what's better juice or diet soda???
Hello, I was just wanting to know which one is better juice or diet soda? 100% juices as well as other juices have calories, but I know that they are good for you. Diet sodas do not have any calories, but some people say that they are not healthy for you at all. Is it the sodium content that maybe makes some people think that they are not healthy for you. Then again I have always heard that if you can help it, you should not drink your calories. Can someone please clear this up for me. Are diet sodas really bad for you?
i would prefer the 100% juice rather than the diet sodas.betweent the two i think that the juice satisfies me more than the sodas. i'm trying to cut off diet sodas slowly, because there have been studies about artificial sweeteners. but of course, watch out for portions for they can be pretty high caloric.
I prefer juice to sodas. Sodas make me bloat because of the gas.
Juice, any juice, has calories, and usually a lot. You are also not getting as many nutrients such as fiber since you are not eating the whole fruit, just the juice. You may get some nutritional value from juices but I think the bad outweighs the good in terms of all the additional calories you are drinking.
Diet soda is a personal opinion. A LOT of people say there are bad things about it. Some people say it can prevent you from losing weight. A LOT of people LOVE it and drink it regularly. It has no calories but it also has NO nutritional value. I disagree with the whole "high in sodium" stuff; look at your can of diet soda. They typically have 1% of your daily sodium or 30mg (or whatever it's measured in, I don't have a can in front of me). If I drank 10 a day, it would still only be 10% of my daily sodium, and even in my diet soda heyday I only drank 4. I had this arguement with my doctor once and brought a can in with me to ask her why it was considered high in sodium. She never bothered me about it again.
So if your asking what is better, you will have a lot of disagreement. I personally don't think diet soda is bad, I like it, I drink it (not now, they don't have diet soda here), but that's because I don't want to "spend" my daily calories on juice (some juices are no better than regular soda btw). Soley based on calories and because I personally feel that drinking juice is not that nutritious, I wouls day diet soda is "better."
The beef on diet soda isn't the sodium, it is the aspertine and artificial sweetners. There is a lot of research suggesting that aspertine can not be processed and can actually lead to weight gain. There are also studies that say it is a neuro toxin. And there are studies that say it is fine.
So it comes down to personal choice.
When I saw a nutritionist they nixed the diet soda. I've also had a couple anatomy classes taught by Dr's and they too were not down with the aspertine. Google it and see what you think. It's really up to you. Personally I do feel more prone to headaches when I drink it. I also tend to drink a lot of it because of no calories and much less water.
So my choice is instead I to have a regular (can size) cola, and suck it up and count the calories.
Anyway you cut it, you will probably only want to have one sugary or sugar flavored drink a day, so I say pick which one you like the most.
Juice is excessively sugary and should only drank in small amounts - less than 1 cup per day. (and yes, natural fructose in 100% juice is just as bad as sucrose or any other sugar in this respect) Diet soda makes you crave sweets and simple carbs and makes you gain weight.
Neither is very good for health or weight loss.
I recommend unsweetened tea - hot or cold, English, Earl Grey, Ooolong, Green, all are delicious, none screw with your blood sugar like juice or mess with your brain like diet drinks.
I personally choose not to drink soda. I even limit my regular non-diet soda intake. You have to be careful what kind of "juice" it is, a lot of juices aren't really as pure as the claim to be with excess sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and other chemicals. The best I can usually find just say "concentrated x juice, water" It's pretty impossible to find juice not from concentrate.
What I do, and this kind of gives me a soda fix, is that I buy club soda, and mix it with my juice in the glass. So i'll get a little bit of juice 1/2 cup and fill the rest up with club soda. I really enjoy that, because I find juice by itself usually to be too much. It's also half of the calories since club soda doesn't not contain any. Also no chemicals :)

Hello, I was just wanting to know which one is better juice or diet soda?
You left out the really important part of the question: Better for what?
-Juice has vitamins and minerals which are important nutrients (though actual fruit is better in this reguard). So if you want to know which is better nutritionally, juice is.
-Diet sodas offer no nutritional value and contain a lot of chemicals. There is still a debate over whether or not they are actually 'bad' for you, it pretty clear they aren't 'good' for you since they provide absolutely no nutritional benefit. Although they have no calories so if you're trying to cut back on calorie consumption, diet soda is better.
Thank all of you for your help. You all have been very helpful. I think that I will try to slack off of the diet sodas a bit and limit my juice intake. I gonna try and drink more water than anything. Thank ya'll again....
Bluntly, neither one is the answer. Juices are processed foods, with all the fibre removed from the fruit, and most of the nutrients lost in the processing of the juice. They are basically just sugary, flavoured water, with lots of calories and little nutrition. Eat an apple or an orange, that's what Mother Nature intended, don't drink it.
As far as soda's go there is lots of debate about artificial sweeteners, sugar, artifical colours and additives, benzene formation if the can's get heated up in the sun, leaching calcium from your bones etc. etc. Personally I think they are the devil's brew and no sensible person would drink them. For me though it boils down to this. Even if you disbelieve all the mountains of evidence or anecdotal evidence, there is simply is no benefit to your body of drinking sodas. They provide no nutrition, just empty sugar calories so why drink them? Why put something into your body that does it no good, and most likely, does it a great deal of harm? It makes no sense.
Here's my experience with diet soda: I was a caffeine-aholic and until about 4 months ago drank 2 cups of coffee + 3-4 diet drinks a day. Regardless of the diet drinks, I was eating McDonald's and whatever I wanted all through the holidays and finally cut back on both due to migraines more than a need to lose weight. I am now on the no juice, no diet drinks plan, I eat fresh fruit daily, and I only have 1-2 cups coffee for caffeine intake. (And my diet no longer includes fast food or junk food.)
I feel TREMENDOUSLY better, migraines have occurred less often, and I don't have that bloated feeling I used to have. Artificial sweeteners scare me, but so does high fructose corn syrup! Like others have noted, I hate to take in so much calories with so little nutritional value. My daughter drinks half Juicy Juice half water ... if you can get used to the taste, maybe that's an option. I drink water all day long (after my coffee!)-- no bloating, fuller feeling, peppier, much better than results from sodas.
Good Luck!
A lot of good point brougt up so far. Everytime I drink more diet soda consistently over a time period...I loose weight.(I am a regular diet soda drinker about 3 a day, but I increase to about 6 a day at times) I don't know if something else is changing during that time period of my life. I have two thoughts why this may happen to me. I know if those six diet sodas were six glasses of juice...that would be a lot more calories in my daily intake, and I am sure it would lead to weight gain instead of weight loss.
1. My stomach feels fuller more often. Therefore don't feel as hungry.
2. Maybe the caffeine is a stimulant that makes me a little more active.
Neither are that great.
1. Juice is very processed. Have you ever seen the infomercial for the PowerJuicer? Jack Lalanne suggests that you take the pulp/skin/zest stuff that's left in the trap and bake a bread with it, so you're getting the full nutritional value. And that stuff is just lightly processed! Its not pasteurized like many juices on the supermarket shelves are.
2. Diet soda is full of artificial... everything. It has no nutrients, carbonated drinks can give you gas, and... A lot of the fruit flavored sodas contain brominated vegetable oil. Vegetable oil should not be in my soda. Ever.
So I guess I'd say juice? If having a whole big container of it makes it feel less like a "sometimes" drink, try going into the baby aisle of your market and buying the 4oz baby juice containers. They're the perfect size for one sitting, drinking the whole bottle is expected/encouraged, and you won't be sitting there going "but the bottle is open! If I don't drink more, it'll get bad!"
Why not have the best of both worlds. Make a juice spritzer. Cuts down on the calories, no artificial sweetners and you get to drink something that is bubbly and tastes good.
Mix it to your tastes for now and gradually up the carbonated water and lower the juice to cut out even more calories.
I say drink whichever you like better but keep in mind moderation. Juice generally has high sugar and diet soda has chemicals....I don't think you necessarily have to choose between the two..just be smart about it.
The juice spitzer is a good idea..
sounds yummy
I have kicked my diet soda habit! Yeah! Since one of my new year resolutions was to quit it! I now drink more water, juice and unsweetened tea. I feel better not drinking it. Juice is much better for you but it does have alot of sugar in it maybe go for a light version? I have heard some people add club soda to it to make it fizzy because some people miss the fizz from it.
Clarice
I didn't read all the post so if I'm repeating sorry, if you're only chosing between the two I would say juice, but cut it with water and watch the portioning. Juices are very high in sugar and many have High fructose corn syrup which can be a real hindrance to anyone trying to loose weight. Diet soda, most of them are made with aspertame which some studies have suggested accumulates in the brain and may contribute to brain tumors. The FDA still maintains that Aspartame is safe, but I try not to eat it alot, which is hard on a diet, because most diet foods have it. Splenda is not so bad, it actually just a modified sugar molecule with some added stabalizers. If you have to have diet soda, try to choose one made with splenda (diet coke has a version with splenda).
The reason I say juice over soda is because of the caffeine. Caffeine is actullay really hard on your body, not only because it is addicting but because it is a stimulant that puts your body in a state of stress.
My choice would actually be tea or water. I drink Decaffinated Green tea (it has a little caffene 4mg, but not much) during the day with a little splenda, its good cold or hot.
i dont think either is very good. i'd rather drink diet soda than juice because of all the sugar in juice, but then again, i'd rather drink water than diet soda because of all the chemicals.
Diet Soda has no nutrients while juice does. Juice is high on sugar rather than calories. I have had juice all of my life and I could never give it up. I have a glass each morning.
