Welcome to the Group! Who's with me on the home stretch???

Welcome! We would love get to know you, so please tell us a little bit about yourself. You can choose any format you'd like, but most of us here share some or all of the following details:

1. History with weight loss:
2. History with Calorie Count:
3. Reason for joining this group:
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:

Here is a little about me:

I've been using CC for several years now and it's helped me loose 28 lbs so far, but I've never used the community forums or met anyone. The reason I posted was because I would like to meet other people for mutual support to get over the last little hump! I'd also like to keep in touch for maintenance support, as I want to keep it consistent for at least 1 year! (of course a lifetime, but 1 year is a measurable goal.)

Age 32 - FEMALE

Height 5'7"

Start Weight (Jan '07) 180 lbs

Current Weight (Oct 1 '08) 152 lbs

Goal Weight (November 28 '08) 143 lbs

And now just go ahead and make that first post!

I have never done the forum thing.  I just read these posts and they were exactly where I am at.  I am about 10 lbs from my goal weight, depending on the day.  Today is not a good day.  I think I can weigh 130, but recently resigned to set a new goal weight of 135 because after 4 months of trying, I can't seem to get below 137.  I work out 4-5 days/week.  I usually do cardio 2 days and weights with some cardio 2-3 days.  I find I eat better if I write down what I plan to eat for the day.  But, frequently don't do this.  I love the mantra  'failing to plan is planning to fail'.  I have 3 kids and work part-time.  My husband has to travel some with work.  I find I am a very emotional eater.  I can be great, no problem, for days.  Then, the emotions and stress kick up and I binge.  Chocolate, sweets, carbs, the more the better.  I would love some accountability to this group.  I am so sick of the people around me telling me how good I look.  When I say that I mean they say things like "Don't worry about it, you look great for having had 3 kids".  Talk about a backwards compliment.  I want to look good, period.  I also just want to feel thin, I am so sick of the tire I carry around my mid-section.  At 137, I was really content.  But, just 3-4 lbs over that and I feel fat.  Today is a particularly bad day b/c I have been eating good all week and yet I feel sooooo bloated!

Hi Wink,

I know what you mean. It's easier to eat right when life is going smooth. Harder when the stress mounts. Me too! It just seems like less of a priority then, but in the end we're not happy with the results.

What helps you?

If you set concrete calorie goals and workout goals one week out can you keep them?

Heya!

Well.. I'm nia.  Hi (again) and I'm 25 years old.

I'm 5'9

Start Weight: 180 (July 2008)

Current Weight: 165

Goal Weight: 155.... maybe 150 (Lol I'll cross that bridge when i come to it >.<

I'm a nurse and a mom.  I was actually down to about 145-50 lbs or so then i had a really stressful period and moved to Atlanta, GA and then back to California just this July.  In that 6 months or so that I was gone I gained at least 30 lbs :(  Lol talk about emotional eating.  I figure I can't call my extra weight baby weight anymore since my son is 6. Lmao.  Anyways... I actually track my calories on a different site (the daily plate) but I come here for the forums.

I recently went vegetarian and started working out 5 days a week, doing the elliptical and/or weight training.  I also eat around 1300-1800 calories a day and drink what feels like my weight in water but the scale won't budge!  So I'm at a loss!

Anyways nice to meet you all :)  Hope to see more people join soon.

Hi Nia,

I live in CA too. I'm a working mama and a vegetarian too. We have lots in common.

Hmmm. Are you getting enough fiber? too much sugar?

Oh another thing, when I am stuck I tend to make a big change for a short time, like a fasting diet or a cleansing diet or detox.

Also, the other day I tried a colonic for the first time. Wow, humiliating but effective. Worked to "get things moving."

Age 40 - FEMALE

Height 5'10"

Start Weight (October 2007) 252 lbs

Current Weight (Oct 1 '08) 174 lbs

Goal Weight 165 lbs

I successfully started October 2007, using a different site (SP). I joined a challenge there, and it helped to keep me committed, even after the first week or two of interest died off.

As I tell people these days, the keys are moving more, eating less, and keeping on doing it. Who knew?

I don't have much of a history with Calorie Count.

Reason for joining group? That last 10 pounds or so!!! July 1st I was 181 pounds, and I've gradually lost since then, without putting any real effort into things. I haven't tracked food or exercise, and I've exercised much less. I'm moving more, now that we have a dog again, but still - it's not the same as it was. I'm kind of thinking of this as pre-maintenance.

I would like to get a bit more weight off - less tummy, some more off the bum, and no more arm thingies.

must run!

1. Well when i was in the 7th grade i was called a "Dr pepper can"

That started my eating disorder. I starved myself by just ust drinking chocolate  milk  and powerade. I lost 20 pounds

Now i have been dieting ever since im about 10 pounds away from my goal weight and cant seem to budge. i dont wanna go back either!

2. I've been on calorie count since Janurary of 2008.

    Lost some. gained some!

3. I WANNA LOSE 10 LBS
4. I am a photographer and i love life. I also love food(thats why i am here)

Hello all,

I started with CC in February 2008, shortly after I stepped on a scale that showed I weighed 185 pounds.  I nearly died of embarrassment.

I'm 43 years old,  5'5", started at 185, and am currently at 152 (very similar to you, Rayadawn) with a goal of 145 by my birthday in November -- 8 pounds in 7.5 weeks.  (Birthday is the Monday before Thanksgiving -- my favorite holiday, the one that's all about eating, ya know?)  After I reach 145 I might go for another 5 pounds, depends on how I feel when I get there.  I've weighed as little as 130 in my adult life but it wasn't very pretty.

I have a very sedentary life -- My day job consists of sitting on my tush while I do textual editing, proofreading, and, currently, indexing a book; at night I teach and do research for scholars who pay me large amounts of money to comb through archives for them, but not often enough that I can support myself on this -- just often enough that I can take my husband out for a nice dinner on occasion!  I recently started walking during my lunch hour.  I seriously hate to exercise.  I take in 1200-1400 cals per day -- 1400 is pushing it.  Sometimes I struggle to get up to 1200.  I also drink beer -- so I've been limiting that to one or two a day.

I recently was stuck at 156 -- I upped my food calories and reduced the beer calories and broke the plateau fairly quickly -- took a week maybe.  The hardest part for me has been eating enough -- I get full on 800 calories and have to force myself to eat more.

Well I am a 31 year old SAHM of 4.  My oldest is 13 years and my youngest is 6 months.  Before I got pregnant with the baby I was about 10+lbs over weight.  Then after having her it seemed to fly off... ummm well for the first 6 weeks... then it flew back on!  UGH!  When she turned 6 months old I was still at the same weight as the day I went into the hospital to have her.  I dropped sugary snacks and sodas, I started walking daily.... I already have a pretty busy day to day life.  Take the kids to school, do 3 loads of laundry, sweep, mop, vacuum, do dishes, wipe down all the counter tops because the kids can't seem to clean up after themselves, clean 3 bathrooms and straighten up 5 bedrooms, feed and clean up the baby a hundred times a day, run errands for the family, pick the kids up from school, help with homework, go to band practice, soccer practice, make dinner, clean up from dinner, give the baby a bath, talk to the husband... fall dead in bed.  LOL

So my gym started this total solution program.  I went to talk to the lady and it was wildly expensive.  However what I did get out of it was that my metabolism was dead asleep because I was practically starving myself by eating less than 900 calories a day.  I wasn't gaining... but I sure wasn't loosing either.  Well the cost of the program counted me out... but I accidentally found this website... for free... and it had some of the same ideas.  So now I am doing cardio every other day and strength training twice a week and so far I have lost 8lbs.  YAY

Ray,

You asked what works for me.  That's the problem!  I can't seem to figure out a solution to this last 10 lbs or so.  I can plan out a week in advance.  I usually plan my food more day to day.  I will sit down the night before and plan out the next day.  Exercise, I usually map out for a week at a time depending on kids' schedules, husband's travel schedule, etc.  I think I am in a bit of a food rut.  Bored with what I am eating.  The other problem I have is if I am counting calories, I tend to pick food that I can easily count the calories (i.e. prepared food).  I love to cook, but I think I take in too many calories when I eat homemade food.  It all just seems like too much sometimes.  If I am doing meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, etc.  Then within that framework I am trying to balance the kids' likes, ease of meal prep, grocery costs and on top of all that my calorie count!  It get so overwhelming, I just say 'forget it' and end up eating chocolate or too much of dinner!

I feel like I am doing a lot of complaining!  I am a firm believer in making 1-2 small changes at a time.  Anybody got any suggestions?

Wink:

I never considered it, but I'm glad I only have myself and husband to cook for -- planning diet meals with kids involved has to be a hassle.  Proportion is important, of course, especially if you're eating high cal foods because they are meals your kids will eat.

Have you used the the new recipe tool on CC?  I use it a lot when I make up recipes -- I think it gives a fairly accurate read of the calories in home cooked meals.  This does take some time, effort, and if you're overloaded with life that's not always easy.

I've eight pounds to go -- I don't understand why the last 10 is the hardest.  Maybe we should all say we want to lose 20 pounds more, lose 10, and then stop and maintain!  Ha!  Seriously, I'm upping my exercise (which was basically nothing) and, ironically, upping my calories -- I was apparently in "starvation" mode, even though I am quite full and satisfied on 800 food cals a day.  I know, it's bad.  But I'm eating healthy food and am seriously stuffed at the end of the day.  I'm also dropping back on the beer consumption because I am pretty sure this is keeping me from losing the last pounds.

Rotsa Ruck!

I also can't seem to lose that last 10 pounds.  I'm thrilled with what I have accomplished.  Here's my numbers:

Age:  42

Height:  5'5"

Start weight:  184

Current weight:  141 (total loss of 43 lbs)

Goal weight:  135

I've been at the same weight now for over a year (I fluctuate 5 pounds here and there).  It almost seems like my body doesn't want to get to that goal weight.  It's very frustrating.

Connie -- congrats on your success so far!

Hi All!

I've been battling the last 10-15 lbs for about two years--honest! I've always used Weight Watchers and that program has helped me lose over 50 lbs four times--with the birth of each of my four children. Two years ago, I blew out my thyroid and gained 14 lbs and it has been a struggle ever since, even though I'm on 75 mg of meds. I am pretty active--I take step and yoga four times a week, and love to go on walks through a hilly cemetery near my house a few times a week. I've tried lowering cals, upping my intake, etc...but nothing seems to make a difference. One month, I exercised 12 hours/week for four weeks--my net loss was a mere .5 lb! And, that was with eating fruit smoothies for lunch and salads with non-fat dressing for dinner EVERY day. I'm at a loss, but I thought that a group would help me stay motivated and try different approaches. The points system on WW just isn't working for me anymore.

I'm married, have four kids (13,11,8,5), and own a small all-natural granola and toffee business.

2. History with Calorie Count: I've been counting for about 2 years now, but in the last few pounds counting was causeing me to obsess over food and sabotage myself with binges when I lost weight. So now I'm just going to try and learn to listen to my body to know when I'm full. Although I've counted calories for so long I can estimate in my head lol

3. Reason for joining this group: I want to be 110-115 for a long time now so my goal is to reach that by christmas, hopefully with the help and support of this group.

I'm Aimee, I'm a SAHM of 3. My kids are 9, 7, and 4. I have had issues with my weight since my first DD was born in 1999. I started a program last year that I lost all my weight on. I have been my current weight since Nov. of last year. Just cant seem to get the last little bit in check, so I ran across this site (looking for a recipe calculator, actually) and decided to join and try the calorie counting thing for a while.

My husband and kids are "naturally thin", so its hard to deny them of the "good" stuff that I need to stay away from. They are great and very supportive tho.

Ummm, haha, I don't know what else to say. I guess that's about it.

Nice to meet y'all♥

I don't like pets and suck at taking care of other living beings lol. I have a bad addiction to shopping, a girl can never get enough clothes :] I think that's about the gist of it
