Welcome to the Group (Part 3) - May 1, 2009 to present
Welcome! We would love get to know you, so please tell us a little bit about yourself. You can choose any format you'd like, but most of us here share some or all of the following details:
1. History with weight loss:
2. History with Calorie Count:
3. Reason for joining this group:
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Reason: set as a "sticky post"
Just turned 30 Saturday. I have been struggling with my weight for years.
A few years ago I was over 230 pounds. I had Diabetes and High Blood Pressure.
I am now 50 pounds lighter and no longer on medication for Diabetes.
My reason for wanting to lose weight is not to be skinny. Ideally I am suppose to be at 120ish at my height but ideal for me personally would be 130-140ish.
My reason for wanting to lose weight is for my Health.
(then after that I may want to be skinny. lol (wink))
God Bless you all. Thank you for your support and prayers

Hi there! Thanks for having this place for Christ Followers to band together and pray our way through this journey!
1. I grew up being called fat and feeling fat even though I was thin simply because I was tall and the other kids were mean. I didn't start gaining weight until I was around 19, and then I gained a LOT of weight: 150 pounds. Then I lost all of it. Then I kept it off for a few years and finally got married and had a baby and postpartum...then I gained again. And I kept it on for two years before realizing I needed, absolutely NEEDED, to lose it again...for good...for better for worse, for richer or poorer, to be a God glorifying temple! So in January, after having pneumonia, I decided to start walking and then working out and eventually making healthy eating choices--actually begin eating more than once or twice daily. I also decided I had to quit smoking...for good...
2. I was a couple months into my new lifestyle and counting points and calories on my own when my sister found calorie count and I started using this tremendous tool...I had lost 24 pounds and was ready to lose a whole lot more--my goal was to lose 143 pounds. I have used the heck out of this site since the Lord led me and my sister here, and I am so grateful for it!
3. I joined this group because the Lord is my Shepherd, and I still struggle, and often times I need support, Christian support... my husband is not a Christ follower yet, and my family is busy...it is nice to not only bounce ideas off of others losing weight but also people who have faith!!! I am looking for a networking, especially since the studies I attend live are not meeting now.
4. Nothing much interesting about me right now--well, I'm sure there is, but the Lord reveals what he wants, and right now I am not feeling any inspiration to share anything! I'm sure I'll let tidbits go here and there...
Looking forward to this group!
Welcome Amanda
I hope that you find inspiration and support with this group. We may be geared a little differently than the other groups that are around this site. But we try to lift up the name of Jesus and Praise HIM for our successes.
Jump in anywhere that you want to share your thoughts or ideas.
You mentioned your sister is also on this site. Is she also a member of this group? Do we know her?
See you around the threads.....

Amanda - This sounded so close to "my story" - I have battled with my weight ever since I can remember the boys in 2nd grade calling me Norma "the cow". The problem is - I was not fat just tall. I wish I could post my prom picture from high school - I am so thin and tall at 5'11".(profile/njakamarilyn) .
So glad you found us! If there is anything we can do to help you on your journey let us know!

Hi, my name is Judy Franz and I live in Maryland.
History of wt loss: Since I was a teenager, I have battled with my weight.
I've tried a lot of the programs out there, some worked but regained the wt.
The last year or so, I've been losing 5 lbs and regaining it! Very frustrating.
History of Calorie Count: After reading an article in a women's magazine,
I decided to check it out. I think that was a couple months ago.
Started using the food log and that was helpful, but stopped.
Reason for joining: For support, motivation, inspiration.
About me: I am in my 50's, have an awesome husband and 2 grown
children, that live on their own. I have had medical problems since I
was in my 20's. My faith in the Lord is what has brought me through.
Despite chronic pain, I raise puppies for the disabled. I get an 8 wk old Lab or
Golden and raise her until she's 15 months then return her to the school for
Advanced Training. I have my 9th puppy.
Also, I began my own business-training dogs and boarding them, which I love!
I'm so glad to have found a Christ based support group for weight loss.
Judy
Hello Everyone Again,
1. History with weight loss: My history with weight loss has been none. I always talked about loosing weight even more so when I started seeing myself get big. But I avoided a scale like the plaque, and had Mcdonalds 2x time a day plus meals at home and work. But yeah...I was serious about weight loss NOT!!
It wasn't until the stroke that I got serious and haved been steadily declining in weight loss every week now. I refuse to use the word diet and have found that in order to loose weight I had to recognize this as a lifestyle change, because if I am serious, it effects every aspect of my life, not just what I eat.
2. History with Calorie Count: I joined the Group in April and have found this to be a blessing with all the encouragement from stranger to stranger I don't look at anything but success.
3. Reason for joining this group: I joined originally because it was a way to count calories. But I came for the calorie count and stayed for the fellowship.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: About me??? Well l'll try to keep it short.
I am 49 years old and love the Lord. I am very happily married to a beautiful woman inside and out for 25 years-26 years in December, (It really seems like I have only been married for 5-6 years). We have 3 children 25 year old son, 23 year old daughter and at 16 year old daughter. (My 25 year old son and 16 year old daughter were born on the same day). My children in itself is a blessing, because when I was 15 I was shot in the back and the bullet went through me and landed in my scrotal area, which the doctors could not remove for 3 months after which time they told me I would never be able to have children. But isn't God good.
We are originally from Maryland, but God brought us to this area in 1997 for what I am beginning to understand more and more now the reason. I have been in the ministry since 1991 and am now Pastoring a church, this is the first year as a Pastor, prior to which I was Assistant Pastor in Dayton, Ohio, but now have a church here in Richmond. (This to is a blessing) When God called me to Pastor, and we were looking to plant a church out of my church in Dayton, we started looking for a building here in Richmond. While I was at my prior job as a General Manager, a gentleman came into where I was working at who know nothing about us looking for a building or God calling me to a Pastor came in and said to me I have a building God told me to give you and the only requirement is that you preach Jesus. You have nothing to pay but the utilities and the building is yours. It is a building with 4 floors up and one down. God has a reason for everything.
There were some other things that happened between me accepting the building and stepping into the Office of Pastor, but that can be for another time, but it involves procrastination, and I guess you could say lack of faith.
I am now working at a hospital, in which is a blessing, because when I applied here there were 4000 applicants that had come in for the first 6 months of the year, and God choose me.
My interest is people, I guess you could say I love to talk which you can tell from this post and my last and I love the Lord. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all its righteousness and everything else you need will follow.
This is me in a nutshell.
Hope to talk to you all soon.
Mark
I am so excited to meet new people who love God! Thank you for providing a place I can come to for fellowship.
1-History with weight loss: As I child I was teased and called the human garbage disposal by my father. This impacted me so much and I developed an eating disorder. I went into treatment at about 20 yrs old and then began my journey to a healthier way of eating. I still struggle with weight being an issue. I quit smoking and gained about 20 lbs and now I am trying to lose it. I want to be able to see myself as beautiful because I am a child of God and just eat healthy because it is what He would have me do not because I equate it with my worth.
2- History with Calorie Count: I was talking to a fellow coworker, very frustrated because I would work out on the elliptical for up an hour a day at times and had not been able to lose an ounce. She suggested it may be because i wasn't eating enough. I couldn't believe it. That day I got on the internet and fount CC and I began to log in what I was eating, reading information and the forums. I began to notice I was eating more than before, however it was much healthier foods and I felt better and I actually lost a few pounds. Some days are better than others.
3-Reason for joining this group: I recently found a website for gardeners very much like this, where we share ideas, encourage and support each other and take joy from each others successess. I said to my husband one day "I wish there was a site like this one, only christian based, where I can find support and encouragement as well as be that for others in our daily struggles with issues in life" As I was going through CC community I stumbled across this site and was estatic. God was listening to me. I am so grateful and excited. I know that anything in my life can be withstood through the strength of God and that without Him my life really feels empty and purposfuless. My hope is to gain strength and courage through the people and lessons He places before me.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am 43 years old, married to a wonderful man for almost 7 years, live out in the country (which can become lonely and isolating), have a chihuaha named Tito and a shipoo named Zoe. I teach children from K-6th grade to love Spanish at a military base school, I love to garden, and make jewelry. I also love to talk to others to hear what God has done in their lives and share what He has done for me. I want to grow spiritually and am eager to become closer each day with my Lord.
Welcome Mark and Normal702 - Glad you both found us! We look forward to having you join us on this journey to better health.
Mark, congrats on the recent weight loss - keep up the good work.
Normal, congrats on quitting smoking - you'll get the extra weight off. You'll find a lot of great tools on CC and LOTS of encrouragement.

Thanks for the encouragement. I believe even in this phase of my life, I must give credit were credit is due and that is to the power of God who has given me the strength to stay on course.
Jesus said I came that you may have life and have it more abundantly... to me part of an abundant life is good health.
2. I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. God will give us the power and the strength to accomplish everything we set out to do as long as we keep focuses on Him. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all its righteousness and everything else you will come second to this. Good health is important no matter your size.
2. Delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
4. Anything you ask in my name and believe we are told we will receive.
I believe God wants us to be in good health, which is why in the Old testament, He set guidelines on what we should and should not eat for healthy living. Did I always look at this. NO!!! But He made us so we should turn to His instructions for proper operation of the vessel to which the Manufactor made.
Thanks again. God Bless and May He continue to allow you much success and an encouragement to others who lifes you have no doubt effected by the spirit of love He has given you to be available to others through this site.
Your are truly a blessing!!!
Mark
My name is Beth and I have been trying to loose weight for 10 years now. I married for my third (and last time) on July 30th 1998 to a wonderful Christian man that led me to the Lord. After being married , saved and born again, I gave up smoking and drinking and running around at bars. My weight was always between 105 and 120 because I didn't eat much and spent all my time out with friends dancing and partying.
Well after settling down, we moved to Florida and I started working at a desk job for the first time in my life(I was a bartender/waitress for 12 years before). And for 4 years I sat at my desk and ate and ate and then I would go home and my husband and I would eat out every night. I put on about 50 lbs and he put on about 60. So I have been on every diet known to man trying to get it off. I've lost 20 and then gained 20 back for the past 6 years. It seems I can never get past 160lbs. I either get tired of the diet or would get frustrated with my husband because he didn't want to loose weight and didn't want to support me.
In Febuary, the Doctor told my husband that he had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides and was considered diabetic and his pancreas was being damaged. I think this was his wake up call and I was thanking God. Now maybe we both could get healthy together. He has now lost 35 lbs and still loosing and I have lost 15lbs. We work out together and also ride our bikes and play tennis. We are planning in July to go on a camping/mountain bike riding trip at one of Florida's forests.
We are not going to give up this time....I'm not giving up this time. I'm tired of my knees hurting and never feeling like I fit into anything. Got a whole closet of clothes that just don't fit. I will get back into those nice summer dresses I have. I just need to be patient and pray....
Hi Norma Jean and everyone in this group! This looks like a really supportive and healthy (both physically and spiritually) group. Here are some of my details.
1. For most of my life I was average weight but did gain some weight my senior year in high school didn't exercise much. Fortunately in my first year in college I lost some weight and started being more physically active and connected with God. Then my second and third years in college (especially before my second year in the summer of 2007) I lost weight a lot of weight and got down to my lowest weight. In reality, the lowest weight I got to was considered underweight in BMI and a lot of people said I needed to eat more. Just this past year from the summer of 2008 to present I gained a lot of the weight back and haven't been extremely physically active or spiritually connected with God. But I understand I need Him to be able to change and I need to be healthy and to read the Bible again so I've started to do that.
2. I have used Calorie Count for a while, primarily in 2007 but not so much this past year :( .
3. God's love and strength, and the support of Christians also losing and maintaining weight and physical activity are my reasons for joining this group.
4. I'm just your average girl I suppose. I'm trying to finish up college, I work part-time in retail, live at home with my family, have one cat, and I'm interested in health, fashion, beauty, exercise, science, art, and music.
Welcome to the group ecka and on a life changing journey. This is what your are beginning. Once we decide to loose weight we should look at it as a life changing experiencing because it effects every area of our lives, not just what we eat, but the places we go, the things we do, the people we associate with (whether they are supportive or not) but everything.
This is a great place to be. I have found there are people here who love the Lord and because they love Him, they exemplify that in the way they reach out to complete "strangers" in love to support and encourage them. Keep coming back more then once a day and you will get the love, support and encouragement you need for this journey and you will have much success.
Just one reply if I may say, you said you are just an average girl, but when I read the book of Genesis over and over and over again, the author writes and God saw what He did and it was good, I don't believe we are average, because we have a King as our Father who is full of grace and mercy who says He will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory. And because our Father owns everything and we are His children, I don't consider us as average, but belonging to a family that has much waiting for us to inherit if we keep the faith.
From one ambassador to another
God bless you on this journey and remember he said He will never leave you or forsake you. So even if you don't reach you goals for the day, press on anyway.

Mark - thank you for your words (OK, the Lord's) in reminding us we are very precious in the sight of the Lord. No matter what ... and especially if we don't meet our goals for the day to press on ... NEVER GIVE UP ... He has never given up on us.
Lord, thank you for your servant Mark and the joy he shares with us in this group in keeping us focused on You, our creator. ~
Thank you! Yes that's true, we are all special and unique, none of us are average
. We are all created in the image of God. Thanks for the reminder for that and of not giving up.
James 1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
Hi everyone,
My name is Linda, but you may call me Lin--all my friends do.
I enjoy sewing (quilting especially) and my cats. :)
1. History with weight loss: I never really had a weight problem until I turned 40. By the time I was 43 years old, I weighed 188-lbs and had a mini-stroke. That was 1-1/2 years ago. I continued to smoke, drink pots of coffee and only through the grace of God, did not have the "big one". Sadly, I did nothing to improve my health at that time--until 1-year post stroke. I just woke up one day and decided that I needed to be more thankful for all the wonderful things God has blessed me with--including my good health. It was a gift from Him. Had He given me anything else, I would have take excellent care of it--so why not my (normally healthy) body? I took control and though Him have been able to lose 44-lbs and walk 5-1/2 to 6 miles (at 3.5mph) every day. With Him, ALL things are possible.
2. History with Calorie Count: I am fairly new here, but love what I see. It has helped me to record my caloric intake. :)
3. Reason for joining this group: I love and adore God. Jesus has never stopped saving me and is always waiting for me when I fall. He has been the one to pick me up consistently--the only one I could always count on.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I adore sewing, mainly quilting. I am happily married and have cats...lots of cats! :)
Welcome Erika and Linda!!
CC has some wonderful tools that we all should utilize. For instance, in the Recipe Analyzer, just put your favorite recipe in and it will calculate how many calories are in a serving and also will give you the nutritional value!
I love logging my food. I never realized how many calories I ate! It's no wonder why I grew so large!!! HELLO! ![]()

Okay...here goes.
I find myself, unfortunately, in a position where I am at the highest weight in my life - 201 pounds.
Until the birth of my 2nd child, I'd never had a problem being over weight. In fact, I think I was anorexic and didn't know it. I remember being 103 pounds, and my husband at that time says he remembers me always complaining about being fat (although I don't remember that). Now, some 22 years later, I am looking back thinking, "What was I thinking!"
History with weight loss:
As I said above, it wasn’t until after the birth of my 2nd child that I started having weight issues - and actually, now that I think about it, maybe it wasn’t until about 1998. Between the birth of my 3rd child and then, I maintained my weight at about 135. Anyway, since about 1998, I have been adding and subtracting weight, yo-yo style. I have tried several different weight loss solutions – pills, shakes, powders you make into shakes, exercise/diet programs (BFL, P90, etc.) – all ending up to be yet another opportunity to fail.
History with Calorie Count:
I registered with Calorie Count, I believe, in April of this year. I have not really been active, but I do get stories in my e-mail, and have read a few interesting and informative articles. I have invited a few people to join also, so we’ll see how that goes.
Reason for joining this group:
I need motivation, encouragement, and accountability. It is good for me to have a visual reminder and a place to log what I’m doing so I can track my progress and have some type of self-motivation and gratification, or, rather, a sense of accomplishment.
Both my Heavenly Abba (Daddy) and my family deserve to have a healthy Robin…
Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
Go figure, I love to cook (and so does my husband)! He’s the sweets (mainly chocolate) guy, and I’m the meal maker and bread baker. We both love to watch Food Network (not that anyone can tell).
I love music, and am on the worship team at church and for our Celebrate Recovery meetings. I sing and play guitar, and occasionally, God will bless me with a song to share with others.
I love sports! We watch baseball, football, basketball, tennis, billiards…if it is on ESPN, it’s probably on at my house!
I am a program assistant at a non-profit health care quality improvement organization in Little Rock, AR. I love my job, and it comes with its own stress.
My husband and I have been married for almost 6 months now, and I maintain that he is the best husband (for me) on the face of the planet. We both love food so much that even our nicknames are food! I am his cheeseburger (adopted from a Veggie Tales tune) and he is my manicotti (since he loves Italian food, and it is the only one I could think of with the word “man” in it). Okay…we are also a very sappy couple, and we like it that way.
My immediate family (mom, kids, grandchild) live in Washington State. I moved to Arkansas to be with Paul (my husband) in 2006. It is difficult to be away from my family, and I think that contributes to my self-soothing eating habits…but I’m stepping away from that behavior!
Okay, there you have a few tidbits about me… If any of you live near Jacksonville, AR, and want to get together to do some roller skating or walking or hiking or bowling…let me know!
Hi I am new here and did one of the welcome to the group questions and thought I would fill this one in also.
1. History with weight loss: My Weight has gone up and down with the years. In early high school I was an over weight teenager that almost everyone made fun of and had big time issues with it but by the time Grade 12 came along I was a svelt 127 lbs and felt great. I kept that up for another 5 years or so and then the weight started to come back with a vengence. I had my one and only child in May of 2001 and the weight has stuck with me for the last eight years. I currently weigh 244 lbs and feel like a bloated blow fish. I have to hold myself accountable for my diet and exercise. It is hard when Most everyone around me is healthy and skinny and don't feel like going for a walk or some kind of activity. I am not sedintary in anyway. We have an active life style just not as active as it should be. I have a loving hubby that supports me if I want to do it but then he also says that he loves me for the way I am and doesn't understand why I want to lose weight.
2. History with Calorie Count: I joined CC in April of 2009 and have lost a few pounds and then gained them back and lost and gained. (A vicious cycle). But CC has shown me a great deal on how my eating habbits are contributing to my weight problem. I am very thankful for the Food Diary.
3. Reason for joining this group: I was looking for a group and have added a few but have never received any word from any of the members. And then today I heard from Norma Jean and she invited me to join this group so I thought hey why not. I am looking forward to getting to know tons of people in this group and sharing our victories and our down days.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am a paralegal up here in Canada. I work for bankruptcy/insolvency/trademark lawyers. Very interesting job I must say. I am 34 (almost 35) years old. Live in Calgary. (Stampede week going on right now). I have a wonderful Hubby, a step son who is 12 and a son that is 8. Wel have no pets right now but are looking to get the boys a cat. My interests are nothing to special. We like camping, swimming, hanging out at home. My son and I have found a new passion for gardening. We just bought our second home which has a big back yard so we have planted and big garden and lots of flowers.
That is about it for me. Anything else you want to know, don't be shy. I am not. ![]()
Val
Welcome Val! I hope and pray that you remain strong. You're not alone in this weight loss journey. I'm happy to meet another sister! ![]()
