Welcome to the new over 100 to lose club!
Howdy guys and gals! I'm taking over this club, not because i think i have all the answers (i so know i don't) but because i'm super pumped up right now and motivated to help those people out there who have a lot of weight to lose. we need a place that's more than a "can i join" place.. we need a place to talk about issues related to being this overweight..
Who here needs to lose over 100 pounds? Who needs to lose over 150 pounds? Or more?
I did! I did! And yes.. i did!
A small amount of background on me for those of you who don't know: i am a binge eater. I have had a problem with emotional eating, hidden eating, over eating, eating with a hang nail, eating because i have split ends.. you name it i stuffed my emotions down with the greasiest, nastiest food i could find!
Why did i do that (you might ask)? Because of many many different reasons.. frankly i think it was because this is how i was taught from a young age, this is how we handle stress and emotions. I learned that it's not proper to talk about your feelings.. or god forbid, express your emotions! You have to shove them down with a piece of cake and a smile!
Anyway.. onto the reason for this post.
If you are out there and need to lose a lot of weight.. just like i've got to.. i think we need to have a place where we can discuss these issues with each other and try and work through them together. Because, let's face it, people who are morbidly obese (yes.. i hate that word too) have uniquely different issues to work through and deal with than the average person.
Losing weight, for people who have this much to lose, have to deal with so much more than the formulas to figure out how much to eat.. and exercising. It's more complex than that. We have to deal with years and years of poor eating habits that have to be unlearned, we have to deal with the emotional torment of just being this size, we have to deal with the harsh looks and comments from strangers or from loved ones, we have to deal with our emotions for the first time in our life because we aren't shoving them down our throats anymore..
this is the hardest thing ANYONE has to deal with.. but, from my experience, things are different for us bigguns. :)
also, for those of you who don't know me very well.. (because i've kinda been in hiding and not posting much and there are so many new people out there) i started out in january weighing 324 pounds. I now weigh 232.5.. i have lost 91.5 pounds so far. I am not telling you guys this to get kudos.. i got those yesterday. I'm telling you guys this because i want anyone out there who is struggling with knowing they have, what seems to be, an insurmountable amount of weight to lose, that there is hope.. it IS possible.. you CAN do it.. but it's hard.. and you will hurt.. i know this because i've been there.. i've done it.. and i'm still dealing with it.
so.. come on in and share your stories.. i want to hear them and i want us to support each other until we are all at our goal weight!

I didn't see where obsidyan started a new thread for today, so I'm adding to this already overburdened one.
How's everyone doing today? It's sooooo hot outside today! Don't wanna do anything! Breathing hurts....

YAY!!! betterbe- you've lost so much!!! i'm so proud of you.. :)
hey guys.. i started a new thread today.. check it out!
I will join! I started with C-C.com around May, was trying different methods prior to this and had lost about 15 pounds. Since joining I have dropped around another 20 (down to 268 now), but still have over 120 pounds to lose (was about 305 when I started). Having not seen the negative side of 200 since 20 years ago, I am anxious to see if I can see this milestone by sometime next year, but am taking it slow, crash dieting and losing fast has not worked for me in the past! My main motivation is to get healthier and hopefully rid myself of many medications and a CPAP machine. Curious to know, anyone else dealing with underactive thyroid, and how do you work to get your metabolism revved up? I have been trying to work out every day, but some days just can't motivate. Congratulations to everyone who has succeeded losing 1 pound let alone 100, every bit we lose helps improve our health and reduce our risk factors!!
Hi to all the new folks! Wow! I'm excited there are so many of us in our "Club"! Whoo hoo!
If anyone wants to add me to their friends list, feel free! One of the nicest things about CC and this thread is the support, and I'm more than happy to answer any questions I can and just be a cheerleader to help motivate! Newbies, I'm sure you'll find that lots of 100 Clubbers are like that, and we all look forward to getting to know you better and watch you succeed!! :D
Personally, I've only been on this site since May, officially joining in June, but I've been working on healthy eating and exercise issues a little longer. I had 134 pounds to lose originally but have lost 47 pounds, so I only! have 87 left to go til my goal. Yay!
Purpley, there are a couple of folks who are dealing with similar issues, and I'm sure they'll touch base with you and have lots of good info and suggestions to share. Weekends (from Friday afternoon til Monday morning) there aren't as many of us around or posting, but there will be during the week!
Skinny, I thought you were already part of the "Club" too . . . :)!

I guess I'm one of the new folks here. I am going to shamefully admit that I need to lose 145 more pounds . . . I've already lost 26 since I started June 26.
I have been heavy (ok, you might just say really fat) most of my life. Back in 1994, I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and lost 34 pounds in 7 weeks before it was treated. I was eating more food than I can possibly imagine eating now.
After that was treated, I eventually was found to be hypothyroid (when I was pregnant with my first daughter) and was put on Synthroid. After she was born, I lost 75 pounds but gained most of it back. I had a miscarriage which depressed me, then I got pregnant and had a 10 pound baby (gained a lot with that pregnancy too). I knew after he was born that my thyroid levels were off but was so ashamed of the weight I had gained, I wouldn't go to the doctor. I gained another 50 pounds after he was born.
Three years ago, I restarted the Weigh Down program where I had lost 75 pounds. I started walking every day and was doing great for a few weeks. Unfortunately, I got pregnant with my third and ended up with an ear infection that caused vertigo. It kept me from walking for a week and I couldn't get back into it after that. I lost weight during that pregnancy and after too . . . but then gained it all back and then some.
At 37, I am now the fattest I have ever been in my life and mortified. A few months ago, I was watching a show on TV about fat people and it showed them unable to get out of bed. I decided I didn't want to be that person. That week I told my husband that I didn't want him to bring me food anymore--if I couldn't get up and get it myself, I didn't need it. I still continued to eat too much for a few more weeks. One day, in the cafeteria at work, I was going to buy a sandwich - sausage, egg and cheese on a bagel. I started thinking about how much I was actually eating and convinced myself that I wasn't eating "that much". I went looking for how many calories there were in one of those sandwiches and found this website. I started using the website that day.
I started walking regularly two weeks later. I can now walk 3+ miles per hour . . . and can walk for more than 5 minutes without being out of breath.
I'm frustrated because I haven't lost much weight in the last week. Being a woman can sometimes be tough. I decided to try the forums because I was beginning to get too frustrated and I don't want to give up.
The one piece of really good news is that my husband is using it too. He only has a few pounds to lose but he's paying a lot more attention to what he's eating which is good becuase he has high BP and a huge family history of heart problems.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone. sorry for my book.
Pam

Hi Pam!
THERE IS NO SHAME!!!! Every person here is here because they're in the same boat. I hate to hear that you're mortified (even though I use that word frequently about myself), but you're hear, so you're moving in the right direction! The forums here are great, and there are sooo many people who've done sooo well here that it truly is an inspiration - if they can do it, dammit, so can I!!!
Hi wtver!! I've officially been here a week and a half, and haven't lost a thing! But I'm exercising & eating healthier, and am hoping that if I keep it up, it'll start to come off. That's what everyone here says, so I'll keep going with that!
Hi purpley! Congrats on your loss so far!! Lifting weights gives your metabolism a serious boost - the effects last a good long while even after you're done working out. So, alternate aerobic days with lifting days, and that will help. {{Sitting here wondering why I don't take my own advice.... :)}
I can't wait until it cools off some outside so I can start walking again! Oh, how I miss walking!
Hi to anyone else I missed!!!

Welcome Pam!!!
I don't have kids, but I know about the constant going up and down with the weight. Your not alone, so don't give up!!!! Congratulations to you for making such huge and positive changes in your life and your husbands life.
My docs say I have Hypothyroid too. I was taking meds (synthroid, levexal (sp? not the BCP), but I didn't loose any weight at all. I started noticing that when I would forget to take the meds that I actually felt better, so (I know this is bad, which is why I am making an appointment with my doc this week) I stopped taking them. And for the last year I have felt great. Now that I am exercising and stuff, I am starting to feel that run down feeling again, my weight loss is very slow and a whole lot of other symptoms are starting to show up again. :( I know my doc is going to give me a good a$% kicking for it. My doc is the same age as my so it is more of a brother (with a med degree)/sister type relationship :)
The whole point of this ramble was to say your not alone. :)

Hey... I want to join!
I've got 117 lbs. to lose! I'm in! I've been athletic all my life and always very active, but in the last five years since my divorce I've lost 40 lbs and gained 52.... jeeeeez! BUT... I can't tell you the encouragement I feel on this site! I know that many aren't religious, but it's a God-thing that I found a "losing weight family"! The support without talking to any of you has already been encouraging! I can't wait to commiserate with many of you over the next several months!
Happy Monday!

welcome to the club bstillnw8!
I've found CC to be incredibly supporting, from little tiny things to huge successes. The boards see through the small roadblocks and large plateaus. Not to mention, seeing what everone else is doing motivates me to do more to help myself.
This is a wonderful site, I'm glad you found it, and welcome.

Hi everyone! I am officially joining this thread, although I've been reading it and havent posted. i have over 100lbs to loose- how much over I'm not sure. my first goal is to loose the first 100, then see what happens. In my wildest dreams i'd like to get down to 145- which would mean I'd have 155 lbs to go- so thinking about that is daunghting. Heck- thinking of loosing 100 is overwhelming also. So I'm just trying to take things 1 day and 5 pounds at a time!
Hi all. losing a hundred pounds...yes that is what I am doing. Lost 10 and have more to go. Anybody going to the conference in Las Vegas? We could have a over 100 group meet.
Thanks for the welcome!! It really is nice to know I'm not alone. I know so few people that are as large as I am. It's so nice to see the scale going down . . . I can't believe how much progress I've made. I didn't put the weight on overnight and I shouldn't expect it to come off overnight but that's how I want it to happen. :)
To matisse7: what conference in Las Vegas??

bgc3 - I know how you feel about the whole amount you have to lose being daunting. I have been setting mini-goals in my mind to help keep me motivated. The first one was a loss of only 6 pounds . .. my second was at about 16 pounds . . . and I'm only 4 pounds away from my third (30 pounds). I haven't told anyone that I'm doing this and I'm hoping that people start to notice soon. My Mom is coming to my house for the weekend and I'm really hoping that she will notice. I was eating differently last time I was there, but she didn't notice that.
I called my doctor today to set up a physical as I'm overdue. I can't get in until October but it gives me 10 more weeks to lose more weight. I'm so excited to be going and actually have lost weight and be doing something about getting in shape.
I can't help but feel really excited!!!
