What's your biggest fluctuation in weight?

Quote  |  Reply
Today I stepped on the scale and found myself gained 2 lbs in 4 days!- I believe I am in starvation mode and am upping my calorific intake by 100 cals a week. I've started eating 100 cals more than usual for 4 days- and after 4 days I've gained 2 lbs! I know this may all be water weight, and weight fluctuates easily- i just want to know whether this is really weight gain or just some fluctuation in a day? This is so discouraging for me! Makes me want to retreat to my old unhealthy way of eating again :(

Anyone had this kind of fluctations? And what's the biggest fluctuation you've had?

2 lbs? come on ;)

my weight fluctuates a lot based on salt intake, sleep, how much water i've drank etc.

i'd say about 5 lbs.
Everyone fluctuates due to water weight. There is no way POSSIBLE you gained 2 pounds of fat. Reduce your sodium and drink water. We all deal with this. Maybe you can't handle weighing daily? Limit yourself to once a week maybe?
I weigh myself frequently, sometimes more than twice a day, and discovered that my body fluctuates 2 to 6 lb within the same day.  There are multiple forums here that discuss weigh-in schedules.  You may find them useful.  There are so many variables that affect your weight, that scale readings should not be used as the only source of your progress monitoring.
You have an eating disorder.. go get help.

I remember you from all your other postings, your so fixed on weight... you need to get yourself help.

I can change 4-5 lbs in a day due to salt and water...
the most I have seen is 6 lbs..
All I have to say is ANGEL that wasnt very nice, everyone has their own issues and being BLUNT like that isnt necessary!  PULL BACK just a bit, u are here for your own problems, dont JUDGE!
Unless you ate 7000 extra calories, I don't believe it is possible that you gained 2 lbs in that week. It takes 3500 calories to gain or lose 1 lb. My weight can change by a few lbs at TTOM. Drink extra water and see how it goes : )
Last summer I would weigh 8 lbs more when I got on the scale for two or 3 days.  I realized I was eating waaaaaaaaay toooooooo muuuuuuuuch cheeeeeese and I had no idea of the sodium in cheese.  I cut waaaaaaaay back on the cheese and since then my wieght only goes up 2-3 lbs if I have a lot of soy sauce or only eat out of a can for a few days.
By the way.. Maybe I should just speak for myself, but... Don't we all have some type of an eating disorder, isn't that why we are all here for support and help?
In a day, my weight would fluctuate between 2-6 pounds. Like everyone else says, these fluctuations are mainly from salt, other random stuff, etc.
I've found that if I reduce sodium to a healthy level for a day, two days later I have as much as a 4 pound drop. (yes my typical sodium intake is way high) I normally drink 96 oz water a day. Soooo, I'm now watching the salt! ;-)  I LOVE CC and all the knowlege I've gained in my short time here!

Don't let angelpets response get to ya. Some are rather abrupt with their choice of words, but we're all here cuz we need help. ;-)
I think I would be afraid to weigh my self every day.  If I gained weight 2 or 3 days in a row I would probably get discouraged.  I am going to weigh myself once a week.  That way hopefully I will see some difference.
Hey thanks for all your advice- you guys are wonderful. :D And i've found out the reason behind this extra 2lbs- I've drunk less water thesedays. Probably that's why! Phew~

Perhaps I really shouldn't weigh myself too often :p yes, once a week seems the best solution :)

I fluctuated 12lbs (down) from yesterday to today!  waterweight's a b*tch!

Fluctuations are a normal part of our eating and our habits.  Too much sodium ... not enough water .... TTOM ... yadda yadda yadda.  The most I have fluctuated is about 7 lbs in a day.

At the risk of being "shunned" by this group ...  I want to add my two cents about angelpets comment.  While I certainly think the blunt approach may be a bit harsh ... what angelpets had to say has some merit.  Sytso, I looked back over your past posts to see what angelpets was elluding to with her comments ... and I have to say that I, too, think you should consider getting yourself some help.  I can't say you have "problem" or and "ED" but I certainly think that something is going on with you that may warrant some medical attention before you find your health seriously compromised.  Whatever is triggering your abnormal eating habits ... may have a simple medical solution ... maybe even an allergy ... since you seem to be able to pinpoint certain things that trigger your binges.  Maybe you have an allergy to fructose or sugar or something else.  Whatever is going on with you ... needs to be addressed by a doctor before you experience health problems that may seriously compromise you.

I apologize now if you feel I am out of line ... but I don't think I would be doing you any favors if I just simply commented on your question about weight fluctuations.  Especially since I know it will probably help you feel better ... and frankly, if you are still binging the way you have described in some of your previous posts ... your weight may very well have gone up because of that behavior and helping you to justify, rationalize or minimize your binging does not seem helpful in any way.  I am sincerely worried about you and do not want to offend you ... but simply avoiding the confrontation does not seem like the most appropriate, kind or helpful thing to do when your health is at stake.

I too gained 1 pound today (up from yesterday) and after reading these posts I went back and looked at the labels of some of the food I ate yesterday and was floored by the amount of sodium.  So I'll be sure to be more sodium conscious in the future.  By the way - anyone who's gained weight from too much sodium intake - when did you see your weight go back down?

Me too. I weighed 83.9 kg wednesday morning and 86.5 just now, after my breakfast, lunch, water, and snacks.

Surprised

Maybe it could also have something to do with me eating 3300 calories on wednesday....

6lbs as well after a long night at the Cheesecake Factory...rofl

I can swing as much as 8 lbs, maybe even more, with water weight.  Salt will definitely keep my water weight up for a few days.
