all alone - gorillaz

hey thanks :) I've never heard it before, and just looked it up - thanks :D i really like it!

I don't listen to anything because I like to know what's going on around me (traffic, muggers, etc)  but I pass the time when running by trying to recall every song in a particular musical in the right order.   Oliver! is a good one....  starts with 'Food Glorious Food', then 'Oliver', 'Boy for Sale', 'Where is Love?'....  my very own internal I-pod. Smile   Tonight.  'Sound of Music'....   The hills are alive... la-la-la...

In the gym I'm lifting weights, so I prefer less melodic, more pronounced bass, and rythmically stable music. It creates something like a droning effect that helps me focus, yet entertains and helps me maintain an energy level as I wear myself out. In fact, I only enjoy rap music when lifting weights. Too $hort's "shorty the pimp" was the last album i had on repeat in the gym. Tool's album "10000 days" has a few songs that are quite rythmic but musically sparse, which I also enjoy.

Our tastes seem to differ a bit, but I'm going to make a "workout playlist" as I start doing more cardio, and I think I'll start with yours and sprinkle some of my own flavor on it. Thanks!

Running on Empty - Jackson Browne

I also use several hundred different songs for my long cardio runs which I listen too and depending on my mood is what I listen too.  Lately its a lot of country and top 40 music.   The hard part for me is picking (several thousands of CDs) so I just pull a 6 disc and let it play on random.

If I run outside I take a preloaded ipod from the songs off my CDs.  I use several run lists I loaded to chose from based on the length of the run.

I work out to Wii Fit Plus, and it has its own (somewhat annoying) music.  For other work outs I listen to the soundtrack for Top Gun.

a really good one is "Get Free" and "Paint It Black" by The Vines. i find "Get Free" is better, it really gives you a rev, specially good for running. If you like techno stuff then "Omen" by Prodigy, maybe "Bonkers" by Dizee Rascal and alot of Pendulum, but that can sometimes become mind numbing. Alot of Rise Against  like "Behind Closed Doors" "Survive" (thats a good one when it get into it) "The Strength to Go On". If you don't mind a little screaming Bullet For My Valentine has two good songs "Hearts Bursts into Fire" and "Curses". they both start off slow and build up, which i personally love in a workout/running song. hope that helps, though to answer your question, "Get Free" is the best, just turn it up haha.

I have these on mine too!

I mostly listen to a lot of high energy hip hop when I work out. Namely Jay-Z and Lil Wayne. :)

Sometimes I put Linkin Park on though if I'm in a really aggressive mood. :)

I readily admit that I am both old school and old, so some of these songs would have been hits long before many of you were born--but they are all upbeat and really get me cranked while lifting or walking fast or hitting the heavy bag:

  • John Stewart -- Gold
  • Patty Labelle -- Lady Marmelade
  • Animals -- See, See Rider
  • Elvis Presley -- Jailhouse Rock
  • Elvis Presley -- Heartbreak Hotel
  • Elton John -- I'm Still Standing
  • Ringo Starr -- It Don't Come Easy
  • George Harrison -- Got My Mind Set on You

Here are some that get me revved-up that are a bit more recent:

  • Jerry Reed -- East Bound and Down
  • Bryn Christopher -- Quest
  • Waldeck -- Make My Day

Give it all you got - lil Jon and Kree

Wrong - Depeche mode

Savior - rise against

Undead/no.5 - hollywood undead

Inside this fire - Disturbed

tik tok - Ke$ha

sexy b!tch - david guetta/akon

If I want to - Cali

Flashing lights - Kanya west

Fire burning - sean kingston

Starstrukk - 3oh!3

nothing special - Illscarlett

True believer - Dragonette

I could go on these are my 'top' songs at the moment..makes me wanna dance :)

Depends on what I am doing or what kind of mood I'm in when I am working out.  Usually it is heavy metal/alternate rock like Iron Maiden, Rage Against the Machine, Dokken, Tool, etc.  It seems to get my blood flowing and keeps me going for the duration of the workout.

Fire- Ohio Players..

Brick house-The commodores.

Hot child in the city-Nick Gilder

Domino- Kiss

Looks that Kill- Motley Crue

Dress you up in my love - Madonna

How Far we come- Matchbox 20

Feeling stronger every day- Chicago

I like anything with a strong build up...even if it starts off kinda slow, but my favs (right now) are:

Rage against the machine (angry music makes me push harder lol)
Just dance-Lady Gaga

Best workout song of all time: It's my Life - Bon Jovi

or Have a Nice Day - Bon Jovi

My spin instructor actually knows my obsession with these songs and plays them especially for me sometimes. HAha. One day she pointed at me and was like "This one's for you", I felt like I was at a concert. Haha.

Others:

Womanizer - Brittany Spears

My current Short Workout Playlist:

I Like the Way You Move - Bodyrockers

Bodies - Drowning Pool

Right Round - Flo Rida

Don't Stop Me Now - Queen

Standing in the Way of Control - The Gossip

I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho) - Pitbull

Here is a tiny contribution from a slightly different taste...

M.I.A. - Paper Planes

OK Go - Invincible

Hot Chip - Over and Over

Goldfrapp - Satin Chic

Modest Mouse - Float On

Sharing songs like this is a great idea.  I've been wanting something really punchy to make a playlist just for the gym!

The Tomb Raider soundtrack. Sounds lame, but I exercise to the beat, and most of the soundtrack keeps me at about 6.0 MPH on the elliptical.

Right Around the Corner & Boss Lady by The Detroit Cobras
