 years. hehe.

I've been weight training since 1984, was doing heavy intense lifting for about 4 of those years, until I found out I'd reached my genetic potential and would never get heavier. I used Arnold's book and found Rachel McLish's book helpful, for proper lifting, tips, techniques.

For those who wonder if you have to lift the rest of your life? yes, but It's surprising that I've been able to maintain a high level of fitness, with very little exercise for over 10 years. I work out 4 times a week, but they are short, and usually only one or two sets. I vary the routine periodically and try new stuff once in a while, but I don't get fancy anymore: just chest, legs and back. which takes care of delts, biceps, triceps, traps as well. I have been neglecting leg biceps tho, only have one simple one for that that's calisthenic.

Stretching is always important , but I've found it to be more so as I age. I think it's more important than lifting at my age: 65 years old

Nice to hear others agreeing with my findings: DON'T have to kill yourself to gain. Listen to your body...

And I found that waiting 3 days between same muscle group works best for me.

I'm Randy. I love working out, been doing it since I was 14 now I'm 22. I joined the air force right after high school, I work with a dietitian. I have a wife and 2 kids and I was starting to get wrapped up in everyday life and not making time for myself and started gaining a little weight. Started training again about 6 months ago now I'm going to do a bodybuilding show this summer and try out for the air force wrestling team for 2010.

I live in Newport News, VA.  I started getting serious about losing some weight again when I hit 190, and I'm slowly dropping it.

I work out constantly (although the recent colder weather has driven me indoors for my running/cycling/swimming, and I hate doing treadmills or indoor cycling) and lift heavily 4-5 times a week.

UNFORTUNATELY, it's not my workouts that are my problem.  What kills me is eating...I love to cook and eat, and I eat a lot of good, rich food.  I eat out regularly as well, and I've tried to use the "Eat This, Not That" book/website from Men's Health as much as I can.

I'm in the Air Force, and because I'm on the road so much, I end up eating out often, and then not getting my workouts in.

So, I guess I want to really track what I do better...that's my goal.  Hopefully, I'll lose weight in the process!

Hope to hear from any of you soon...cheers, Kris

Shrink my gut, its not huge, but annoying, that next size up pants is starting to soundgood, so I am going to get a little more comfy in me current 34's

I want to put on at lease 20-30 pounds of muscle...yes this year.  Hence my need for a structured program.

I have already increased my cardio output and my legs arre in better condition than they have been in a while.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing what is going on here!
