since I started changing my eating habits I have tried to keep my two early meals at about 300 cals give or take a few cals. and dinner about 400 cals and supplement between my three meals with low cal snacks. I'm on a 1250 cal a day allowance(but i don't hold it religiously and give myself some extra cals a couple days a week), plus I like to have a menu for the day to help me stick to my guns. so I thought it would be nice to have a place to reference some meal options, not just for me but for everyone. I hear alot about folks curious what a low cal meal option would be. so here it is :D don't be shy, lets hear your favorite meal.

my favorite meal is breakfast: 4 scrambled egg whites (seasoned with a sprinkle of seasoning salt, no butter) (68), whole wheat toast (69) topped with sugar free strawberry jam (10), 1 packet of sugar free maple and brown sugar flavored instant oatmeal (100) and 1/2 cup of 2% lowfat milk (61) = 308 cals

great suggestions so far folks keep it up!!!!

I like to try new recipes all the time, so really I rarely make the same meals.  I would love inexpensive easy lunches I could take to work that fit the 300-400 calorie range so will look for ideas.  My dinner tonight qualified for a good candidate.

Turkey Soft Tacos (can probably find recipe online at www.lightandtasty.com - do a search on the name above); romaine lettuce and a serving of Good Seasons Raspberry Poppy Seed Low Fat Dressing (although sometimes I make my own dressings too.)

For 384 cals you can be Soooooo FULL on this meal!!  This is my own creation and we love it.  Pretend to be Asian KimChi Beef stir fry.

On med-high Cook beef in wok or large pan with the KimChi, hoisin, oyster sauce and little liquid from the KimChi jar.  Add veggies and cover for about 5 min or just till zuchinni is cooked.  Serve in a large bowl over 1 serving rice.  This is so much food and great for when you are very hungry but want to keep lower cals.

(15)  1/4 cup KimChi (found at the asian grocery store in the cooler.... it is spicy pickled cabbage),

(20) 1 cup chopped zuchinni

(25) 1/2 a yellow pepper

(83) 50g at raw weight outside round beef cut for stir fry (83),

(21) 1/2 Tbspm Hoisin sauce (asian grocery)

(5) 1/2 tsp oyster sauce

(30) 1/2 can water chestnuts

(25) 1/2 can of bamboo shoots

(160) 1 serving (1/4 cup) white jasmine rice

Made this once already this week and loved it! It's my recipe:

my lunch is a ham sandwich:

1 slice of reduced fat ham(46), 2 slices of tomato (5), 5 slices of pickles(5), 2 slices of whole wheat bread (138), light ranch salad dressing (instead of mayo)(70) = 264 cals

BOLOGNA SANDWICH (150 CALORIES)

2 slices of Oroweat Light Whole Wheat Bread (40 + 40 = 80)

2 slices Oscar Meyer Fat Free Bologna (25 + 25 = 50)

1 TBS light Miracle Whip (20)

A few leaves of lettuce

ONE WHOLE CAN CAMPBELL'S CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP (150 CALORIES)

** If you are willing to go over a wee bit, you can add a few cherry tomatoes, a few radishes, and/or a dill pickle or two to munch with your sandwich.

** Sugar-Free Jello for dessert (10 calories)

NOTE: You can always buy the low sodium version of Campbell's soup.

mollymouser.i've read that we shouldn't eat processed meats.so i have quit eating sandwiches like yours.sure do miss them.do you have any problem with weight lose due to eating even the low fat oscar meyer.at one time i would but hotdogs fat free so i could have a hotdog when everyone else did,but then got concerned about the sodium content.leaves me wanting a sandwich quite often.also read a article that said i should use honey as  a sweetner instead of my splenda or other alternative.said your body knows how to break down better.any thoughts on any of this.

( it's oscar...)
I have recipes for Shrimp Scampi and Mini Meat Loaves that are both under 400 calories, even with spaghetti or mashed potatoes. They are both from Cooking Light. My mom subscribes to it and I started getting it when I got married. Almost every dinner I make comes from that magazine. It's the best!

my newfound breakfast nachos

10 corn chips(whole not broken) (130),

4 scrambled egg whites (68),

2 tbsp tostitos salsa con queso(40),

2 tbsp regular salsa (10)

1/2 cup diced tomatos(16),

1 slice of ham diced up(46)

= 310 cals

tempest7595, what brand oatmeal do you use?

I love eating half a pack of Quaker white cheddar rice cakes for lunch. :P I'm in Grade 10, so sometimes the convience and the taste fit perfectly. =] 280 calories for 7 rice cakes (half the pack) and I'm left satisfied. It's probably the highest calorie thing I eat at once... I don't normally eat meals as I'm a huuuuge snacker.

about 4 large steamed shrimp and half a cup of steamed chinese veggies with a cup of steamed rice and a serving wich happens to be 2 becuase their mini of spring rolls. And of course have to have the chinese cookie. The shrimp is 22 cals the rice 205 the spring rolls like 120 and the cookie is 70 so maybe nix the cookie. and the veggies are roughly 11 calories. or have half a cup of rice and keep the cookie. all of that not including th fortune cookie is 358.

Plus I dont have to cook any of it. My local chinese store does it for me.
any good canned soup (usually worth 220 cal) with a shredded La Tortilla (burrito size) in it. it helps bulk up the possibly not so filling soup (altho the soups are filling for me even without).

oooo ok i know yoghurt is good for you as its full of protein.

so what i do for 300 calories, as i have a sweet tooth, i have one of my mini meals as a dessert :)

one jordans wholegrain cereal bar with raisins = 122 cal

one activia forest fruit yoghurt pot = 67 cals

5/6 chocolate raisin (pathetic i know) and some sultanas

80g worth of rasberries and strawberries.

break up the cereal bar and lay on bottom of bowl, then cut strawberries and raspeberries and layer on top!pour the creamy fruity yoghurt over this and sprinkle choclate raisins and sultanas on top!300 cals of fruity sweet yummy good dessert food! lol
yesterday i had a sprouted grain wrap with two tbsp of hummus, cherry tomatos, cucumber, baby romaine lettuce, and chopped carrots. add a huge plate of salad with romaine, more veggies and a drizzle of balsamic....and you have a massive amount of really healthy food for 300 cals. plus its delicious.
A great, low-calorie meal is ratatouille.  There are lots of ways you can do it, but the way I do it is chop up a bunch of zucchini, eggplant, tomatoes, onions, and a little garlic, and either microwave it or bake it in the oven, depending on how much time I have.  If you eat it by itself, it's extremely filling, but it's nowhere near 300 calories, so to get the calorie count up, you could add shrimp or chicken, or serve it over rice or pasta and add a little parmesan cheese.  It's delicious and really packs in the vegetables.
A reeeeally good burrito for 375 calories.

150 calorie (or less) tortilla (burrito size)
1c vegetarian refried beans (120 calories)
1/4c reduced fat cheese (80 calories)
Shredded lettuce (25 calories tops)

It is very filling and has got some good protein/fiber. The refried beans are actually only 2g of fat, but you have to ge the vegetarian kind (the other has some gross stuff in it).
You can also add salsa, vegetables, hot sauce, or low fat sour cream.

A stir fry of chicken, turkey kilbasa (sp?), or very lean steak with slices bell peppers, onions, and snow peas (but you can put almost anything in a stir fry). Use Pam instead of olive oil.
I guess this would be about 300 calories, but I don't know for sure, very tastey though!

It is also easy to copy any frozen entree you see. They'd be a lot healthier too, as most of them use enriched flour and contain lots of sodium.
