What's your birth control?
I've been on depo provera forever. I love it ... no periods, and all I have to remember is a doctor visit every three months. Today they told me I have to choose something new ... apparently depo is now linked with bone thinning and my doctor won't let anyone use it for more than two years in their whole lifetime.
What should I choose? Pregnancy is not an option. Has anybody been successful with natural family planning?

I've been using Mircette for years...probably about 6 yrs. Haven't had any problems with it. But got put on it initially for hormone imbalance that was laying me up with horrible (like, in bed not moving) cramping for 24 hrs the day my pd started.
I have some friends who had to stop using bc because she had bad reactions (mostly skin/sun related) when she was on it. I'm not sure if she ended up changing bc's or if they are just really good at it :-)

Seasonale! It comes in a 3 month pack; so no period for 3 months then one short and light one. I love it! Plus it really helped me with PMS symptoms. Good luck making the switch!
All good suggestions. I like the sound of Seasonale the best so far. It's funny, fifty years ago nobody would have thought having too many options would be something to worry about!!
You said that pregnancy was not an option,
What about abstaining!?!?!?

I have Mirena (sp?), it is an IUD but it is not the copper one mentioned above. I have had it for about a year now and you only have to have it replaced every 5 years, but it can be removed anytime.
It took a few months to stabilize, but now my periods are practically non-existent and I love it.

because I'm married, frothy!!!
Mine is menopause, and it's free!
Hee hee! Someday, claire, but not yet ...
Condoms...
I have two kids. Most reliable birth control there is, they seem to have some instinctual ability to interrupt and kill the mood any time, day or night. :P
Chocorific, that's probably the best method out there! But we've only been married for 7 months and I don't want to kill the mood quite yet ... ;-)
What I'm really interested in is if anyone has tried natural family planning. It's where you take your temperature everyday and (stop reading now if you're squeamish) check your discharge. That way you can track when you're ovulating and when it is and isn't safe to have unprotected sex. I'd really like to try something non-hormonal, but I'm a little nervous about how well it works ... just wondering if anybody out there has experience with it.

Sorry,
I can't help you, but I can write a randomly whacky statement!
You should abstain, then get your husband a mistress(one that looks like you)

Well,
you look damn good from here!
you make me laugh!

My best friend was using natural planning for 2 years but as soon as she got married she got pregnant lol.
After just being on depo for so long I would be careful about natural planning because it is going to take a while for your body to settle into a natural rythem again and it could give you mixed signals.
I honestly would just use condoms or a diaphram, clean your body out it can take a couple years after being on depo so when you are ready to have children you will actually be able to.

I'll second the Seasonale. It's great only having to deal with TOM every three months.
my personal choice for birth control method, administered 18 years ago, is the vasectomy. quite effective. :)
BF and I use the natural planning method, but we're also looking at it like, "Well, we'll do this because I don't want to be on any hormones, we WANT to try and get pregnant in about a year, and if I do get pregnant, well, then that's OK."
Natural Family Planning isn't very reliable, especially if your cycles are irregular or your husband has particularly strong "swimmers" :). I'm a Catholic and the Catholic Church teaches engaged couples all about NFP. However, the husband/wife instructors had 8 children, so it's hard to believe them when they say that NFP works. Also, every person I have ever known who has tried NFP has gotten pregnant. That's why I take the pill. Seasonale is great. I took it just for one three-month dose during my wedding/honeymoon time so that I had one less thing to worry about. Now I'm back to my regular pill packs.
