Sounds like your coming out of Gina. Youre so right - I was thinking I shouldve stayed but now realizing not in that mindset. Crystal, its such a personal experience quitting but perhaps you might try tapering off. Im cautious about advise because I know the struggle and it can be easy to suggest outside looking in. I basically would be lost without the patch. Way to drop one Sarah and staying true, I bet you do even better next week!
Jayne, you are better off rescheduling. If that was me I probably have hit that silly receptionist or at least have given her a total tongue lashing!! (I'm not a violent person, but if you catch me in a mood - BEWARE!! lol) Hope the quitting is going well for you!
Ohio, would definately prefer to be in FL at the mo!! Its 3 degrees here (thats about 37 degrees fahrenheit)!!
Jayne, forgot to weigh myself this morning - but you can put me down for 132 (yesterdays weight).
THE HEALTHY EATING STARTS MONDAY!!

I've finished the first day and felt great! Looking forward to the second day.
A few questions for the SB vetrans out there. :-) First, are there any drinks at Starbucks that qualify for phase one? And also, how do you handle social situations? I'm going to a birthday party potluck for a friend tomorrow night. I'm scheduled to bring the cake, which I could care less about (right now, at least) but I'm afraid there won't be anything there I can eat! Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! I'm really enjoying this thread.
Phase1 has does jumpstart weightloss and control the carb craving hunger so you can gradully reintroduce good carbs slowly to create a better response from your body. If one is exercising extensively though, phase1 as can be an issue as opposed to normal exercise and say walking which are fine.
In general, its suggested to tone down exercise in phase1 because of the lack of carbs. This is more a precaution and whether its an issue depends on the person. Because you are marathon training, you've a few options based on your body's response. The most probable suggestion is to skip phase1 to play it safest. Another is stay with phase1 but modify it to incorporate complex carbs prior to workout. Also you could try phase1 as is but be cautious if you find yourself lacking stanima and energy. Since they recommend beans daily, you might try scheduling them before workouts but if thats not enough for you to keep up modify it, avoiding simple carbs to what works for you.
As Sarah points out its going to vary but it may not be a problem and great that day1 went well. My first days were my toughest followed by really great, reduced craving days. Tried to find a link on phase1 exercise but the best I found was this which only comments briefly: LINK, and leans against it. It does have good phase1 info though.
Thanks gina for the link! I tend to be recipe shy but it doesnt seem too complicated. Its about that temp here too but I hear FL is having a cold spell. Stay warm Rachael! Funny about the fruit evening snack. Just thinking about incorporating fruit into the day but thinking night is safest for me.
Also Ingrid, consider eating before leaving (I do right before heading out the door) when eating out socially or a party so you can pick when you get there and not have to depend on it as your meal. Wondering how everyone else just starting it doing.
Hi All!
I am new. I have tried SB in the past and have had good luck. Since the holidays are over it's time to get back on the wagon. Here are my stats:
Name: Kelsey
Age: 28
Height: 5'3
Weight: 136
Goal Weight: 120
Last night I had 2 glasses of wine. Besides that I have followed Phase One pretty faithfully. Am I screwed????? Does anyone have experiences with this? Thanks.
I forgot to weigh myself this morning but i will tonight and post it tomorrow! I have to say the amazing thing about south beach, and phase one is that i really don't get hungry. Its kind of weird because normally i always want to eat but i couldn't even eat my whole lunch today.
Oh also i made a very yummy dessert last night. I got the magic bullet for christmas and used that. I put some frozen cool whip, part skim riccota a half a packet of splenda some coco powder and a sprinkel of cincamin. Then i used the whipping blade to mix it. it came super creamy and cold like ice cream. yummy!
Hi ya'll,
Ok, so I know brisket is definitely on the "Foods to Avoid" list, but that's exactly what my husband decided to cook. He knows I'm dieting, but we bought it pre-diet and he wants it tonight. It's in the oven as we speak. This is only my second day on SBD and I've done extremely well so far, but would I be cheating to just eat a 2 or 3oz piece of the brisket with the veggies on the side? Or should I just skip eating with the family tonight and make myself a salad with chopped turkey breast? I think I know the right answer, just want to hear it from you.
I would suggest to stay away from the brisket. I know me personally when i allow myself to have something "just this one time" i wind up having a lot of "just this one time" cheats. I wouldn't just eat a salad though that will make everything your family is eating look 10 times yummier. Try making yourself something good like salmon and steamed veggies or something like that. Also when your done eating you will feel so good that you avoided your first challenge!
Hi Kelsey Welcome I dont think the wine will hurt just for one night ..it happened...blow it off and get on track again BEWARE THE WINE LOL!!!
Jenn Im thinking about doing phase one again even though I find it really hard I really need to detox myself from Christmas goodies the fast drop in weight is also a bonus.
tdionne- lets us know what you wound up deciding to do...good luck!
Kelsey- do'nt stress the red wine. What's done is done just keep going and you will be fine. maybe stick to phase one for an extra day to make up for it.
Do you guys still log calories while doing phase 1? From reading the book it sounded like it wasn't necessary, but I've been doing it because I haven't been hungry (which sounds pretty normal for this phase) and I don't want to undereat. Is that okay?
Wow - hubbys putting you to the test tiffany (imagines the smell of baking brisket). Its great to look back on phase1 and now you maxed out your weight loss opportunity by standing firm. Remember there will probably be multiple opportunities to cheat so it will help to resist. Be cautious if you have a few bites that you dont trigger further cheats but hoping you make it through :D.
Jenn - my first carb intro was for breakfast and I was much hungrier by 10am then phase1. I found holding off carbs til lunch or later made a big difference, maybe cause I already have a non carb breakfast in me too. Granted Im sensitive to them so it may just be me. I was looking at the bullet too and was surprised theyre pricey. I couldnt justify it as I was just looking for chopping onions, always in my fridge.
Kiki asks me if I want four different ghiralrdelli squares from holidays, saying she didnt like these flavors. I told her one of them was dark chocolate and she says shes just tired of them. Oh really - must be nice. :P
So true its not necessary because the diet is set up, in my opinion, to keep you from excessive cal particularly phase 1 but true - low cal can drop the calorie burning, at least it does for me.
Its a miserable morning here. It was snowing at first, but now the rain is washing it all away!!!
Its still freezing though!!
So how is everyone doing today??
