What's the deal?! I went up 2 lbs.!!!
Okay...so I've been getting on the scale the last few days and creeped up 2 lbs...
Is this normal? It's irritating me because I am working out like normal (no big changes there)...The only thing I can think is I had a few glasses of wine here and there and a few more carbs than normal...
Trying not to get discouraged because I know this is a long process. Any words of wisdom will help...
Thanks

Has your sodium increased/water intake decreased?
This is exactly why I came to the community today. I was SSSOOO good yesterday! I didn't cheat and exercised. I was excited to get on the scale today and found that I had GAINED 1.2 pounds since then (although I know that it is suggested that we don't weigh everyday I find it keeps me on track)! That is so discouraging.
Annnoying huh?
I'm trying to tell myself...it's water or the fact that I missed a workout Wednesday...decided to stay off the scale for a few days until Sat am so I don't get so mad.
Going to keep up water, low refined carbs and more protein. Just ate some cottage cheese and had a special k bar for bfast this am before workout.
Glad I'm not the only one....

Hi all!
I know I feel bloated the next day after having a couple of beers. Drink lots of water to flush your system, or try (like I am trying) to not have alcohol during the week. I only (again the key word is TRY) only to indulge on the weekends. After a few days you may notice a difference.

where are you in your cycle? i gain weight before my period, lose it (and then some!) after....
I'm having the same problem. I got on the scale yesterday, and was up
2.5 pounds. Very discouraging. I've been going to the gym 5 days a
week. I'm doing 55 mins of cardio. 30 mins on the elliptical, and now
increased the stepper to 25 mins. Then i do some strength training. I
have also cut back on my cals, to 1500 a day. When i see the scale go
up, it makes me want to eat!!! I drink 8-10 glasses of water per day.
What is going on? I've been going to the gym since november, and
have only lost 4 pounds!!! Help. Need advice. :(
You've probably gained muscle. Have you measured your inches? I worked with a VERY tiny girl (probably size 0) who (at that time) weighed more than I did. She was an Olympic runner. Muscle ABSOLUTELY weighs more than fat, and I couldn't believe what she actually weighed. She was really healthy though, and could eat a lot!
After reading the replies to poohct I am going to seriously watch my salt intake. Hopefully that is why my weight increased today (I didn't work out enough for it to be muscle!)

1lb water, 1lb food?
it could be anything - water weight, muscle mass increase, etc. don't get discouraged, just keep up the good work. it will even itself out. i don't get on the scale unless i have to - i stick with a tape measure and my clothes to guage my efforts. scales fluctuate waaaaaay too much for me
You should really only weigh yourself like once a week. Our weight fluctuates each day. To really tell if your weight increased or decrease you should have a week pass before weighing yourself again. Well, you can weigh yourself just don't put too much pressure on yourself. If you keep with your diet and exercise nothing horrible will happen.
I'm with you, poohct! I posted an almost identical message to a different forum earlier this morning - and though I don't wish this frustration on anyone, it's heartening to see that I'm not alone. I used to weigh myself only occasionally to make sure I was staying on track, but since I started this new kick, I have to do it every day. It all started when I stepped on the scale about 10 days ago for the first time in a while and had gained 4 lbs without noticing it!
I lost 3 immediately (probably due to my period, though) and then was back up 2 a couple days later. Then down 2 and now back up 1.5...very very frustrating.
BUT I'm determined not to let this week ruin my determination. The mathematics says that if we keep doing what we're doing (1500 cals minus what we burn with all that exercise), we WILL lose the weight...it just may take the long trend to get there.
I'll keep it up if you do!

I don't feel quite so bad now. I was about to give up. I gained 2.6 pounds after working so hard to lose. I'll have to press on, and so will you. ;)
Temporary weight fluctuations are meaningless. The way to track your progress is to record your weight on your weight log once a week or less. Over the course of several months you will see the green trend line sloping downward. All the little ups and downs become meaningless and you see the real progress you've made. Be patient!
So after yesterday's spin class and even lower caloric intake than usual, I could not WAIT to get on the scale this morning. Guess what. I was UP again - a half pound! I kicked the scale back into its hiding place between the toilet and the sink and went to the other bathroom to um...use the bathroom (just number one). :-) I decided to try it again after that and without my pajamas on. It made a whole POUND of difference. So technically, I'm down a half pound from yesterday! Yippee!! Try it sometime...no excess water in your bod and no clothes on!
