{{Elbie}} Sorry about your firend. What a wonderful gift he gave to those donor recipients. Disney can really be marathon work but think of treats that you enjoyed and burned anyway. Great, I mean delicious compromise LOL.
sunshine, I wonder if thats an energy drop due to the phase1 carb reduction but it actually sounds like an onset of getting sick, although I of course hope Im wrong. Carbs are energy food and the strictness of phase1 could be felt more strongly, depending on how active one normally is used to. Interesting list of options for Disney - I used to know the place like the back of my hand, living Tampa 10 years but that was 20 yrs ago and its a bit of a blur now. Droped my sis at the airport tonight - she's bound for her FL home.
Ive missed you Ice but know the feeling - my sis popped in new years day. Ive barely had a free moment til tonight. Mine was also unexpected - she says she doesnt like me going crazy cleaning for her arrival but Im going to do it anyway and the no notice means I end up wasting the beginning of her arrival cleaning instead of in advance. I luckily know her well so when she said could I come to the airport for her supposed layover but didnt reply to my request for how long, I KNEW something was up - she is one to give too many details so she gave herself away. Course she left making my house cleaner than she arrived and no complaints here LOL.
Im very cheap so hate the idea of paying to exercise and loving that idea of preparing for running locally free. Hoping you and hubby enjoy that extra time this semester!
Thank you Sunshine for the great list of choices at Disney etc. I did enjoy the food at Epcot-we ate at the Moroccan place and it was expensive but worth it! By garbage I meant junk food. Burgers, hot dogs, fries, pizza, pretzels, popcorn, etc etc-which don't get me wrong-I LOVE...just not on South Beach :( It is possible your yucky feelings might be you are just not eating enough. On my first week, I was worried I wasn't eating enough calories overall. You should maybe increase your portion sizes, or add in extra cheese or beans to your salad, have a bigger piece of protein with your meals. If you need a sweet fix-try the sugar free york peppermint patties or Reese's peanut butter cups-each one has about 35 calories, and is a small but "sweet" treat.
Sun-I know what you mean about the cleaning frenzy-my husband is Canadian, which as you might know, means that we get a TON of visitors in FL this time of year. It is as if we are a southern suburb of Montreal and Toronto! So-I just didn't have time last week when his mom came in, so I just called a cleaning service for the first time EVER. It was amazing coming home to a clean house at teh end of teh day...again, expensive but worth it every once in a while.
When I lived in FL, we burned out on going to disney with visitors. I also never hired a cleaning service and more than most could use one LOL. Im just very private and when I travel, I even call to ask them not to clean my room until I check out. I know theyre not 'going through my stuff' but I still kind of feel that way even though theyre just cleaning.
BTW at christmas I saw a box with those SF PB cups and pep patties! I almost got them but thought feared I'd keep picking at them too quickly.
My year end 220 soared to 226 for no clear reason but has gradually dropped and today at 220 (exhales). With Feb 6 trip on the brain, this isnt the time for my body/scale to be playing games. Also tested at cardio dr today. Turns out there is a certain vein that is cause of most faulty vein edema that can be eliminated because its not critical. Have to 'work' towards insurance approval with other methods tried first but most get swelling relief and the removal is done by laser. Optimistic about showing calves possibly again.
Weighin already tomorrow - glad my weight has settled back. Now just to hold onto that!
Alice came by for my Jan2009 photos. Took some Jan 2008 - front, side and back. No secrets with all the angles. She'll be emailing them but feeling good that although Ive a ways to go that there has been progress.
Good eating everyone and best thoughts for tomorrows scale!
Sun- Glad u enjoyed the visit from your sis! It's always nice to see family (even if unexpectedly). And besides- free clean house! Good luck with your weighin tomorrow, I'm sure you'll do great. I don't think I'm getting sick, I think the fatigue & muscle aches are more my body changing from a sugar & carb-high diet, like you suggested.
Elbie- yes, sigh, many junk food choices at Disney, but kudos to you for staying on SB even with all those temptations. I'm eating about 1100-1200 cals a day, which is what this website recommends because I'm so sedentary being unemployed and anti-workout. I currently have sugar-free fudgsicles, sugar-free pudding, sugar-free jellybeans, and sugar-free twizzlers as my sweet treats, but it's getting hard because I find I'm eating two options a day, even if in smaller amounts. This might be because I got my period today though, haha, and have been craving sweets.
I admit it all- I slipped a bit 2 days ago. It involves a platter of cheesecake. I ate one whole slice (made up of bites of all the flavors, of course). The real problem is going to be that my best friend from MA is coming to visit on Sat for a week, and that will involve alcohol. But I will have been on SB for just over 2 weeks by then and will stay good with food, so I hope I don't do too much damage.
Trying to be good has been very hard for the past few days. With the in-laws here, we have been eating out alot; plus there were two birthdays at work this week, so I had a little sliver of cake on Monday and again today.
Still trying to keep up with the running (doing just over 2.5 mi), but that is proving to be hard as well because with school and everything my days are about 13-14 hours long.
Good to see that everyone's is on track and doing well. Keep up the good work:)
I really can appreciate the visitors and eating out. My sis goes so long without eating and then would treat herself eating out so I was usually sitting across from these delicious smelling meals.
I understand your time issues, Ice. Ive switched from walking to Wii but even walking the block twice just took 30 mins and my schedule was pretty open. When your overscheduled, you can easily have to make choices for what you allow time for. My friend walks for an hour and its a struggle because she always has things she's not getting to already.
Sunshine, the saving grace is with SF the cals can be forgiving. Even doubling up sometimes on SF fudgesicles or puddings is still not more than most diet snack bars. Ah - alcohol, but knowing you want to have fun so I'd just focus on containing 'damages' lol and still having a blast!
Had to start fast tonight but got my food down in time to make it and thankfully leave appointment is 9:45 so can eat afterwards. Last time scheduled it for 3pm and not eating until then was dang tough. I even had nuts in the car for leaving that appointment LOL!
Weigh-in 216.8 so good week. Leaving for the doc in an hour and ready for this fast to end. The fast may not have been necessary because the nurse said it was 'just in case' they decide to take more blood.
Ive been so centered on remembering fast not to mess up the appointment lost track that I will get my blood work back. Mostly with my steady and more than 2 daily egg comsumption, will be looking for the cholesterol count which has always been low before. I sure hope its not an issue.
elbie - sorry to hear about your friend
icequeen - glad you got at least one class and now you can spend more time with your honey.
Officially finished my first week back to school so I have been MIA with getting settled into this semsester.
Hope everyone has a good weekend!
Congrats, Sun! Nice job chiseling away those pounds. Hope you got some good news from the doctor.
Still at 135... Had a good run tonight, so I'm super tired. I was getting kinda worried about still being at 135, but I'm trying to focus more on eating healthy and staying active. I figure eventually I'll get over this plateau.
Have a great weekend!
I noticed not seeing you around, Velvet and glad to have you back {{velvet}} Ice, I can imagine how much harder it is to get off a plateau at your lower weight. Hope it wont be long!
I got an email from my my best friend (and now boss). He and his partner decided to start SB - so cool. They dont really have weight problems, just a bit over but knowing my good fortune with the plan (theyre my cheerleaders) theyre giving it a go. So fun to get the random email with a question about this and that. I copied all the posts from the links I made in the OP with the allowed foods, meal menus, etc to help them start off.
Lunch tomorrow with two friends Ive not seen since summer. Like having a reason to put something nice on. Checked out the menu - mexican food and pretty evil menu but saw they had tongue which is pretty hard to come by and Im a fan.
Sun- tongue???? Ugh, better you than me...but hey- it's better than a beef burrito covered in cheese and refried beans, right? That's great that you have encouraged others to do SB. Glad your weigh-in went well.
Velvet- what year in school are you? I can't imagine how tough it must be to be on SB while having to deal with unlimited dining hall options- more power to you!!
I had an exceptionally upsetting day today-- had a really bad job interview. Was very tempted to console myself with a cheeseburger and fries, but convinced myself to go home & make lentil soup instead. yay! my boyfriend says he can notice change in my body, but i think he's just being nice.
i will weigh in tomorrow or the next day and provide an update...
Hi Ladies,
Just poping in quickly to say hi, and a (belated) Happy New Year!!
How is everyone doing??
I DID get the tongue and managed to get one of my two friends to try it. Also ate half which means awesome dinner tonight! I called in advance looking for diet friendly meals and they were nice enough to admit that they grill the meat with butter (including the tongue). When I got there, I asked them to stop after boiling it and serve it that way which is the only way Ive ever had it anyway. Its been years since Ive had it so imagine the treat and of course the friends I'd not seen since the summer.
{{sunshine}} Interviews have always been disaster for me so can imagine how bad you felt but hope you felt empowered choosing that healthy soup. Personally, Im betting your boyfriend is more conscious than you think of you and really does see the changes since he pointed it out.
Hey all,
Got back from my quick trip home for my friends funeral. It was pretty terrible, but awesome to see old friends and and catch up. My friend Brian sure knew how to bring people together:) Got bad news this evening-probably have to turn right back around in a couple days because my grandmother is not doing well. She is 95 and has been sick for a while. It's just been a terribly emotional week to say the least.
Thanks to all of it, it seems I am not as hungry as I used to be. Can't really stomach much right now. I was able to crunch down some Wasa crackers and cottage cheese, but that was before I heard the news about my grandmother. Now I am just nauseous.
Sorry for the "downer" post again. I'll be back to normal soon I hope.
LB
Gosh Elbie, what tough times for you! Im sorry about your grandmother. Thoughts to you and your family. Sometimes food can comfort and others it doesnt seem possible to eat. Do what ever helps you through.
I saw those Wasa crackers and almost got them. I tend to react hunger wise to crackers but thankfully not triscuits probably because theyre direct wheat and not wheat flour. The Wasa I saw looked like they were somewhere betweeen crackers and triscuits as far as what I suspected my reaction would be.
Take care Elbie!
Elbie- so sorry for your loss, and for the sad news about your grandma. I hope she pulls through. Hang in there!
Sun- glad you were able to enjoy dinner out! Man, you are sure stronger than me-- mexican food is my fav and I surely would have caved...
Today was not so hot. Was off and went to see Gran Torino (soooo good!) with the boyfriend and then went to this sandwich place called Earl of Sandwich where I succumbed and ate half a sandwich (I'm still in phase 1, so this is not good). I was wondering, on average, how long everyone stayed on phase 1 for? Also, my friend arrives tomorrow, so that will be a difficult week, diet wise. Just hope I don't put myself back at square 1.
Question: anyone know how to get a peanut butter and jelly fix when I'm still carb & sugar free???
Elbie - sorry for all the troubles your having, I hope things get better soon.
Sun - tongue? eww, I couldnt go there, liver is about the oddest I have eaten
sunshineelisa3 - I am at the end of my 1st year, i started along time ago and never continued due to needing to work full time and finally decided it was time to go back and finish the degree I started. I usually try to bring food with me to school and try my best to stay away from our food courts because we just have some bad choices of food. Sorry you didnt have a good day yesterday.
I have been MIA as I had some homeworkd I wanted to punch out before the weekend hit. So now I can relax and do alittle shopping which is a good way to get my walking in.
Hope you got to fulfill that activity this weekend velvet and thinking that your homework out of the way made for a more carefree weekend too.
Things have gotten crazy and may not be around for a few days. Will probably peek in to lurk as escape but a family medical situation has me 'fried' and hard to focus on much else. Diet still going well though.
Sun - Yes I got to fullfil my activity and alittle extra, so it was a good day and yes getting my homework out of the way before weekends when I can makes them so much more relaxing and I seem to get more done.
Hope everyone is enjoying there Sunday!
