What's the deal with all the Twilight threads?
I'd never heard of Twilight until I saw that it was playing in my local theater. To which I said to myself "huh- who knew that so many young people would be interested in a Twilight Zone movie"
I mentioned this to a teen who told me she'd seen the movie, and she said it wasn't Twilight Zone, but something to do with vampires.
Is this supposed to be akin to the Harry Potter mania? (books, movies, merchandise, etc)
Are there any "grown-ups" that have read the books/seen the movie?
No. There are no grown-ups whatsoever that read Twilight. It's only a tween thing. ;p
wasn't Harry Potter supposed to be geared towards tweens too, though?
I've got a son who's almost 12, I'm just waiting for him to mention them, to which he will hear "no". Thank goodness he's into Garfield comics right now. If only I could get him hooked on the Hardy Boys!

I think it was originally, yeah. But.. Harry Potter has something Twilight doesn't.
Lennon glasses?

Harry Potter definitely has something Twilight doesn't, and not something 'older' adults would enjoy, but I'm 22 and have read the first two! They're enjoyable, but like Harry Potter, the movie doesn't look that great except maybe for tweens.
Why wouldn't you let your son read Harry Potter? I think they books are great :) I started reading them when I was 12!
I dunno, I guess the whole idea of witches/warlocks, spells and all. Surely there are other good fictional novels out there that don't deal with that stuff.
Mind you, the books I read when I was his age weren't great, like the Goosebump series. (he's not allowed to read those either)

Out of curiousity, I read up on the book series to see if it would be worth my while. Normally I don't rely on reviews for things like that, but based on the brief plot synopses, and the snippets I've read in the bookstore - if I want to read about a cliched, troubled, brilliant, anti-establishment, mysterious and misunderstood hero, I'll just read Byron. If want to go specifically with vampires, I'm more of an Ann Rice fan.
I have a feeling that if I went to see it, I would be disappointed.

wow that that poor kid.
i can't WAIT to read harry potter to my children. of course i'm confident that my children will be able to discern between reality and fantasy when they are 12-years-old.
Ok,,
I am an adult (i think) at 30 years old.. I read Twilight last Thursday, yep all but a few pages, and now I am already half way through the second book New Moon.
I love them. (maybe i am longing for those teenage years again)

My mom is a 'grown-up' who's read it (being a children's librarian, she keeps up with popular kids books).
Her reaction was "I couldn't believe how little actually happened, page after page of them just staring at each other, put me to sleep".

I can understand that, although for me going back to teenage years would precisely mean reading Byron and various pieces of gothic literature again.
You know....A while back, I had the same person recommend Twilight to me who had previously recommended Harry Potter to me. Being that she was right about HP and that I'm now a huge fan, I'd considered taking her up on her offer to lend me her Twilight books. However, I think I've changed my mind now. HP was fun and magical and just.....fun. I've decided that reading about a bunch of teenage angst is just not for me. Plus I hate hopping on bandwagons.....
I've read all the Twilight books. They're...alright. The first one's pretty good, then they just get kind of repetative. The romance is annoying and all the main character does is whine. I'm not saying it's a bad series, but I've read so many better books that haven't recieved this kind of attention.
I've heard the movie's worse, so I'm steering clear of it for sure.
LOL! well I'm nearly 30 and I've read all the Twilight books atleast 12 times. :) That said, I'm a huge romance novel reader, and I have a thing for Robert Pattinson, so thats got something to do with it...LOL

so...it's a teenage vampire romance story?

precisely.
Yes, basically....well, Bella is a teenager and it deals with highschool issues and all that, so yes. Edward is stuck at 17 while really he was born in 1901. :D
I'm almost 40 and read them at the insistence of an OLDER friend, the only conclusion I can come to about my friend is that she has just started reading books as a hobby and doesn't have the first clue as to what makes a good book. They were not the worst books I've read but pretty darn close. The first three were pretty much the same with nothing happening but the same crap. The 4th was a lot better, but I wish I'd have read something that was written by a more intelligent author. I am not that impressed with the author to say the least. Right now I'm reading World without End by John Follet, it's the sequel to Pillars of the Earth and is brilliantly written. If your looking for a page turner you should get Pillars and then read World without End. They are both over 900 pages but definitely worth your time.
