I am mainly eating protein and veggies. I've even stayed away from milk/yogurt because I don't really like to drink milk and I can't seem to find any sugar free yogurt. The grocery stores where I live have very little SB products.

I usually have at least 30% fat no matter what changes I try. I tried egg whites but don't like them but I will check out the egg beaters if they are lower in fat.
I will also try less cheese and see if it makes a difference.
Thanks for the advice and tips.
did you know that egg beaters and other egg substitute products are mainly egg whites? So I suggest buying eggs in the carton and separate yolks from the whites. Take just a minute and you save a ton of money! As I am working on getting my cholesterol down, I can have two egg yolks a week, so I have scramble eggs or whole grain homemade waffles on the weekend. Typically, 2-3 egg whites with one egg yolk makes enough egg product for two scramble egg breakfasts along with a turkey sausage patty. How yummy is that?
Just for info, I have a collection of SB friendly recipes available through Yahoo Groups (http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/SBDS-foo ds/). Lots of recipes collected for both Phase 1 and Phase 2. If posting this url is a violation, I apologize in advance, I just want to share.
"I can't seem to find any sugar free yogurt."
I buy plain yogurt and add flavorings or berry fruit to it. I also use it in baking too. It is a great "fat" substitute for butter called for in recipes.
Look for Nancy or Mountain High brands. You can usually find plain yogurt in small containers under your local grocery chain name brand too.
I eat a lot of hardboiled egg whites ... they are a great source of lean protein (and unlike scrambling them, there's no pan to clean!) We do eat eggbeaters, too.
I've pretty much given up yogurt these days due to sugar issues ... I know I could buy plain and then add fruit, but I tend to minimize fruit, too! At some point, it's just easier to eat something else, ya know? But I do try to eat an apple a day, plus a dozen or so servings of veggies.
For cheese, I've really cut back due to saturated fat issues. I like Laughing Cow Light Gourmet Cheese Bites, Kraft Fat Free Singles (Sharp Cheddar), and Cabot 75% reduced fat cheddar (60 calories per ounce). Oh, and I sprinkle parmesan cheese on zucchini and broccoli. And we always have light string cheese in the fridge, too.
Sun123 ... hang in there, I am sure your weight gain is mostly water. My scales was very uncooperative today, too.
MOLLY
Ahhhh .... it's Superbowl Sunday .... when millions of Americans sit around for hours and stuff themselves silly while cheering on a bunch of heavily-padded men who chase a small brown ball (and each other) around white-striped lawn as other (less padded) men dressed like zebras blow whistles and fling bright yellow handkerchiefs into the air. And, afterward, everyone discusses the television commercials more than the actual game.
We made the mistake of shopping at Trader Joe's on Saturday evening and it was just PACKED ... I assume everyone suddenly realized "Hey! The Big Game is tomorrow! Let's go buy some organic veggies and two buck Chuck!" We picked up (as usual) a cart-full of fresh veggies: grape tomatoes, red peppers, zucchini, butternut squash, spinach, collard/turnip/mustard greens, green beans, broccoli, fresh yellow corn on the cob, mushrooms and some spicy egg white salad. Then we visited the regular grocery store for apples, radishes, cucumbers and cabbage. We picked up some bread, too ... Thomas' light multigrain english muffins and sprouted organic flax seed bread for me, and Milton's Multigrain bread for my wonderful DH Ron.
Dinner Sunday night for me will be my favorite ... spicy Yellowfin Sashimi Salad with radishes, cucumbers and grape tomatoes tossed in a lemon juice-chili-powder-Ponzu sauce mixture (with fresh garlic and green onions!) YUMMMERZ! With that I will have some fresh veggies ... probably broccoli and butternut squash. Dinner Saturday night was grilled ostrich burgers with onions and peppers, plus fresh spinach, fresh green beans, and fresh corn .... it was delicious!
I am pleased to report that my blood sugars have re-stabilized now that all of the thyroid meds are out of my system.... eeek, that was scary!YAY! And I'm also pleased to report that I surpassed my increased exercise goal for the first week of February! (My goal was 120 minutes of treadmilling, and I've done 158 minutes ... WOOO HOOO!) My wonderful DH took me out shopping on Saturday night and bought me a great blue-and-yellow University of Michigan sweatshirt so I will be toasty-warm when I head back there in less than two weeks, wasn't that sweet?
=^..^= MOLLY
No superbowl for me. With the commercials popping up onlin, Ive lost incentive Theres the pesky issue of no computer volume but not enough incentive to sit through football. Ive previously taken advantage of the time, shopping without crowds. Worried about the Valentines day with my last weigh in? Let me tell you ...
How wonderful about the blood sugar Molly! I think youve got a realistic approach to your trip with the mainentance plan. Hope your water gain chills out for your weigh in today!
virtual, thanks for the yahoo sbd link - Ive included it in post 56 linked to from the OP for recipes.
wings - I dont like eggwhites but found one white added to 2 eggs adds a lot of bulk, very little calories and more protein. I actually am not an egg fan period (minus fried or mayonaised in salad) but adding mushroom, beans or something else I really like makes them fine and convenient.
Monday again!! Can you believe that we are in February already??
So today, I'm determined to get back on the wagon fully!! My moto is going to be no processed junk today, and hopefully I will be able to get through the day!! I am doing dinner for a friend this evening, so I think I will do a veggie stirfry and then have some pancakes (made from scratch) for dessert.
So how is everyone else doing??
So glad to hear that you are back in the zone!! I def believe that sometimes it is good when it happens because it helps to re-affirm your goals. Hopefully the extra lbs will come off just as quickly as they went on!!
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
