I've seen a lot of people in this forum comment on how they like Greek yogurt so I picked up one, Oiknos or something like that, to try it out. I've read though that it can taste a lot different than other yogurt (I usually eat the non-fat Yoplait and add granola) so I was wondering what the best way was to eat my new yogurt without going "YUCK!" after the first bite. I am open to adding fruits or granola to it but didn't know if the yogurt itself has a sour or different taste than what I am used to.

Thanks!

Add honey, it's delicious.

You can start by adding a large amount, and slowly decrease the amount you add.

At first I hated the taste of Greek yogurt, now I can eat it almost plain.

MMM I love Greek Yogurt, but yes I am not a huge fan of the more sour taste, although I have gotten used to it over time.

Since I mainly eat it for the high protein low sugar content, I try not to add any sugars to it. I put either 2 splendas or 2 tbsp of sugar free strawberry or raspberry preserve which gives it a nice sweet and fruity taste.

I also make a killer cucumber dill dip with it, (Dill, onion, garlic, salt, pepper and lemon juice)

mmm..

I've always wanted to try this, I've seen it as a substitute for cream cheese and stuff in creamy pasta sauces.

which section of the grocery store is it in.... I remember casually looking for it one time.

I add sweetener then mix it with stuff- blueberries, sliced banana, cereal, etc. Current favorite is chopping and microwaving an apple, then mixing in greek yogurt and granola.

I also like the fage 2% twinpots mixed with all-bran and raisins, or (and yes, this sounds weird) on top of cold oatmeal!

I put Crystal Light powder in mine and it's soooo good.

My father, Syrian,  made yogurt -it was wonderful.   I never had sweet yogurt until it got popular - still don't like it as well.  I eat non-fat yogurt now and may add some peanuts and cucumber.

I hated plain yogurt the first time I tried it too - especially Greek yogurt. Probobly because all my mom ever gave me when I was younger was the HFCS-packed Yoplait flavors. Bleh. Hardly "yogurt" at all. More like a little milk with gelatin and sugar fillers.

Now, however, I go through about three or four 32 oz. containers of yogurt a week, as well as several small Chobani Greek yogurt cups. I LOVE yogurt - I eat it plain as well as with toppings and stir-ins. Granola is a definite favorite, but my all-time most loved topping is actually ground flaxseeds and banana. I have some every night before bed.

I've started making my own yogurt too, and I think it's even better than the store-bought varieties. Plus, you can strain the whey to your desired consistency, which I like because I prefer a thicker yogurt.

I love mixing 1/2 cup yogurt (either greek, french vanilla, anything really) with either 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce or pureed pumpkin, a packet of splenda and some cinnamon.  Tastes SOOO good and is SOOO filling.  A great snack.

Thanks for the info, everyone! Keep it coming! I am looking forward to trying out your various recommendations.

Happy new year!

In my grocery store it's just with the yogurt, I buy fage 0%. I use it as a substitute for sour cream or as a mayo substitute in tuna salad (it doesn't taste the same but kind of does the same thing of holding it together and making it creamy) plus a little dijon mustard and maybe something totally different like apples.

I also mix in anythign to it that I would mix into my oatmeal, fresh fruit, cinnamon, pumpkin, applesauce, etc.

I love yogurt so much! I always buy plain and mix in things like honey, pure maple syrup, fruit, nuts, cereal, cinnamon, or ground flaxseed.

I make oatmeal in the micro then mix in some greek yogurt(vannilla) and then add equal and cinnamon!  Tastes awesome!

I consider Greek yoghurt one of my favourite snacks. I work in a cafe-restaurant and we stock packages of Greek Yoghurt from 'The Greek Yoghurt Company' in a variety of flavours [it has the fruity stuff in the bottom and you can mix it through or whatever]. My absolute favourite is the muesli one. It's not very popular because it's one third muesli, but to me it's perfection.

tlstot, that sounds really good. I'll have to try it.

I love to add frozen cherries and just a touch of agave nectar.  The frozen cherries crystalize the yogurt and it's just like eating ice cream! Yummy!

I like adding a drizzle of honey with a spoonful of bee pollen ( for immune system) and some toasted pine nuts or almonds. Delish!

i add honey (any regular store bought stuff) and dried figs (not the fully dried ones, these feel sort of sticky)

tastes really yummy with plain yoghurt (even makes the non fat stuff rich)
