In traditional Chinese medicine, there are 5 'elements' thought to govern the world and each other: Fire, Water, Earth, Wood, and Metal.

It's kind of like a zodiac thing, only it does have a basis in your physical body too - like one of the elements is associated with having oily skin, another with having a tendency to blush furiously, and so forth. The elements reflect both your mind and body (according to their tradition).

This quiz is sort of a short cut way to find out which element is dominant for you.  But my result matched the 5-page quiz I took last night from the book I'm reading about Chinese medicine.

Thought I'd share - just something that's interesting.

I finally ended up as Wood.  Some of the questions were tough because I would have been ok with 2 answers but since I could only pick one I tried to pick the closest.  Not sure if those answers would have changed my element but the discription seems close enough.

what were you?

Is there a site that describes all the elements?
I was metal.  Interestingly enough, most of the description was accurate.
Mine was water.
I haven't found any really good sites that describe the characteristics of each element yet.

This one shows a chart with the associated color, season, taste, sense, body organs, etc. for each element.

I wish I had brought the book to work with me (I work in a library - d'oh!) but I'll see if I can post more info on each element tomorrow - I'm about to head out of town.

I'm an Earth type, btw, and the description for me seemed pretty accurate too.  Last night as I was reading the book I could tell that my bf is definitely a wood.  (And I do not mean that in any kind of dirty way!)

Interestingly, some of the physical descriptions and stuff kind of coincided with Coachdee's post about body types. So I thought it was interesting.
I'm fire. and it was scary accurate.
I'm fire. I'm always fire. :p I wonder why that is...
This was very interesting. I'm confused though. I turned out to be light, which doesn't appear as one of the five elements.
Water

"Water is the giver of life, but also the taker. We as humans cannot exist without it, but the wrath of Water can rival even the hottest flame. Water Elemental people are kind, calm and nurturing. Always willing to help others before themselves. Other often find solace and even relaxation in their presence, especially animals and children. Just as Water can find its way through any obstacle, so can these people adapt to whatever troubles life gives them. They reach out to help those in need, if not direct aid then with empathy and sympathy. They are very in tune with the emotions of others. Personal relationships are very important and if a friend is ever threatened, the full might of Water is brought to bear. They find themselves incapable of harboring grudges and believe that any individual can be forgiven for any transgression, no matter how severe. They are also artistic, perferring the visual medium to convey a reflection of their emotions."
I was FIRE.  Just like me!
I'm water too, and it was more accurate than I expected it to be. Kinda scary:)
Fire, baby.
I'm Light . . . only 7% of people are that . . . interesting . . .
My result was Earth.

The description seemed pretty accurate.  Interesting, I hadn't heard of that type of personality test before.
I am a "light" too.
One of you "light" people needs to copy and paste what "light" means. I'm curious!
i'm a "light" too...it says:

"Light shines throughout the world, reaching every corner of every heart.  Light Elemental individuals share this illuminating quality, preferring the intellect over the physique.  They devote themselves to study and reading, believing that intelligence is the best tool.  They are not, however, to be confused with "book worms," since they are far too outspoken and active to be considered shy.  Oftentimes, however, they fill their minds so full of rhetoric that they neglect more practical knowledge.  They are obsessed with truth and honesty, never lying themselves and always seeking to expose hidden truths.  According to their philosophy, nothing can stay a secret forever.  They are also somewhat arrogant, believing their own ideals to be superior, and not being afraid to let others know.  They are also very vocal and opinionated, using the medium of writing to carry their views to the ears of others. "

Beth beat me to it!  I'm a light too.  :)
i'm a light too..
I'm not sure, but Light could be a combination type in which two elements are sort of co-dominant.

I'm about to drive to my weekend destination this morning (stopped in Greensboro last night), so when I get to Mom's house this afternoon, I'll post more info from the book I have. Maybe this evening after we've caught up.

But there are five combination types that are more common than other combinations: wood/water, earth/water, fire/metal (I wonder if that one is Light), fire/wood, and... blast what's the last one.... I think earth/metal.

There is one other type that apparently is extremely rare in which no one element dominates the others -- all are in perfect balance. Wonder what that's like....
