Good morning!
I'm on day 3 of phase 1 and I'll admit it's been hard. I got hit with a stomach bug and all I really wanted to eat was some toast, but I did not. The first couple days were really hard, especially since I wasn't feeling well and just wanted the comfort food like dry pasta and toast. Maybe a saltine or two. Today my stomach feels better and I was able to keep breakfast down. I have a big question, though:
Since my tummy is still queasy, one of my coworkers made me ginger tea. I'm wondering if it's ok to drink. I didn't see ginger root anywhere on the foods to enjoy or skip lists. The tea is not in a tea bag. It's literally just some ginger root floating in hot water. Is it ok to drink?
Doodley, your nutrition sounds great. Im not good at calorie caluculations, usually recommending the site tools but they seem in line. SB calories tend to fall in line themselves which is why the lack of emphasis on counting but you asked and I do keep a vague mental count through my day. As far as your loss history, the first week then TOM is understandable. I'm wondering if your body is holding out but with the carb control of SB, thinking it cant be for long. Know you've had a history moving and recently my losses which had come like clockwork have been plateauing but just when Im ready to pull out my hair LOL the scale moves.
Different things work for different people so you could still try some things and see how the scale responds. Maybe upping activity. Even if you dont, I still think the 'cleanness" of SB diet wont allow your body to hold out for long before the numbers move.
Thanks sun!
250-anything is all I ask. Yesterday I just wanted below 261.8 from last week - that didnt last long LOL! Still I will settle for any loss but I'll be hoping!
I weighed in at 259.0 (those even ounce numbers still throw me) and happy. Moments ago I was an ounce or two below, but sticking with my first because later I could flucuate a few ounces higher. My goal being not seeing that six pop up - not even 260.0 from now to next Thursday - its all about the 50s.
Hoping those your moving on from those stomach issues Briana. Doodley, I know its only been one day but wishing you pending turn around with your scale for you and your daughter. Saravee - hoping your set up in your new place and are doing okay staying on track. Sara and Rachael, looking forward to any updates from you both!
Jenna, Velvet, Katie, Kyna - lets hear from you :D.
My stomach feels a lot better. I still feel tired and drained of energy and totally unmotivated to go to the gym. I figure I'll rest a little. I was thinking it may be a combination of the sickness and carb withdraw. Did anyone else experience feeling a bit under the weather the first few days?
This is not as hard as I thought it would be though. I really am starting to not miss refined carbs and sugars. I do miss my whole wheat crackers though...they will return soon enough. I weighed myself this morning and I have lost 4 lbs since Sunday night. I'm sure I'll gain some back now that I'm eating again, but it's a nice motivating start.
Those whole wheat crackers sound like a great intro to carbs. Im very carb sensitive with my insulin resitance yet triscuits have no affect on cravings, probably because there made from whole wheat and not the flour. Luckily Im crazy about them and havent tired of them. Just a few really hold me over as a snack. Usually a carb snack for me like fruit will set off hunger.
I already so 160 this afternoon LOL. Eh - still thinking next week I will drop below 159.0 with another loss. I just learned that tomorrow night is a reunion for my 1st TX employer where I worked from 1988-96. I was very excited even if I was a tiny thing back then (see my 1990 profile pic) but since its $30 to go, still debating.
I'm at 170. Monday morning I weighed 174--I had pasta and beer the night before as a "farewell carbs!" dinner. :)
I LOVE triscuits! They're really good with laughing cow cheese. I usually keep a box at my desk at work. Ak-mak whole wheat flatbread crackers are really good too. Congrats on your progress, btw!
Actually, the farther into phase 1 I get, the more the weak feeling goes away. We'll see how I do at the gym on Saturday...that's what I'm hesitant about. Not having any "fuel" for my workout with my trainer.
Jayne, oddly enough, my 10 year HS reunion is this weekend. Very exciting, but funds are keeping me from going. Mine is $100!!! That doesn't include dinner or drinks. Not that I could do either right now anyway, but still! $100 to get in the door! All the people I would care to see I'm mostly still in touch with. But I say, if you really want to go, and can afford it, splurge a little. I'm sure you'd have a great time!
TGIF!!!![]()
Finally.....a 1/2 lb drop...not much, but I will take it and maybe it will be the start of another downward trend! We'll see!
We just tried laughing cow cheese for the first time this week (I was waiting for it to go on sale in case I didn't like it) and boy was it yummy. Can't wait to get some triscuits to go with it!!
I have been walking 1.5miles at lunch each day, so I am going to try upping it to 2 and going a little faster and see if that helps. I also just got the Turbo Jam videos so I can;t wait to get started on them. My brother is giving me his Gazelle this weekend, so that should be fun too! Maybe trying some different workouts that my body is not used to will jolt it back into action!
Have a great weekend all
oooh I had my first weigh in today after my first week on south beach!
I lost 8 lbs! I am so incredibly thrilled I can't even say. And it wasn't even that hard to stick to!
I am down to 140lbs. I am hoping to get to 125...someday =)
But I can't wait to keep going and to have more yummy omelettes this weekend.
Doodley, happy to see you 'moving' and thinking you'll see more hanging in there. Thats a good strategy with the exercise! I put off trying LC cheese sticking to cheaper groceries despite rave reviews here at CC, but eventually did and found it justified because its so good. If it was cheap, afraid how much of it I'd eat LOL.
Ouch Brianna, thats pricey. I think of reuinions as more of a curiousity thing considering its mostly seeing those we havent bothered to keep up with unless it really was unintential losing track of people. I agree on the LC cheese triscuit and its a great way to stretch such a small piece of cheese since its so flavorful a little bit per cracker goes a long way.
Im still on grocery freeze except the occasional eggs, crazy cheap. Im going through foods that have been skipped over for months. At least when Im done, will have cleaned out those foods that otherwise wouldnt eat.
Hi Not sure if I am doing this right but will see. I am new here and I am going to start the south beach on Monday. I did it an year ago but quit after an couple of months and now I weight 20lbs more now than I did then. I am at 196 and hope to get down to about 150 then will see how I am feeling about myself then. I am looking forward to getting to know you all and helping each other lose this weight. Donna
I was ready to toss a box of tuna helper when I decided to pull out that little bag of pasta first. Granted I sent all the pasta with Kiki to her dads because after my pasta meal for my birthday last Aug which set off cravings, I havent touched macaroni. I decided this small pouch though was a good size to work with. I boiled part of it and decided to remake one of the few recipes I used to love.
Very Italian.
Old recipe - onion and garlic sauted in tons of oil. Toss in can of peas, cooked pasta, oregano and salt. Simple but the pasta was coated with the onion/ garlic flavored oil.
My redo was start with the cooked pasta, but a small amount, no oil, added part of a can peas & carrots (less peas), garlic powder, onion powder and oregano. It came out great. Granted I could have made the whole bag (it was small) and the whole can but didnt want it conveniently available in the fridge. I can make it again but checking to see how my blood sugar reaction is. I know peas/ pasta is carb carb but betting on the small bowl (plus I am low carb for SB already).
Granted its late for dinner but my sleep hours are still off and probably will be up until 3 again but plan to ease into earlier wake up and bedtime.
My weight is holding steady. (an upper number, but steady). I was off schedule, meals, EVERYTHING, from a new stressful job. byw I love the job. Then my power was off 3 days and I finally gave up.
Packing lunches is a challenge. Theres a great deli but its costly. I'm thinking meatballs for Mondays lunch, so need to get busy.
Hope everyone is doing well. how are Sarah and Gina?
sun, it's good to come back here and catch up.
Its hard to imagine dealing without electricity not just until it pops back on but day after day. Glad your still enjoying the job but I understand that doesnt means youre not under pressure. So happy youre still keeping your health and weight in check as challenging as that can be to lose track of with less time to focus on it plus adapting to stresses and changes youre experiencing.
Those of you who have joined on recently - Im really happy to have you aboard. Briana, Doodley and Ozma who have already have started and Donna who kicks off tomorrow. Phase1 got me off the processed carbs cycle of overeating and got my hunger in check. Phase2 reintroduced me to carbs and the healthy ones that didnt cause later stronger hunger.
Thinking you'll find success through SB but its no secret around here whatever your diet plan ends up being, this threads name doesnt prevent you from still be a welcome member. We've long supported whatever method works for you. BTW phase 1 is not a stranger to those whove continued on phase2. As with any diet, plateaus can happen and several of us have revisited phase1 to shake things up.
Attending Kiki's soccer game today. Scale has been down 257-258 so Im feeling comfortable the 260s are behind me. The pasta worked out fine last night without making me crave as it had when I had a pasta dinner for my 2007 birthday (it set off binge impulses). Seems like portion was a factor with the meal of pasta versus last night's side dish size serving of it.
On CNN this moring they had some woman who ate "raw" no, not shusi, but raw veggies. She lost 160 lbs in 2 yrs.
But, I thought heck, you and many CC members have done that good.........and you never made the news! That lady averaged, (I had to get a calculator) she lost 6.67 lbs per month. Granted that was good, month after month, but CC has ppl doing that!
yeah, my cravings got the best of me, back to SB.
hi, i want to start the 1st phase of the diet. any tips, suggestion would be awesome. I have read through many of the posts and printed out the foods to avoid, enjoy and model menus of the phases provided by sun~ thank you.
what does a real personal menu for phase 1 for someone willing to share look like?
Hey y'all. It's been one week one phase 1 and things are going great. I've lost 5 pounds, which is good. I don't have internet access in my apartment though so I have to trek over to a local coffee shop to use their wifi, which kind of sucks, I would love to post more often! Anyways, I didn't try that ricotta dessert thing, I just got some fudgesicles, yum. I'm hoping this next week goes well goes on my birthday in 2 weeks there will definitely be some cheating, yip. Ha, just a little though.
Like I thought, I haven't missed carbs at all. Which is awesome. Screw those carbs! I too am excited about a tortilla though :). Everything just goes into them so well.
Hey makintcount - glad the info was helpful. Phase1 I did not look at breakfast differently so it often looked like a lunch or dinner food although eggs can be used for more traditional breakfast. The MAIN thing I recommend is remember this is temporary until you start switch to the wider spectrum of phase2. Bootcamp, if you will :D.
You might see if you can get the SB cookbook from your library (ebay runs it quite cheap too but there is waiting for shipping). I actually learned the diet from the info in the part before the recipes and picked up pointers online.
Rachael, my mom (who isnt very communicative) has two things she repeats to me. Get smaller clothes LOL and you need to contact the SB people to be like Jared and Subway :P.
Ive lost 200 lbs.
First 100 in 6mths (06/07-12/07).
Next 100 in 9mths (01/08-09-08).
Ive another 100 to go and wonder if by the pattern if I should allow another 12 mths. Maybe then I will contact SB :D. Ive heard of the raw diet and it extremely hard because of the food options.
