Well isnt this a depressing start to the weekend....

I've gotten myself out of starvation mode probably for the last 4 months. In november I joined up with a personal trainer in an effort to lose literally 5lbs (it was a promotion when I signed up for the gym so I thought I;d take advantage of it), I weighed in in November at 101lbs. (I'm petite and 5ft). Well after going to the gym 3-5x per week doing both cardio, HIIT weights, pilates, yoga, taking a short break with her while I was with family in my home town for about 2 weeks, I still managed to keep a routine. I've been measuring my food, indulging a couple times a week but generally keeping a deficit. And well apparantly, I've gained 4lbs as of today in 2 months. This makes me 10lbs heavier since July. I can't stop gaining weight no matter what I do.

I did my measurements and my ass has GAINED an inch, and I've put on more bodyfat. I'm ready to quit this site, the gym and give up. All this effort only to find I havent just maintained, but GAINED 4lbs. That can't be normal. And its not just water weight because I've weighd myself every couple weeks and have been watching the scale go up slowly. WTF do I do?? I lost 15lbs over 3 years by not watching what I eat and just keeping busy with school and work. Now its all back and then some. I give up.

I agree, that's depressing.  But some people's bodies just metabolize differently.  Maybe you should try taking 100 calories or so off of your daily intake?  Like try -100 for 2 weeks and see what happens, and if nothing happens try -200?  Also, the general feel-good but STILL TRUE saying:  Muscle weighs more than fat!  And bodyfat percentages aren't really reliable unless you get them done by a doctor.

How many calories were you eating daily and how many calories were your 'indulgence'? if you weren't eating enough you will gain weight.

It might be because you need that weight to be healthy.  BMI puts you underweight at 101lbs.

Oh wow I failed at absorbing what I read.  Good call obrules.  I revise my advice: keep working out and use weights!  You don't want to get too much skinnier, you should work on putting on muscle if you are still conscious of flab.

Hmm thanks, my trainer just told me that today too about weight lifting. I am eating between 1100-1300 cals now. My indulgence days are around 1700 which is my maintenance. But I'm eating way healthier now than I ever have been and I just keep gaining. The math just isn't adding up...I feel like I should just eat what I want becaue eating 'clean' really has made things worse so far....

When I was at the doctor, and weighed in at 101, she said I was at about 20 which is perfect....not underweight, at this point i just want to focus on not gaining anymore...

are you tying to go to 90lbs?????????? The doctor said you were at 20 what? l can't even believe someone is 'training' you to lose weight**shakes head**

Doctor said 20 BMI, which is ideal.  That's what she meant.

1100 to 1300 calories on regular days still isn't enough to get you out of starvation mode (unless you mean 1250-1300 almost every day and only very occasional dips down to 1190-1200ish).  You need to eat more.  Specifically, you need to eat maintenance calories until you can maintain on them.  If you can't maintain your weight eating 1600 calories per day, you're not out of starvation mode yet.

Based on your profile, it looks like you're 5'2 which makes your BMI 18.5 - the very bottom of the healthy range.  If that's the case, you cannot safely maintain a lower weight and that's probably why you've gained back up to this point (as you were underweight before).
