hi ya and thank you for warm welcome!!!

I am 38 years old starting university once again!  I started my weight loss journey july 2007 and have lost 105 lbs to date.  I was quite heavy at 250 lbs and am feeling so much better all around!

i think I'm aiming to lose another 15 lbs.  No hurry though.

Hello!

Thank you so much for the welcome. :) I am 19 (turning 20 this year) and I am 4'10. Last year I weighed in at 90 pounds. However, the year has been an emotional roller-coaster for me with my boyfriend and I breaking up, my parents making their split final, and academic issues. From staying at a steady 90 pounds all of last year I ballooned to 115. I finally realized that I was getting out of control when some of my clothes no longer fit me. 25 pounds in one year is a very dramatic weight gain, especially for shorties.

My goal is to get back to 90 pounds, or at least get back into my old pants. :)

Haley, we have quite a few college ladies here! (I am not one of them-- had to quit and work, but I would like to go back one day.)

100 pounds in one year is fantastic and shows amazing dedication and hard work. You must be very proud. May I ask, did you log your calories and exercise the whole time, or after a while did you kind of have a good idea what to eat and how much and how much exercise you needed to do without having to log?

Kam, I was reading your other thread earlier that mentioned that you are going into linguistics! I know that has to be an interesting field. I love language too. I only speak english, but I have been studying spanish from a book for a few months now. LOL I can speak a small amount of spanish in the past tense at this point! I was studying court reporting--stenography-- which is like a language unto itself.

Hi again :)

It all started when I got a personal trainer at my gym on July 25th/07.  (what a waste of money)  Trainer was 3X a week for 6 weeks costing about $600.

All I did was circuit training consisting of 8-10machines 3 X a week along with 20 minutes cardio (treadmill).  I didn't even count calories until I found this site in September (2 months later).  After my 6 weeks of personal training, I lost 21 lbs and several inches.  When I say waste of money, I mean, I could stand there with a clip board and count my reps for a lot cheaper!  He wasn't even with me while I did my cardio.

When I found this site, I had finished up with trainer but continued to go to the gym 5 times a week....again only doing treadmill.  I can't get a good feeling on the elliptical....very uncomfortable for me.

I still log all my food to this day.  I still weigh all my food.  It keeps me on track and I enjoy doing it!  I still work out everyday and I try to burn at least 300 calories each day.  My newest love is biking.  I gave my mountain bike a tune up with a few cool exercise gadgets and LOVE it!  I can't believe how many calories I burn during my 45 minute ride every morning!

The best purchases I've made during this journey are:

  • Great New balance and Under Armour Cross Trainers
  • Treadmill (Christmas gift) which I use on rainy or cold days when I can't get outside.
  • Digital Scale to weigh food
  • Polar Heart Rate Monitor
  • Cyclocomputer for bike
