Welcome to the Group (Part 3) - May 1, 2009 to present
Welcome! We would love get to know you, so please tell us a little bit about yourself. You can choose any format you'd like, but most of us here share some or all of the following details:
1. History with weight loss:
2. History with Calorie Count:
3. Reason for joining this group:
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Reason: set as a "sticky post"
1. History with weight loss:
I grew up thin. Then I had kids! Most of my adult life I've been overweight. Not knowing how to diet correctly, I would lose weight only to gain it back. Even when I did lose weight I was flabby, not knowing how important exercising is. I never liked to exercise, I still don't.
2. History with Calorie Count:
I joined CC on the 20th of April. That's all the history I have with this site.
3. Reason for joining this group:
I want to stay grounded. I would like to keep in touch with my sisters and brothers.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
Basically, I'm a boring person. There was a time when I played the drums, worked as an office manager and raised three kids, (not at the same time). I've been married for 30 yrs. I do all kinds of crafts, I also paint, and I make crosses out of marbles and railroad ties. These days I'm a foster Grandmother to a little 4 yr. old boy, who keeps me entertained and on my toes. He's a delight in my life for which I give thanks to God almost everyday. I'm looking forward to having my own Grandchildren whom I would like to be healthy for. Hence the reason I decided to get serious about losing weight the correct way. I started exercising (walking, floor exercises, weights) and have increased it up to 5 days a week. I'm feeling good.
And I'm looking forward to a new and improved me!
~Maggie
Welcome Maggie - you're far from boring! You've accomplished a lot with your 30 years of marraige and now raising a 4 yr old! Nothing is ever boring with kids around! Good for you for exercising even when you don't feel like it - I hope one day to love it! I want to get in shape for grandchildren too!
I love your profile picture! There is a thin person in each one of us - just waiting to be revealed and I look forward to being on this journey with you!
I recently reconnected with a girl I knew in high school who used to be 250lbs, she has lost over 86 lbs and now competes in triathlons! She has been such a encouragement to me and she recommended this site. I love it, I have been faithful in my calorie tracking since April 8, 2009 and have lost 4 pounds so far!
I joined this group because I love the Lord, and know that the change in my heart and the new desire for taking care of my body is from Him! He has giving me new strength, drive, and friends who share similar goals. "I can do all things through through Christ who strengthens me." Phil 4:13 is my motto.
I am a 34 year old wife and mom. I have a 17 year old daughter, and a 9 year old son. My other 2 kids are a 4 year old chocolate lab named Grace Ann Mercy, and my faithful calico Abby. I was born and raised in Alaska. I am finding now that I'm free of smoking and had the spirit of laziness kicked out of my life, I enjoy being active. I love to play walleyball and I'm finding new passions like biking, and hiking. I love to oil paint when I have the time (rarely these days) and I'm a full time hockey, soccer, softball, baseball, and volleyball mom!

Hi,
This is my second day as a member of Calorie Count and I'm glad I found this group because I know I can count on my brothers and sisters In Christ Jesus to keep me uplifted, encouraged and prayed for, and I will do the same for everyone else.
My History with weight loss is more failure than success, except for this time, I know I'm going to succeed because of Holy Spirit power in me and a lot of self control and perserverance. I joined this group for the above reasons and for company, not misery loves company, but I,m glad you're there company.
Currently, I'm off on worker's comp from an old injury to my back, second surgery coming up, and I'm glad, it means I'll be able to move freely again without pain. When i work, I do Christian counseling with alcohol and drugs. I have two grown sons and three grandchildren, and 1 fish.
I have been fat most of my adult life, and I am so tired of being tired, I have never weighed this much in my life; its time for the weight to go. I realized that I would never fully be successful until I allowed the Lord to heal me emotionally, and I forgave myself and others. So, here I am looking for support spiritually, and physically. Please keep me in prayer and if anyone needs prayer, I will happy to pray for them also.
In Christ Jesus,
Susan1154
Hey Susan and Blessedak - hopefully you feel at home here - there is a lot of info in the forums that will keep you busy - so, feel free to post (or comment) on any that you find helpful.
And do let us know if there is something specific we can help you will.
Susan - we have a prayer and praise list and I'm sure all will appreciate an extra prayer warrior lifting up. You may learn of others as you get to know folks.
Blessedak - congratulations on kicking smoking and laziness!
So welcome to you both!
1. History with weight loss:
I have always been a little on the chubby side, but 6 years ago when I was pg with my twin daughters, I developed Crohn's disease. I was so sick and lost so much weight. I delivered my HEALTHY daughters and began treatment. I was wasted away and had to gain weight...well gain I did...about 200 lbs. I now weigh...gasp....340 lbs. I have so many health problems and 3 young kids (10 year old son and twin 5 year old daughters) I want my body to be healthy as it can be and live to see my kids and grandkids grow up.
2. History with Calorie Count
Just joined yesterday
3. Reason for joining this group:
I feel that the Lord is guiding me through this and led me to this group.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I live with my wonderful husband of 15 years, Chris and my 3 kids , son Lucas 10 and daughters Ally and Libby 5 and my doggie Peachy in Dover, Ohio. I'm a stay at home mom that will hopefully enter the work force once again once my girls hit the first grade( KG here is 1/2 day and they start in Aug...we had orientation yesterday...they are so excited to start school.) In the past I've owned my own retail business in Amish country, but had to give it up when I was sick. I am so tired of my health defining who I am and what I do.
I'm involved in my church and my small group. The 6 ladies in my group are all crafters...mostly we rubber stamp and make cards and scrapbooks. We send out encouragement cards monthly to anyone who comes to our attention that needs encouraged. The ladies of my group are my sisters inChrist and I love them dearly.
Ohio has been hit hard with our country's economic downturn...my husband is a machinist in a factory setting. His co. has went through 2 rounds of layoffs and he has survived them, but he has to take a week off without pay every 5th week. This past week was his first week off and his "waiting week" for unemployment. So money is extra tight around here, and we had to apply for food stamps to help out. The pride thing kicked in for a bit with the food stamp thing...but I know this is temporary, and I'm ok with it. I'm excited to find this group and am praying for weight loss success!
Welcome mamavas. I'm glad the Lord led you here! It has been a source of encouragement for me. Hopefully you find the the tools here to help you be successful along your journey. Thanks for sharing about yourself and letting us get to know you!
Lorraine
Thanks for the welcome. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here. I've never before included anyone(including God) in my weight loss battles before...so I'm surprized in myself that I actually typed in my weight for the world to see
One step at a time!!! Thanks for your encouragement.
In Him,
Sherri
Hi Everyone my name is Karen I live in Eastern Canada
My weight has been up and down all my life. I went through some really unhealthy times (losing weight) when I was 16 and then again later. The highest my weight that I can verify was 365 and the lowest was 110. I am 5'4 so it has no where to hide.
I was looking for a calorie counter to help me lose weight I had gone from 330+ (not really sure thats as high as my scale goes) to 317 when I joined here on April 8th . hence Nanny317.
I am married with 2 children and 1 grand-daughter. I am a young nanny in my 40's. My daughter was 23 when she had my gorgeous gbaby. My husband is also struggling to lose weight he was at 475lbs at the last hospital visit. He has lost some since then :)
I joined this group because NJ and Denna have been such a postitive force for me :) and I need to develop my relationship with the Lord. I have not been the Christian I know I can be and I miss that.
I look forward to meeting you all and growing with you sprirtiually as my body redefines itself.
Welcome Karen - Canada is long way from Florida - I just love the internet because of it's ability to make us feel closer!
You could spend days hunting the through the treasures buried in forums - Norma Jean and Denna have a contributed a lot of those, but feel free to add your own!

Karen - I thought you lived in California because of the CA - boy was I way off - Canada! Welcome and may you have a growing time in the Lord with us! NJ
Hi, my name is Jewel..I live in Pasadena, Tx. Been in Texas my whole life, except for a couple of months DH and I lived in Pensacola, FL. We thought we were going to go to bible college at PCC. We were young, just married, and didn't have a dime to our name. I had a job set up, but it paid only minimum wage. We couldn't make it. We moved back home and have been here in Texas ever since.
Hubby and I have been married for 17 years. Some of those happily and some not so. But, because we have included God our whole married life, He helped us through some really bad stuff. I am happy to say that we are very happy in our married life now. Thanks can only be given to God. We have 2 small boys. 5 and 8. We couldn 't have children right away, and believe me, God knew what He was doing. LOL We have just passed the baton (after 9 years of being the youth leaders) to a new couple that was brought in to our church. My DH is the Missions/Evangelist Pastor in our church with my help. It is new to us, but we felt God leading us this way last year, so it has fallen into place.
I work full-time out of the home for a plumbing company...I've been there for 11 years total. I am the Office Manager along with many other duties including A/P, A/R, Payroll, dispatching and on and on and on...I love my job, but my husband and I want to finish paying our debt so that I can come home and be a full time domestic manager. I haven't had the privilege as some mom's do, to go to their children's special programs or class parties, and I really would like to be a part of these things.
After having my 2nd child, I was at 264, I had gestational diabetes and lost about 30 pounds during this very uncomfortable pregnancy . I was extremely unhealthy. But I did the diabetic diet religiously, to save my child in turn it helped me tremendously...After my son was born, the diabetes was gone and I returned to my bad ways. I somehow maintained and stayed at the 264 but I can't tell you how. I finally hit my breaking point after I visited my family doctor and he told me I was morbidly obese. Thanks Doc, for your truthfulness...He told me that I'd be a candidate for the Gastric by pass and that he would sign-off and refer me to a rouen-x doctor. I had several friends that had had the gastric and had great results, but they each had had some pretty bad health issues after the surgery. I went through the classes and psych evals and set a date for the gastric. I kept getting very emotional and started having 2nd thoughts. Thankfully. My husband and I were in bed one night and for some odd reason the Weight Watcher's commercial came on 3 times during our show. I took it for a sign and the next day, which was Dec 29, 2005, I joined Weight Watchers. I never missed and meeting and was very serious and stayed on program. I was very rigid with myself. As I started dropping the weight I was ecstatic. I lost 73 pounds and over 45 inches in almost 2 years.
Then things sort of went hay-wire. We had a job loss, and had 3 extra teenage mouths to feed during the school year and life was a mess. Because of the job loss I couldn't go to meetings anymore. I maintained on my own pretty well, I stayed in touch online with my WW's boardies. Then last year when hurricane Ike hit our area, we were out of our home for 16 days, the kids were out of school and DH was working night and day. I lost it, I began eating like there wasn't going to be any food the next day. It isn't like we had alot of food around, we had to live with my parents in their 2 bedroom 1 bath home, it was more stress than I could handle. I gained from that time till now 28 pounds. Once we got back home I just couldn't get back on track, no matter how many times and how hard I tried. i was eating like a line backer.
Once I gained weight in my early 20's I just kept on, I didn't try to diet, because at my height 5' 10, I didn't look that big to myself. So weight watchers was the first weight loss attempt for me. Now, here I am at CC for help and support. I am glad to be here with like minded people. And I know I will lose this 28 and get to the goal I have set. Sorry for the book.
Jewel/Pasadena
Welcome Jewel.
I hope that you find the support that you need to get back on track and finish the journey that you had started. We may not be Weight Watchers, but we have had our successes (and sometimes our set-backs).
In this group, we hope to guide the spiritual man along with the physical.
Without God, none of us would have the strength nor the determination to continue on this journey to a healthier woman (man) that God wants us to be. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost. We must be diligent caretakers of HIS temple.
May you have a blessed time with us.

Hello everyone, thanks for your warm welcome.
Well, I've been a member for a little while now but am having some trouble trying to work out how to send messages and find the forums again and again, not that i'm not used to computers, but seem to be slow with this website.
My history with weight loss is not a good read, I have been overweight most of my life, but lost control totally at the back end of last year when the weight went up to 14 stone 8lbs. At 5 foot tall that was too much, I was outgrowing size 22 and felt dreadful. After a couple of very heavy periods and a faint on a Sunday when I was about to lead a service, I felt it was time to do something. On January 1st I weighed 14 8. Today, I was 12 stone, and have been steady there for a few weeks. I told myself that i could not do it, I'd tried forever, this time I went to Cambridge Diet for a couple of months to really control my appetite and for the last couple of months I have been simply trying to keep my calories down.
This web site is new to me, but I've been using it to mainly look up calories which i keep track of on an excel sheet, and i find it wonderful, i had no idea that such things were availalbe to help and am trying to take advantage of much of what it has to offer.
I am a mum of three wonderful kids, 12, 16 and 18, and have a lovely husband who has always supported me in anything i wanted to do, right through a degree with the Open University then into work when the kids were young, now doing a post grad diploma in psychology, he proof reads essays, feeds kids and copes with me going away on summer schools and tutorials regularly. I am a Captain in the Salvation Army, and should have really realised by now that God can allow me to do all thigns in Christ, perhaps it was necessary to use the weight problem to show to me that he can indeed.
I want to lose another 3 stone, and now that it's been steady for a few weeks i am determined to do it. I have confidence that God can give me the courage and strength to look ahead and do it.
Thanks again.
Hello fellow group members,
I have tried and tried to lose weight all my life, and I've finally succeeded and am almost to my goal. I am a member of TOPS Club (wonderful support group) that meets once a week. I've lost 95 lbs so far.
I happened upon this website by chance, so am not familiar with it as of yet.
I am looking for additional support that I can tap into any day or time. I need to lose an additional 10 - 20 lbs and am struggling to do so.
My husband and I have just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary. I have two beautiful granddaughters. God is good! I love to scrapbook, crochet, and sew.
I am looking forward to finding new friends on this site, and giving and receiving support and encouragement.
Hi everyone! My name is Tracy. I'm almost 31 years old and this is my first time counting calories and knowing anything about them!
1. History with weight loss:
I've always been the short, cute, but chunky girl. I started gaining weight little by little after high school. I was never an active person and only liked watching sports, not playing them. The first time I ever tried a diet, I was 22 years old. It was the Atkins diet. A few of us at work dieted together. Our office was in the mall, so we walked the mall a few rounds every day at lunch. We did that for 4 months. I lost 20 pounds. Gained double that within the following 3-4 years. I tried Atkins on and off many times after that but could never stick with it. Plus, I hated exercising. HATED IT. Never did it. Skip ahead a few years. I was pregnant and gained 30 pounds total. Not too bad. But it was my highest weight, 236 pounds. I had my son in April 2008 and lost half of the baby weight and managed to maintain that weight for a year. Again, I tried Atkins a few times but I just couldn't stick with it.
2. History with Calorie Count:
I joined CC today! I stumbled upon this site by accident (or was it? :-), and decided to join since I am now counting calories and sticking with it much better than carbs! (Props to my awesome husband for educating me about calories ... what took him so long?!)
3. Reason for joining this group:
My husband is incredibly supportive (he is doing this with me) but I need other women that I can relate with, who love God and want to live their life for Him!
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I have been married for almost 2 years. I have a 14 month old son and a 7 year old step-son. I work full time but am blessed to have such a wonderful mother and MIL to keep my son during the day. My husband and I are huge Florida Gator fans and college football is right around the corner! We live a very simple, quiet life for now. We just basically work, go to church, spend time with our families and exercise. We have a state park in our town and we like to walk that as many times a week as possible. If not, we are fortunate to live on a paved, quiet road that we walk. Well, I walk and push the stroller and he jogs/runs. I am crazy proud of my husband for getting on board with me to get healthy and change our lifestyle for the better! We have been CC and exercising for almost 4 weeks now. I am down 10 pounds and he is down 20 pounds! Anyway, I hope to get lots of support here and be supportive!
Hello, Vanilla here.:) Sorry for the bold letters, my buttons doesn't seem to work.
1. History with weight loss:
I used to take slimming tea during my early 20's, I actually had an addiction with it, which gave me this not so attractive dark circles around my eyes now, 7 years after.
After getting married and having a beautiful daughter, I thought I have been slacking much about my health. So I decided to make a commitment to a healthy lifestyle now.
2. History with Calorie Count:
I joined CC today. I learned about it through a member in 43 things site. I thought since I have a goal to achieve physically, why not monitor my calorie intake as well.:)
3. Reason for joining this group:
I would like to learn from and share experience with people who loves God. I believe it is crucial to be connected to people with the same goals.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I recently resigned from working to finish my college and live in a country. I love nature, my family have two cats. I am contented with life, I have a wonderful husband and beautiful daughter, but there's much more to do in life I guess. I am going back to college and it would probably help if I gain more energy by commiting to a healthier lifestyle from now on.
Hi everyone! I just joined Calorie Counter and am ready to meet some people. Let me tell you about myself.
I am 30 years old. I am married to firefighter. We had twins in March 2008. They are very active now and are so amazing. Life sure is busy with one-year old twins running around! I am active in my church and love working with the children's program. My husband is a former youth pastor and he is now beginning to teach the youth again. I am a Special Education teacher at an elementary school and LOVE my job!
I have always been somewhat overweight. I think that I have always worn plus-size clothing! I am ready to be smaller and healthier! I need motivation and I feel like this site would be a good place to get that. My motivation has rubbed off on my hubby who now wants to lose weight, too!
I would love to meet some people who have similiar needs or lifestyles as me.
