Welcome to your 30's and lets talk

Quote  |  Reply

So I have seen teen, 20's, 40's, 50's and beyond, but no 30's group.  So would anybody like to get something started?  Not sure where to begin hmmmm

I guess being in our thirties our metabolism has not hit a wall just yet, but it certainly isn't what it was in the 20's.  Don't you miss those days?  Anything you want and as long as you did maybe one sport in high school, then no worries.  Ohwell on to real life where nothing seems to be on schedule.

Let hear your thoughts.

1aprilfool, Congrats on your weight loss so far and running 30minutes straight! Thats fabulous!

Thanks!  Now I just need for that accomplishment to show up on the scale.  :o)

1aprilfool, I'm sure it will come! I'm the same way.. that darn number on the scale just cant seem to scoot down fast enough!! I need more patience, and maybe to stop stepping on it so much, but I just have to look!

Hey Everyone - I'd like to join the 30's group too! I'll be 33 in September, I just got serious about losing weight. I'm 5/7 adn weigh 240 Embarassed. My goal weight is about 140/145. I have a long way to go. I lost about twenty pounds after I quit smoking 2 years ago (I know that's kinda backwards) but have gained it back and then some Surprised double yuck :~( . . . Anyway, I'm looking forward to losing weight and getting to know and support you guys in your goals! Hope to be talking to ya'll very soon!

Ladies, don't you just love being in your 30s?!  I am really enjoying it, I am a lot more confident and less worried about what everybody else thinks of me, just... different.  It has really amazed me and I'm loving every minute!

What is everyone else doing for exercise?

CO_Sunshine, I do love being in my 30's - I started counting down to my 30th b-day at the age of 25 - I had a plan to get my life together by my 30th. I'm happy to report that for the most part I did. I went back to college to complete a degree (still in progress) I quit smoking that year and a lot of other things besides. Now I just need to focus on losing weight and getting healthy!!

I haven't decided on what exercise to do yet. I need to start slowly b/c I haven't exercised in years! Mostly I just try to add walking distances to my daily routine - park the furthest away from the builing, take the stairs, and any thing else I can manage.

welcome ticklemekristi! walking is a great way to start! I've been slowing accumulating a dvd collection of workouts, and I find that helps- follow a routine and learn proper form on moves.. I had no idea where to start either! Congrats on getting back to school- what are you going for? I plan to go back this fall, and havent really decided what for yet, but I aim to get a degree and a great career by the time I am 40! Have you started eating healthier, too? I hear that diet is more important than exercise- for weight loss anyway, maybe exercise would be the biggy for building muscle- which I hope to do eventually!  and good for you quitting smoking! thats great!

Me too!  It calls to me like a jilted lover if I don't visit it at least twice per week.  I do believe there are stalking laws in California.  :0)

I have resolved, today, to only weigh myself once per month.  I'm having my husband hide that blasted thing until then.

1aprilfool, wow, you do lots better than me.. I usually step on at least 3 times a day! lol.. I think I need to consider removing my scale from the bathroom floor to the cabinet, so I have to take it out when I use it!

Wow, 1aprilfool, that is good! I limit my scale interactions to once a week, but I must confess, like wendyb27, that I tend to get on it every other day or so - but I faithfully log my Friday weight, good or bad :P Love the stalking comment.

catbuckleychan, that is one industrious kitty! I never thought of using cactus as a deterrent - makes perfect sense!

hi  to everyone else!

I want to join too!  I am 32, 5'4", and started my weight loss quest about two months ago.  I started off at 196 (the highest I've ever weighed without being 9 months pregnant)  and as of last week, I was down to 178!  I weigh in tonight again, so I'll see how much progress I've made this week.  I was always naturally thin, until I had my second child, and then blew up like a balloon!  It has been very motivating to see the progress though, and although I was always 125-130lbs without having to diet or work out, I have set my goal weight at 140.  My husband is afraid I will lose all my rump-a-dump if I go any lower than 140.Laughing

I've been doing martial arts for 25 years (intermittently with breaks), a friend of mine wanted to find a judo class for adults in our town, so after looking we ended up at a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu studio.  We tried it and I stayed with it, she went off to college.  I've been doing the BJJ since August 2007, there's also a judo club there that I occasionally do since there's no extra fee. I've cut back drastically on my aikido which is unfortunate, but the BJJ has a lot more classes and it's 20 miles closer to my home and work so I spend a lot less time and money commuting.  For women, doing martial arts can be intimidating.  I'd recommend just starting and sticking with it for at least a year before you decide it's not for you.  It takes time both for the guys to get to know you since typically there's not more than one woman at that type of sport and for you to get to know them and to learn the techniques well enough to apply them.

Ballroom dancing I've been doing for about 20 years (again intermittently and mostly social), for a while I was taking classes in a variety of dances.  Recently I've fallen in love with Argentine Tango so I'm taking classes twice a week and attending one dance and then depending on how much time I have in my schedule I also dance salsa or other dances locally.  I have a fairly consistent dance partner that has convinced me to do some competitions which is fun as long as you're not set on winning (we've done well in some).

Welcome, and congrats to all your success. You are going to get over this hump. Take baby steps. And find your fit. You will get to where you want to be in now time...

Hi everybody! smwhipple, I've always wanted to try martial arts. But, like you said, I find it intimidating. I did meet with a sensei (is that correct?) to discuss beginning in martial arts many years ago, but he went on and on about personal hygiene and that made me wonder if I smelled or something. :o) It's very motivating to hear of women such as yourself kicking butt and taking names (in the nicest way of course). I hope everyone has a terrific weekend.

Girl6! Congrats on your weight loss.  All men are afraid of us women losing the junk in the truck. My boyfriend want have to worry about me losing any.. I've been blessed with a little too much rump. All through highschool. I was called Big Booty Lynn!.   Last fall I took my boyfriend to a class mate birthday party, and guess what he heard.. BIG Booty Lynn, I will never get a break from that nickname. I'm going for 145 myself, and I got 14 pounds to go before I reach it. The junk is still back there, but! I've tone it up.  Just tone the junk, because he don't have to worry. You will never lose it.

Stevis78! He's not going to play any Hockey. What he is planing on doing is going back into weight lifting as well. My boyfriend is 190, and he is thinking about losing just 20lbs. He can do it. He always hops on my back for a piggy back ride.. I was like.. Man... You got to lay off the burger's.. I can't carry you around like I use too.  He's okay. I can still piggy back him, but the extra weight is a killer.

Daizymae! I have 6 dogs, and I love them so much. I love all animals. I would love to have a kitty, but my dogs will never let that happen. I have a Betta Too named big red. I don't think he would be living if I kitty got to him.

Smwhipple! Martial Arts! WOW! I'm sure people think twice before they yell at you. My brother's thinks twice before they yell at me. I love to box. That's another great workout by the way. My legs are too short for kickboxing, but I do give it one hell of a go at it at the gym. That's what my boyfriend loves to do at the gym. He loves the kick boxing class.

Wendy! Congrats on your weight loss.. CONGRATS! Keep up the good work. I am going to post more pic in a week or two. I just have to get my boyfriend to take them. I tried a few weeks ago, but they always make me laugh, and then I start to make that mean face I hate.

wow wow wow look at all the people.  Welcome to everyone.  Thank you for the protien advice.  I do eat meat, but most days that protein meter hovers at 60 or so.  Found some protein bars today, they look yummy.  I am going to keep an eye for the high protein yogurt though.

Welcome girl6.. you and I have very similar stats.. I am 34, 5'4" and started at CC at 186 (when I got my scale).. but I am almost sure I was over 190 this past winter! I too started my weight gain with my pregnancies.. just seemed to get a little heavier each time! lol..rump-a-dump! Great job so far! What have you been doing for diet/exercise?

I have to take a peek a boo myself from time to time. What I love doing the most now is getting my measurements. I am now ( drum roll please :D)
36/29/44, and that's a long way from my start. 40/39/53 a year ago...

Just keep the focus, and when the scale starts to give you problems.. Get that measuring tape out, and measure your success.

smwhipple,  25 years! you must be an expert.. probably could teach the classes by now! I am considering taking some type of martial arts classes once I drop a bunch of the fat and am ready to start building some muscles! The dancing sounds fun! I would like to do that too someday, I'm a little apprehensive about that though because I am really quite uncoordinated and I think I was born with 2 left feet!

lynnhaslost, Big Booty Lynn! that is a hoot! That is so funny that you can give your bf a piggy back ride! My husband would just about die if I could do that- he is a foot taller than me (and there is no way I am strong enough to pick him up yet!) and 6 dogs! holy cow! what kinds are they? I have 2 dogs- a boston terrier(Oreo) and a french bulldog (Spike).. they are both pretty small, but I love them to death too..Is a Betta Too a bird?  Thanks for your congrats!

Yeah, look at what you have done.. This is a wonderful Thread. I think this is the best one yet. I love them all, but this one is my fav! I love to come here to see who's chatting up some good talk and advice.. This thread will hold us all accountable for what we need to be doing. The highest yogurt protein I've found so far has 5 grams of protein, and it made by Dannon Light and fit 60 cals, and no fat what so EVER! No added sugar.. You have to love that... It's great. I'm snacking on one now..

lynnhaslost, Awesome measurements!! thats 23" altogether.. I would love to shrink my waist 10 inches!

I have 1 full blooded PIT, and his name is Boomer I have one Jack Russell Terrier, and her name is Bay She had puppies, only 4, and we gave one away, and my kids wanted to keep the rest. 2 boys, and 1 girl.. Tweety G- Demon B- Shy-B, and then we have a big mixed dog. He has bull mixed, hound, and something else, and I don't know what to think of him. But his name is BoBo. I had another girl dog, and I named her faith. We gave her to my uncle. How did we come up with so many dogs. Well! I see people toss them out at the corner when they are puppies, and we just take them in. My PIT! was my 29th birthday gift from my boyfriend. I walk him every day. He got him so he can go walking with me.. He didn't like me walking alone.  Oh! Then I have my cousin's DOG Lou, he never wants to stay home. So he always breaks out and come visit my dogs.

OH! And my boyfriend loves the piggy back rides. He always try to hope on my back in the stores, and I have to tell him to get off of my back.  I'm 5 even, and he is 5'11. That's a tall man, and I always think I should drop him. Maybe he will stop hopping on my back.
