Whats your favorite healthy cookbook???

Hey all! I am looking into buying a cookbook (healthy one of course) and was wondering what your guys favorite healthy cookbooks are!!

I'm not into making anything too fancy.. so nothing too complicated Laughing

I know someone must have a good healthy cookbook that i should know about! Laughing
I've just started picking up cooking light in the supermarket aisle...not bad, but also not my fave. I really like the cooking light COOKBOOK - ie just the recipes!
"1,000 Lowfat Recipes" by Terry Blonder Golson

This book has easy to follow instructions and lots of good tips on cooking and nutrition.  Each recipe lists the calories and nutritional content per serving. And for those who don't know how to cook anything, there are even some beginner-type recipes like "White Rice" or "Hard-Boiled Egg"!

I have one called "The Dieters Cookbook". The ones I've tried so far are really good. It also has a picture of each recipe (which I love) and lists nutritional content. Hmmm, I might need to bust that baby out tonight, I have no idea what to have for dinner.

The Essential Eating Well Cookbook

 

It has a wide variety of delicious, well-rounded recipes and lots of helpful tips on techniques, picking out obscure vegetables, etc.  The EatingWell philosophy on nutrition is just really solid in my opinion, and I have loved every cookbook from them that I have ever bought. 

'Ultimate Food for Ultimate Health and Dont forget the chocolate' - Liz Pearson and Mairlyn Smith.

This book is my bible and if my house was burning down I would grab this over anything else. its written by two great ladies one is a nutritionist who uses half the book to talk about foods and what foods are best for you and what fights all different diseases. and the other half is written by a chef who takes all of what the nutritionist has said and puts it into every day recipes. I have about 10 of her dishes a week they are so easy, I made her brocoli and cheese soup at the weekend 190 cals and it was so filling I could not finish it!! This is not a faddy diet book either, more of a education into eating and living well.

I really like Cooking Light also.  They do special "all-recipe" additions that you can sometimes find in the magazine rack at places like target or walmart.  They're nice because they have 20 or 30 recipes and are very inexpensive.

I have fix and forget it-lightly--it's okay, but actually not my favorite.  There are no pictures, and there's just so many recipes in there--they all seem a bit redundant.  I wish they would half the number of recipes, but pick out the better ones so I don't have to waste my time with the lame ones, you know?

My favorite low-cal cookbook is one I picked up at a used book sale for 50 cents--it's called "Eat Great, Lose Weight," by Jane Kirby and David Joachim.  It has lots of pictures, and good general dieting advice.  They used stories and recipes from people on the national database of having lost a lot of weight and kept it off.  It's very motivating, and I looove the recipes--best 50 cents I ever spent! 

"The Eat - Clean Diet Cookbook" by Tosca Reno.

It's absolutely amazing. The recipes are so tasty and super easy to prepare (she also gives vegetarian, vegan & gluten free options). There are desserts, holiday meals & even low calorie alcoholic beverages in the book. Tosca's recipes are healthy and delicious & every one has a full page colour picture. 

Also, the author was overweight herself and now looks absolutely amazing because of "eating clean" and weightlifting. This cookbook is all about healthy whole foods and as little packaged food as possible. I love it!

I have three that I like pretty well.

"The American Heart Association Cookbook" is an excellent resource for recipes that are heart healthy and low fat.

The "WeightWatchers New Complete Cookbook" is good as well.  I just got this one recently.

The last one is "How to Cook Everything Vegetarian".  This is a great resource for good ways to add more vegetables to your diet in a flavorful way. 

Other than that, I like to experiment with the recipes in all of my other cookbooks (I own at least 20 of them).  There are lots of ways that you can take a recipe and make it healthier by making simple substitutions, reducing salt, etc.

Oh yeah, I have that one too--it is very good, I agree.  But the recipes are sometimes a little time-consuming...

I used to work at LA WeightLoss, and that's probably the best cookbook I have. The recipes are freaking amazing. (Aside from the ones where you have to use thier wierd products)

My mom also bought me a cookbook that has the calories, fat, fibre, protein, and vitamins listed for each recipe. It also has alot of helpful tips on getting all of your food groups in, and preparing healthier snacks. I can't remember the name of it though.

Any cookbook that has the nutritional info is a bonus, because then you won't have to use the analyzer on here.. it just makes things easier.

I consider time consuming recipes a bonus because they mean that I am on my feet instead of sitting, chopping, mixing, and otherwise getting in activity that I otherwise wouldn't.  So the recipes are not only healthier, but preparing them burns more calories.  ;)
    What ones did you decide on, and can you recommend them on??

It is also well loved and well worn. 101 Cookbooks is a great on-line source for healthy recpies.

My wife and I just started using using the American Heart Associations "Meals in minutes" cookbook; every recipe is low fat and cholesterol. So far all of the emails have been very easy to prepare, taste great and satisfying.

I second the Moosewood cookbook! My nautropatic doctor had me buy one and it's SO great!!!
