What's your Favorite Music?

I'm a big Top 40/Alternative music fan.  Trying to get a playlist together with music that's great for running.  What are your favorites?

The best music for running is techno with a strong beat. Normally I wouldn't listen to it any other time but you have a song with a strong beat that matches you every time you take a step its like magic.

not sure your specific tastes, but here are a couple good ones, most that aren't top 40 though:

The Ting Tings- "Great D.J." I could seriously listen to this song on repeat when I'm on the eliptical, just a catchy tune.

Cloud Cult-  "Story of the Grandson of Jesus." A super upbeat song! There other stuff is pretty mellow, but this one has a more fast beat.

The Young Knives- "Up all night" Again, fast paced song.

Kate Nash- "Foundations" Nice pop song.

The Glands- "Swim"

I also enjoy 80's pop and found that if you go to VH1's website you can get a complete list of the top 100 songs of the 80's and download the ones of your choosing! Like "Take on Me"- Aha.

I love running to Rage Against the Machine, I dont know why but their angry lyrics and awesome beat really get me pumped! other than that anything with a beat helps.

here, here! "Renegades of Funk" is my go-to song for exercising.

Right now the band that gets me happiest (which then makes me want to exercise more) is anything by The Scissor Sisters...but particularly Take Your Mama...it's on my playlist on my myspace if you wanna listenCool.

I'm huge into U2. Every day I have to listen to the same CD-U2's Greatest Hits, which is personally my favorite CD to workout to. It's so motivational and calming, but not too calm and not too hyped up. Perfect mixture of both worlds. And Bono's voice just makes my day amazingly better.

Oooh my taste is so different from everyone elses, I'm not even saying

I like to listen to anything heavy, Metallica, Disturbed, System of Down, etc.  Lately I've learned to really like Flyleaf.  Overall anthing heavy is good for me.

I love the blues.  When I used to do a lot of walking outside, the tape (tells you how old I am) I always put in was by Roomful of Blues - Dance all night, upbeat, fast great music to really move to.

Mmmm, a load of French techno like Daft Punk, Justice, Kavinsky and Sebastian is great to work out to.

I love Bon Jovi and Daughtry. Just saw them both in concert....amazing, I may never come down off that buzz! Some songs that really get goin are

Bon Jovi

Lay Your Hands On Me

Livin On A Prayer

Runaway

Bad Medicine

You Give Love A Bad Name

Keep The Faith

I Believe

I'll Sleep When I'm Dead

Blame It On The Love Of Rock n' Roll

Little Bit of Soul

Have A Nice Day

Damned

Hey God

Somethin for The Pain

We Got It Goin On

Lost Highway

Summertime

Any Other Day

Story of My Life

It's My Life

Daughtry

It's Not Over

Over You

Crashed

What I Want

Breakdown

There And Back Again

What About Now

Ditto... Pretty much anything heavy works for me, although I like dance versions of Top 40 songs and 90s dance music when I'm running.

I listen to Alice in Chains or Stone Temple Pilots as I cool down and stretch and stuff.

AH YES! RAGE- Killing in the Name of & Calm like a Bomb-- KILLER angry lyrics to just hit it hard while warming or getting over a distance hump/time with the running !

nickleback - favorite damn disease i like as an angry picker upper too-- but i seriously dislike nickleback otherwise!

Rancid- time bomb

STP- Unglued or Sex type Thing

eminem - lose yourself- makes me crank out higher max weights! only song of his i would listen to ever! T-Rex - Get it On -  makes me pump well too!

chevelle - i get it - i just like this bit of anger song when in a good mid-run groove

bon jovi- runaway - ugh, i'm a jersey girl & while i don't like BJ- i remember this song when I was a youngin--

& for NJ girls as well-

Bruce Springsteen - Radio Nowhere is good mid-range run song - and Thunder Road great to do right after warm up & when ur pace is picking up beyond that get warmed up spot

Motley Crue - Kickstart my Heart (am i dating my age here or what?)

Disturbd - down with the sickness- makes me killer hard push...

nine inch nails- closer- i *love* this song for a cool down-- makes me want to find my husband and get it on after a hard workout! (burn more kcals too, lol)

i'll take any fast Bush music or old GnR fast stuff- Think about You is great! Foofighters --

ugh, could go on & on...

hardcore and metal mostly,

wow...i could go on and on.

for metal and hardcore pumping out a workout i def have to go with:

Nine inch nails--survivalism; some rammstein; distrubed--down with the sickness; Rage against the machine--bulls on parade (loved it WAY before its re-emergence on guitar hero III...hah); flyleaf--I'm so sick.

I like to mix up the metal with rap (yes) because generally the songs have an awesome beat to jog or bike to and they keep me in rhythm. Ones I like are: Breath, Stretch, Shake by Mase; The Seed 2.0 by the roots; most kanye; Encore by eminem; Let's go by lil' jon and trick daddy.

Finally, I love throwing in a random techno song to keep a steady, even beat when the going gets pretty tough (usually near the last quarter of the workout). Ones I like are Rock Star by N*E*R*D*; Praise You by Fatboy slim; and Pump up the Jam (awesome beat).

For stretching, definitely something much more calm as my heartbeat comes down and I focus on stretching the muscles and regaining my breath! I find Postal Service to be pretty chill during this period.

So yeahhhh, my playlist is pretty varied, but I think each type of music suits the specific part of the workout that I do while listening. It definitely keeps it interesting.  Laughing

Lol.

Bad Touch by The Bloodhound Gang.

It may not be the typical workout song but it makes me laugh.

I love the mixes at Podrunner.com.  Just choose your tempo, sync up your iPod, and off you go!

Justice, The Presets, Shiny Toy Guns, Simian Mobile Disco, Goldfrapp, Klaxons for electronica/dance

The Used, Paramore, Silverstein, Emery for pop-punk/heavier emo

Kanye, Lady Sovereign, M.I.A, Timbaland for Hip hop etc.

I like to mix in slower songs, especially for cardio because I push it really hard on the fast songs and need a breather. Anything with a good beat gets me going.
