Good luck for Monday, LB! I had lulled but just today got a boost so hoping Mondays your 'bump' day.

You'll burn plenty at Mickey's home.  Nuts for protein - absolutely! I also like triscuits because since there made from whole grain and not whole grain flour, it doesnt make me hungrier afterwards.  I would suggest a big breakfast shortly before departing to give you that going in strength.  Hopefully you can time your meals to keep the in between munchies (outside snacks) away but since you'll be burning more, you may want to up the approved snack quantities to avoid filling in with the non approved. Also for meals, seek out the protein - should keep with you longer.

Have a blast and your call on strictness, but if you fear feeling deprived - perhaps allow for a treat to avoid completely caving unless you decide it wont be an issue for one day which is also an option.

Booooo! I was right---I'm up 1.5 pounds as of today. Such a bummer. But boy did I enjoy my phase 2 oatmeal and strawberries this morning! I don't have time in the morning to cook the real oatmeal, so I found Quaker weight control Maple cinnamon flavor, and it was pretty good! I think the calorie to fiber ratio is pretty decent too. Anyone have any suggestions on non-fat, AND sugar free yogurt brands? I can't seem to find any in that combo. They are either full fat and sugar free, or non fat and lots of sugar. Annoying! I do like the greek style yogurt-any thoughts on that kind? There is still sugar in it, but it's low fat and VERY filling!

I'm sticking to this South Beach diet no matter what! I am confident that i will lose more-even if it is slowly. I should defintely try to be more physical -that should help. I'm just soooo lazy!

Im not sure on the yogurt - I lean towards both SF and FF but if forced to choose, SF wins because Im insulin resistant.

Funny you should mention oatmeal - I recently bought from Biglots individual packets and bought 3.  Im carb sensitive so avoided it previously but thinking to give it a try. Theyre non flavored, my preference because Im good at flavoring with splenda and vanilla, cinnamin, pumpkin pie spice or a combo.  Must be great to be bringing on the carbs - watch your reactions though, you'll probably be fine but if youve carb or sugar sensitivity you might observe a hunger response with certain ones.

Your right about the physical. On my 300+ thread we went from Jan 2008 to Jan 2009 so I really pumped up the activity and having a surprising loss this month (almost double).  Stick with us Elbie and dont be surprised if its not so 'slowly' coming off afterall :D!

I'm finally back home:( Had loads of fun with the family for Christmas. Finally weighed myself when I got back this morning,  I was 135, and that was after eating breakfast.

LB- I think Dannon makes a "Carb Light" brand of yogurts that were sweetened with splenda. I used to live on those my first time on SB a few years ago. Give those a try if you can find them... can't remember if they were lowfat or not.

Welcome back, Ice. Looks like you did well on your trip with your weight.

Ive been using my daughters Wii Fitness she left at the house. I like how it focuses on things I hadnt considered like posture (which it determines by weight distribution) ad I tend to lean forward due to my back and apparantly favor one leg. Also it weighs you and keeps BMI, plus charts. I like the step activity and today beat her and her friend scores (their 17 yrs old) - mama can dance :P.  Actually, its not just getting the steps but also timing.  Its as addictive as hell and one of those "This is exercise?" fun things.

Five weeks until my Feb 6th trip and kicked arse this month. Looks like Im down 20 lbs, thats double my 10-12 norm. May be a tough month January as a result but Im going in fighting.  Might be a struggle to just lose my normal as a rebound but no excuses and shooting high anyway with my trip date pending.

Activity was a huge part so will have to keep that up. When I returned from my walking Vegas vacation, my big drop was followed by a serious plateau. Hoping being proactive could avoid that.

Thanks Sun! Still at 135 as of this morning, but I'm trying to look on the bright side...it could be worse- I could have gained alot over the holidays with all the goodies I had. My regular daily water intake was almost none existent last week and a half, as I had started drinking juice, etc. Back to chugging water and trying to reduce my carbs to see if I can finally get past the 133 mark.

Got back to the gym yesterday and it felt good. Finally running just over 2 miles without dying, so I'm hoping to be able to complete that 5k at the end of January.

Happy new year, everyone! Best wishes for 2009!

Happy New Year to all! I've had a rough couple of days as I learned that an old friend is in the hospital on life support (he overdosed on drugs at a "holiday" party). I'm super sad, and angry. This is something I predicted for him a LONG time ago. I thought he turned himself around, and stopped hanging out with that crowd of people, but he didn't. I've been anxiously awaiting updates from friends back home about his progress, via facebook and emails. It's a hard time for me, because I know if I was in town, I would be there to support his friends and family. In a sense I sort of feel like I am missing something, as the old college crew is gathering in Baltimore--The Big Chill style.

Thanks to my stress I had a strong urge to do some emotional eating. Somehow I held steady. I think the decent size dinner helped---and I only had a pudding after dinner. I'm actually super hungry now (lunchtime) as I forgot to pack a snack-and I ate cereal for the first time this morning (Kashi Go Lean).

Congrats to all for maintaining or losing during the holiday season! (oh and sorry for the bummer post)

Happy New Year Everyone!!

elbie518 - I am sorry to hear about your friend.  I hope things get better!

Ice - glad you got at least one of your classes, here is to wishing you get into the one you need!

Sun - Wii's are so addictive, I am thinking of getting one just for the exercise factor.  It is good fun and good exercise and you dont have to go out if the weather is bad so it is a good activity for bad weather days or days you just dont want to go outside.

I have no idea where my weight is at because I have had a horrible cold since right before christmas and I am just now starting to feel alittle better which is good because it is back to school on Monday.  So I have not been on the scale in two weeks and probably wont till at least next week when I back to feeling 100%

{{{Elbie}}}
What a horrible thing for your friend to be going through and can just imagine how hard this is on you! I can understand how frustrating that could be, with you not there local and not sure how you managed to avoid the comfort food but it certainly wouldve been understandable.  Thoughts to you!  I also had a strong reaction with carbs at breakfast and no apologies for your post - appreciate you letting us know.

Velvet - heres to your strength returning. Sickness can be such a beating.

My thursday weigh in is 220.8 and still startling even if I was pushing for more.  Thats better than my 400+ losing months.  2008 has been an amazing year I'd hoped for but still couldnt have imagined.  I came in having hit my 100 lb goal at 365, on cloud nine but didnt know what progress was ahead and feeling very fortunate to find myself here in having stayed the course with incredible thanks to South Beach and to yourselves and my 300+ thread pals.

My sister, who travels much for her job, yesterday phoned to say she had a layover in Dallas tonight. I'd previously said I'd like to catch her at the airport if there was ever time which is why she let me know. I asked how long and she said a while.  Ha! I know my sister - she is so detail oriented and never would say, '.. a while" so I called her out! Your staying arent you!! Um .. yeah ... She is horrible at surprising me - doesnt want me fussing plus likes the surprise but thankfully I caught it because I desperately needed this time to pull the housee together (and it will only be at my still low level of orderly).

Pumped about seeing her again. Saw her June in Vegas but that was 80 lbs ago although she did see my Thanksgiving photo.  It will be rough because she's hating and not very tolerant on my smoking. Also Ive not run the heat and she's cold blooded so will accommodate her but my bank account's a wee bit concerned.  Also will have to stop at the grocery store as I keep my house not only South Beach clean but I stick a limited number of items.  That aside, my sisters coming !!

Happy New Year all !

Sun - have fun with your sisters visit and yes having a cold can be very draining.

Wow very quiet!  I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Im having a great time Velvet! Last night we went out to eat. We ended up splitting a dinner platter and although there were foods I would not normally touch, they also are my fav and again we each ate half. The best was the crab cake - the make the best Ive had although we were able to get it (along with the rest of the seafood grilled). Probably still was sinful considering what it was but worth every calorie. Easily moved on to today back to normal eating.

May take a hit on my weight but if so, expecting it to be very temporary. Got the Wii to work at it too.

Hope we're all doing well with our new year start !!

Hi all-

I'm new to South Beach Diet, and I hope you aren't mad I'm trying to join the group when I don't have the same needs as some others.  My current stats are:

Height: 5'2"

Weight at start: 128 lbs

Current weight: 126.5 lbs

Goal weight:  110 lb

I did this diet for about a week and a half in late December, but then totally screwed it up during the Holidays.  I'm back on it now for the 3rd day, and already see results (though it's probably water-weight).  Although I don't intend to lose a dramatic amount of weight, I still have been struggling with dieting all year.  Growing up, I was excessively underweight, graduating from high school at 87 lbs.  All doctors thought I had an eating disorder, but I didn't, just an extremely fast metabolism.  During sophomore year at college, I put on a healthy 13 lbs, which I was thrilled with...only now it's not stopping.  I'm 29 years old and have been yo-yoing with my weight for a year and a half- getting down to 113 lbs and back up to 128 again.  For 2008, I was never able to get under 117 lbs.  I am definitely an emotional eater, and moved to Florida to be with my boyfriend in June 2007, leaving all my friends behind, and starting a new job here.  It's been stressful and lonely, but I do like it here.  It's definitely caused me to snack more, especially late night, where I can put down a whole bottle of wine and an extra meal (or 2).  I don't look good at this weight- and I really hope no one judges me just because I don't need to lose 50 lbs or more- but I really need help pushing along with this diet.  I am a carb fiend, and growing up, I was used to eating anything I wanted at any time, so this is a huge change for me.  My Mom is overweight, at 5'1" and 175 lbs, and I want to try to get a handle on my weight now before I gain any more.  I guess I'm just looking for some coaching when things get rough and a group I can identify with....hopefully, you'll accept me in.  Oh, and also, I HATE going to the gym, have never been athletic, and am struggling with being unemployed right now (lost my job 2 months ago) so it's even harder to lose weight no matter how many calories I count because I'm not very active.

I'm not trying to whine or make anyone feel sorry for me, because I know others have situations much harder than mine- I'm just painting the picture so everyone knows what my situation is.  Also, when I started the South Beach diet in December, I got a really bad headache the 5th and 6th day of the diet, and then again yesterday on day 2.  Any ideas why this might happen?

Thanks for any and all advice...Lisa

Sun - I am glad your having a great visit, it is always nice to see family.  The dinner sounds like you had a good time and we have to indulge every once and awhile.  I think it is what makes staying on our way of eating possible knowing that on special events we can have alittle of sinful treats.

Sunshinelisa - Welcome to the group!  I think you will like it here.  Also the headache sometimes is called the South Beach Flu, it is from cutting out carbs and sugars, especially if your a carb feind.

Sunshine, so glad youve joined us!! Where are you in FL - I was in tampa/st pete for 10 years but came to TX in '88 (leaving all my friends behind too but to find work).  I was a carb fiend - protien was like a condiment to me.  Not just because of the diet but also because of how protien (versus carbs) make me feel, I always reach for it first now.  This thread has been great support when Ive needed support. Thinking the SB headache will pass as the adjustment settles and happy for your loss.  Even water weight/ bloating can be felt and on myself, seen so always great when that goes too!

Velvet, hoping your strength is continuing to return and you'll feel better for the start of school again!

Hi Velvet- Thanks for the warm welcome!  I truly appreciate it, and good to know about the South Beach Flu- it makes me feel like there's a light at the end of the tunnel.  And yes, I truly WAS a carb and sugar junkie.

Hi Sun- Also, thanks for the warm welcome!  I'm in sunny Orlando, and couldn't be happier because I'm close to beaches and Disney World, so it's fab.  I had another successful day, and have 2 job interviews coming up this week- so keep your fingers crossed!

Visited my Mom (a retired nurse practitioner)  today and she said the headaches might also be stress-related, since they always come about in the shoulder area and are tension based.  But, it's probably a combo of both reasons.

Anyway- on to day 6!!

Hi Friends,

Well-it is unfortunate, but my friend passed away on New Years Day. He really did live a life that was very full, and while it is sad, the doctors were able to help save 7 other people with his organs. He would be happy knowing that he was able to help people after all. I will be heading home later this week for the funeral, so I will get to hang with the old college crew and reminisce properly with my old friends.

That being said-today is my first anniversary with the hubs. We spent the weekend at Disney, and I honestly think my feet are broken from all the walking. However, thanks to all that walking, I was able to keep off weight that otherwise would have been gained due to that gross food they serve at those parks. To be fair, Epcot has some pretty decent food, but the rest was garbage. I did cheat, and it was heaven. I had a couple bites of chocolate/peanut butter fudge, a bit of pizza, and I ate bread at dinner! IT WAS AMAZING. Seriously, bread is like eating cake.

But back to work on South Beach!!! I was lucky to weigh in at 143 today-I am officially 5 pounds down from my start. I'll take it!

Glad to hear everyone is doing well...welcome Sunshine Lisa! I think that makes 3 of us Floridians here. I totally get your frustrations about your weight. I know it is tough when you are unemployed and there is nothing better to do than snack, but instead, drink a glass of crystal lite, or hot tea. OR-with all that time on your hands, go for a walk-even a short one. The weather is fantastic!

Keep up the good work everyone!

LB

Hi all-

Elbie: I am very sorry to hear about your loss.  I hope you take some comfort in the fact that he will be helping others to lead healthier lives- what an angel.

I wanted to ask- you say the food in Epcot is garbage, and I say: you're eating in the wrong places!!  Epcot is one of my fav places to eat/drink...and that's why I haven't gone in a month, haha!  Do you snack, or go for meals? I think the Canada, Japan (Tokyo Dining), France (bottom level), Germany, and Morrocan (but avoid the couscous, South Beacher) restaurants are fantastic.  I'm a Disney fanatic, and can happily advise you other places to eat in the Disney area.  Also- CONGRATS on the marriage!

All: I wanted to ask all of you about some symptoms that I'm experiencing.  Today I have nooo energy, am listless, mild body pain, and just feel generally worn out.  I've already had breakfast and lunch, and am not hungry, and had 9 hrs of sleep last night.  I experienced some exhaustion yesterday, but it seems to be getting worse.  Any idea why I feel like this/how to make it better?

Thanks!!

Elbie: Figured out that you said the food in the OTHER parks was garbage.  Here's a quick cheat-sheet for you:

Magic Kingdom: Crystal Palace buffet or the Columbia Harbor House (near Haunted Mansion) both have good food.

Hollywood Studios: 50s Prime-Time Cafe and Brown Derby are both good--better yet, walk to the nearby hotels and eat there- the Brewing Co at the Boardwalk has a fantastic goat-cheese salad, and the buffet at the Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club is to die for!

Animal Kingdom: Rainforest Cafe isn't bad....the Tusker House used to be good, but now it's a buffet and I haven't tried it.

Top restaurants in Disney, outside: California Grill (Contemporary), Cape May Buffet (Beach Club), O'Hanas (Polynesian), Citricos (Grand Floridian), Boma (Animal Kingdom Lodge), and an Italian restaurant in the Swan or Dolphin that I forget the name of, are all worth eating at.

My fav restaurant in Orlando is Roy's Hawaiian Fusion on Sand Lake Road- but it's expensive so save it for a special occassion.

Hello ladies,

I'm been MIA for a while. After we got back from my brother's for Christmas, my in-laws suddenly decided they wanted to come spend some with us, (I think they got jealous) so things have been a little hectic trying to accommodate them for the unexpected visit. They should be here til Saturday, so things will get back to "normal" in a few days.

I got one of the classes I needed, but had to go to a different school. I won't have access to the gym since I'm no longer taking classes at my school, unless I pay $25/month. Training for that 5k at the end of this month is gonna be difficult, but I've decided to try to make it anyway by running around my community.  On the bright side, my husband and I will have a little more time to ourselves as we're only taking 1 class this semester.

Sunshine- welcome to the group. Good to see another Floridian:) Try eating more calorie dense SB friendly foods (nuts, cheese, milk) , hopefully that will help with the headaches.

Sun- glad you had fun visiting your sister. You've worked so hard to get where you are, you deserve the break.

Elbie- happy anniversary, and sorry to hear about your friend. It's hard to lose someone close, but they say it gets easier with time (I'm still waiting...)

Velvet- have a great semester! Class officially starts on Wednesday for me, so it's back to the grind.

Have a great week, everyone! I'll try to check in more often...we'll see how it goes with the in-lawsUndecided.
