Hey, I'm not really a member of this paticular topic but I have a question, who doesn't.  Does anyone here do South Beach, especially with the recent changes and try to stay within their calorie goal?

Let me know.  I tried South Beach before and was down 5 pounds in 5 days.  Crazy stuff, but hard.  Trying to make the commitment, and make it work again.

Wecome Jenn! I have to admit I haven't seen the recent changes. What's different? Well, I haven't always stuck to the letter of SB 100% anyway. But I do stick to the spirit of it and stay away from bad carbs, eat lots of veggies, low-fat dairy, lean meat and whole grains. I'm perfectly happy to eat this way for the rest of my life. That's the only way it'll really work. 32 lbs lost since April but have plateaued since Nov due to the holidays. . .

I wanted to share a recipe I just made tonight that was really good! Eggplant Lasagna. I split it into 4 portions at 558 cals/each but could be split into 6 for a lower calorie count. I posted it in the recipe forum:

Good night!

hi jayne... hi sarah... and a big hello to everyone else also....

wish you all a happy new year... am doing gr8... down to 160 lbs... and did not gain in spite of eating this weekend... finally have managed to get my metabolic cycle in its place... :)

dance practice still going on... wedding only a few weeks away now...

c ya all later... just dropped in to say hi... an update my weight... :)

Morning all!!

How is everyone doing today??  How was the weekend??

Morning Morning.   The scale is in my good graces today..  Slept a little late today.   Hi Shruti long time no see. Glad you stopped by to say hi.  Was thinking about you the other day and wondering where you had been for so long.  160 is awesome way to go!!!!!!  The wedding sounds fun not to mention the dancing too.

Hi JJ  I count cals whle doing phase two.  NOrmally I dont have a problem with the plan.  though desserts are still my weakness.  I just cant have them around much LOL.  I think its pretty a sensible way to eat.

Hi sharron thats recipe looks great.. my next stop is the recipe forum.  After I get some coffee anyways.

Hiya gina doing great this morning.  Im keeping my weight a secret for thursday cause its so good.
Was that shruti who just rant thru here?  Cant wait to see more of her but glad she stopped in!

Jenn, the hard phase of your first 5 days eases up after the end of the first 2 week and that may help with making the commitment.  I also am not 100% loyal Sharon, needing more work on my veg intake but I embrace the ideas and do my best.  Your recipe reminds me of a healthy eggplant parmisign too.

Sarah, the girl of mystery, good going and youve still days to weigh in.  Hang onto it and keep doing what youre doing - it working for you :D!

My walking Alice brought her adult step daughter with her.  Ten yrs younger then me and just under my weight, walks fine but has fatty liver disease and but cholestrol.  Im so fortunate not to have such conditions as I should but felt for the girl because she doesnt care about it and came because Alice did.  I hope I was a sign of what could happen with continued gaining.

Counseling today.  Frustrating how Kiki and dad make arrangements without consulting me and 16 is old enough to keep track of a few things.  They left her meds at his house for when he picks her up which he cant and although I reminded her Saturday of appointment, guess what two people are mad at me (since she wants to go with him and he'll have to make second trip for meds).  Whatever - but good topic for counseling :D.
got a little walk in this morning so Yeah Im keeping up with it.  was thinking back to prior posts that talked about new fat and how its easier to lose.  Im glad thats true so far.  Still havent had breakfast and cant decide what I want.  I dont want to cook cause that means more dishes. going to go rummage through the fridge...hope everyone stays on track today.
hey everyone.

Lost internet connection at my apartment for the past few days so i have been away. Still sticking to no carbs but i did share a peiece of apple pie with my boyfriend this weekend when we went to a desert place for coffee. i figure i have been good and im not going to torture myself. I want to make sure i stay on this road so having a little something bad once is a while is something i might allow myself.

The scale is still not going down though.last week i started to get fed up with the food that i made myself and wanted no part of it. my method then was just to not eat. yeah i know thats not healthy and it put me in a horrible mood i just didn't want to eat something bad. I feel like that probably messed up any loss. I made much better food this week so hopefully i wont have any problems. has anyone else made the mock mash potatoes? i LOVE them. also attempted to make spaghetti squash. I tried a few bites last night and it was pretty yummy.

Hope everyone is having a good monday =)
I made that spaghetti squash thing,  then filled it with  tomato sauce and lean hamburger and baked it some more ...came out delish I honestly thought I was eating pasta.  Think its a mental thing.  Making shrimp Etouffee tonight and trying to think of some way to get around the rice thing.  any Ideas?  The stuff is to potent to eat by its self.

Thanks for all of the wonderful replies.  I'm going to try it again.  What I meant by recent changes was the new list that includes 2-3 servings of lowfat milk, legumes, yogurt etc.  I can't imagine it would work as well as the original plan....BUT being that my biggest fear is weight gain by shoveling whatever carbs I can get into my mouth simply because I gave up scares me.  I will follow the plan loosely.  Lots of protein, my milk, and good carbs, especially my all bran and oatmeal.

I'm figuring if I stick to that maybe I could stop with the sweet kick.  Thanks again, I will definately be checking in often.

Jenna - funny, I just got some cauliflower this weekend because it had been to long since I'd had my mashed treat.  Low cals definitely affect me - my first stall in weight loss is when I started playing with too low calories.

Great to have you Jen - hope those sweet cravings drop, I know my carb craving certainly did with the help of phase1.

Sarah, all I could think for the etouffe was cauliflower - is it the white thing maybe?  I was thinking separately, kind of like a chaser with the hot hot.
Actually thats a really good idea that would probably be a good side. I add some slices 2% cheese and a little riccota to mine it makes them very delsih.

Maybe you could try the sherataki (spelling?) noodles?
Morning and a happy tuesday to all.   hows everyone doing?
Yikes, just before your post brought this thread to the front page Sarah I want to page 2 of the forum.  We must have slipped by each other because I got thru page 8 thinking it had disappearred!  Came back to one and there you were at the top.

What a temp adjustment Rachael!  Bundle up well heading out today :D.

I had counseling day wrong yesterday - its today, but sat there because its a big deal to miss an appt.  If we miss one, she cant charge the insurance company  so instead of a $25 copay, I would have to pay entire $125 (and thats not even being there).  This is got me paranoid - good thing Ive got a counselor (or is it a vicious circle LOL).  Found appt card - its this afternoon.

Yesterday walked 3/10ths mark, so coming back put me at 6/10 - over 1/2 mile.  Granted there's my crutch and many stop breaks but its about 30 minutes, a number I hear for daily exercise.  I know its not constant with my stops but Ive not choice physically.  I found a sedentary life listed 2nd on the riskiest behaviors, just under smoking.  Getting a new pair of knees would help :P
I could use some new body parts too LOL.  I have a fresh pumpkin pie sitting in my fridge that Im dying to eat.  I got recipe from hungry girl.  Its supposed to be only 150 cals perslice.  I made it for my dessert at night and and I want to have it for breakfast LOL.  Think Ill have some oatmeal instead!
I used to have pie issues Sarah - cant remember buying one where I didnt have a slice for breakfast.  Flour, milk, sugar, eggs, fruit...... breakfast!  Bad, bad, bad.

Rachael, the calendar has been a godsend for keeping me straight and narrow.  Always a number sitting out there waiting for me.   Got to love swishy loose clothes.  Think its been 15 years since Ive worn pants though (<-- and doesnt that sound weird).
I am thinking about starting SB... I tried it before but only made it 6 days in before I caved (tho I did lose 6 lbs in those 6 days-- yay for water weight!).  Do you all have any advice for starting the first few days?  I am allergic to nuts and dont like fish... dont eat pork either (except bacon LOL.... ).  I'm not sure why I dont eat pork but I just dont really get into it I guess.

My main reason for thinking about SB is that I have PCOS and its likely that a lower carb/lower gi diet would be very beneficial for me.  Also, it appears that sensitivities to gluten run in my family and I would like to see if my skin rashes and stomach issues (and headaches and sleepiness and acne and etc et al ad nauseum) get better if I cut out wheat products or at least reduce them.  My father has been on a low carb diet now for over a year and says that his allergies and stomach issues are much better now that he doesnt eat any bread.  He is much more restrictive than I would like to be however.

I have about 50 lbs to lose to start off-- I had lost thirty and then regained those 30 plus 15 more.  After those 50... well lets just see if I can get there.  I will probably want to lose 20 more from there.  Gosh SO MUCH!  I am basically looking for advice, thoughts, any help from you experienced SB'ers!  I am just not sure that I can eat that much meat and no carrots.....   The first 2 weeks freak me the heck out.  one last q:  how many carbs do you tend to eat in a day?  do you count them?
