What's the deal with grams of food intake?
Ok so I have been watching my calories but on the analysis it shows the grams of food total. Why is this a concern? Should I monitor the grams I take in as well as the calories? I already have to take into account the carb, protein fat intake.
I just wnat to know the point of the gram calculator. Could someone please help?
It doesn't matter I don't think. The site simply uses grams as the measuring standard to assess caloric value of foods.
edit: oh, you're referring to this, right?
Sodium Intake
Daily Sugar Intake
Daily Cholesterol Intake
Daily Saturated Fat Intake
Daily Fiber Intake
I believe that there are suggested daily values for the listed items. This table is used to assess how you stack up. I think that so long as you maintain a healthy diet, these values should line up nicely for you.
You may find, though, that your fiber intake is low for instance. Based on the table results you can up your fiber.
So there was a day that I only ate like 1400 calories but the gram calculator said something like 2300 grams. And there was another day I ate like 1700 calories and the gram calculator said like 1400 grams. Does this not have a bearing on how much weight I would loose?
Grams are just a measurement of weight. 100 grams of lettuce does not have the same amount of calories as 100 grams of peanut butter. Calories are what matter, how much your food weighs - not so much.
You can get a more accurate measure of the calories in a food by using it's weight in grams, as opposed to 1/2 a cup. My 1/2 a cup and your 1/2 a cup may be different (slightly), but 30g is 30g. :-)
I haven't seen very many people pay attention to total grams. You'd have to put in all the water to be accurate anyway. Who cares? I can see watching fat grams & fiber for health, but it's just calories that matter for weight loss. It's complicated enough without worrying about superfluous information.
i notice that days my gram intake is hiher i do better at losing weight. the more you eat the better your metabolism works
i find that foods with a higher gram to calorie ratio keep me feeling fuller longer. and, now that i'm reading nutrition labels more/better, i am a LOT less likely to buy the processed snack foods because see how little quantity i'll actually be getting for the amount of calories involved.
Thanks to all - all great information!!
