It's 2:59 AM and just woke up to a wet bed. I'm sixteen. I'm so confused and embarrassed, why now? I haven't done it for years. I don't know what to do. I was soaking and ashamed and had to take off my pants, so I'm freezing now. I've put a towel over everything but I still have to lie down in it until tomorrow morning when thankfully I go to school late and can figure out something to do, how to hide it. I'm so ashamed and don't understand why.
Urinary tract infections are fairly common among females. They can have the lovely side effect of greatly reducing your control. I can understand your feeling ashamed, but it really isn't your fault. You should try to get to a doctor. UTIs respond very well to antibiotics but it maybe something different as well. After all, this is only a guess. In the meantime, drink lots of water, wear pants that are easy to get off quickly and stay close to bathrooms.
Do you feel like you have to go to the bathroom constantly? Any pain with urination or foul odor? Pink when you wipe? If you think you have a UTI, don't hesitate to get to the doctor, and drink LOTS of cranberry juice. Some people think that cranberry juice alone can cure UTI's, but this is dangerous because it only treats the symptoms while allowing the infection to travel up into the bladder/kidneys, which can be very serious.
(Don't be embarrassed. One time when I had a UTI I couldn't get to a doctor for two days, so after a sleepless night I finally slept and lost bladder control. It's just a symptom.)
because it feels embarrassing, no one ever talks about it. but it really is more common than you might think. listen to the advice of the previous posters, but its a one off so far, there may be nothing to worry about - it may not happen again.
chin up, smile, a friend of mine poo'd his pants on a night out once, and he was in his 20s.!!!!

Thank you for your kind words, I'll check it out. It happened to me a lot when I was a kid and I had a lot of UTIs, for which I was constantly taking antibiotics. Bit silly of me to not see the connection, but I'd always thought I was lazy or stupid and couldn't get to the toilet on time. Yes, recently I've needed to pee more urgently, and I'm afraid I've made it worse by holding it in so often (or trying to...) You're all lovely, and made me feel a lot better. <3
Also, are you on any medication, particularly sedating medication? When I started taking sleeping pills, I wet the bed all the time (i'm 16 too). It was so embarrassing, but I did a bit of research and found it's fairly common when starting meds like those. I also pee sooo frequently, and have for many years. Could this mean i've had a UTI for years and years??? Like, on average I'd say I pee like 25 times a day...my doctor said that's fine but does anyone else have this problem?
It's so annoying when every 20 min when I'm out with friends I have to pee! Sorry if this is TMI lol.
But, back to you cjkl, I wouldn't worry. If it happens a lot, maybe you should talk to your doctor (i'm pretty sure there are meds to help with bed-wetting).
I had the same problem for a couple of months after I started taking sleeping pills (oddly enough, when I was 16!). It's nothing to be ashamed of. I would recommend talking to your doctor if it happens again.
I've done that recently and I'm in my 20's. I turned out to have overactive bladder, easily fixed with Detrol (its a medication). I was embarassed too, but now I don't have to worry about it. I would say it is worth mentioning to your doctor just to make sure everything is okay. Oh and chronic UTI's can be a symptom of overactive bladder, so just let your doctor know about it.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm not taking anything at the moment, but I appreciate the help. I'll see how I go.
It happened to me about 2 years ago when I was 31. I was really tired and knew I had to go and started dreaming I had gotten up and went into the bathroom and well I was still is the bed.....You get the idea. ![]()
I would definitely check the UTI thing especially since you have a history of them but please remember it happens if there is no medical cause and its not a regular occurrence it could have been something as simple as a dream. As adults we just don't talk about it.
Good luck
I had some of those dreams as well, but I don't remember doing so this time. I don't think the, uh, act, even was what woke me up. I can only hope it won't happen again. I guess it's possible that people just don't talk about it.
This happened to me last year!! And I'm 20 y/o! It was from drinking too much alcohol. I woke up the next day in a bed of pee. Fantastic :/
Yeah I have done the drunk peeing thing... so embarrassing. I also remember wetting the bed as a kid a couple of times after having the "going to the toilet" dream. Not cool, but obviously it's not that unusual either.
I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens again. Otherwise, it's probably just a one-off. ![]()
Hehe, well I wasn't drinking, but I'd say that's another thing all together. :p
I'm feeling much better about it now.
