Whats your favorite workout DVD and why?
Hi Everyone!
I have been excercising on an off for about 15 years now and have found that I excercise best to a workout DVD. I have quite a lot of old, VHS tapes, which I'm sure a few of you are scratching your head and saying, "what are VHS?" lol. I just need some input on what is working for you and what have you tried that you are saying to yourself," I won't do that in a million years". I like dancing, using hand weights and cardio. I want something that you feel has really given you some results. I'm getting older and my metabolism is just not working the same like it used to, and I like to eat, so I know I've got to excercise to keep some of my current eating habits.
Thanks!
I am using P90X by beachbody and absolutely love it. It is a 90 day program that uses muscle confusion to help get you into great shape. I have been on it for 6 weeks now and have lost 10-11 lbs so far and feel much better and my wife tells me I look a lot slimmer in the face. I follow the eating plan as much as I can and switch it around to fit in with my eating habits (I don't like very many vegetables). I can't compare it with any other DVD workouts because this is the first one I have ever done. I am 26 years old and have decided to get into shape. P90X is filled with push-ups, pull-ups, dumbbells or bands, Yoga, and cardio. The Cardio Routines include: Plyometrics, CardioX and Kenpo (Kenpo is a fun cardio workout). I workout six days a week for at least an hour a day and I enjoy waking up in the morning to do my workout. So far other then losing weight I have gained muscle and I am starting to see the start of a six pack, so for 6 weeks I think it is pretty good.
I have heard of that one or at least saw it on TV. How long are the workouts? That's another one of my concerns. I seem to be able to get 2 possibley 3 workouts in a week. I am not a morning person so I have been trying to do this after work which is 5p.m. then make dinner. Dinner is happening around 7:30ish because of this. Thanks!
Tai Fit is the absolute best workout DVD I have ever tried! It's a fast-paced kickboxing workout led by this HUGE (muscle-y huge ha) black guy who just yells randomly throughout the workout things like "burn that weight off! work it out like broadway! new millennium baby!"
It's entertaining, very challenging, and supposedly can burn upwards of 700 calories in the 40 minute session :)
Silver - P90X is an hour, 6 days a week. If you don't have that kind of time, then the program is not for you. I did it for 2 months and enjoyed it, but it just got to be too much. The weightlifting workouts are really good, but I didn't think the cardio workouts were intense enough. I really like the yoga dvd though and still use it now.
I wish I could help you but I haven't really tried any workout dvd's lately since I joined a gym and have been taking their classes. Someone told me that Turbo Jam is really fun and intense.
I have Hip Hop Abs from Beachbody and I don't really like it. The main movement is confusing and it doesn't seem intense enough for me.
Oh, I've also heard great things about the new Jillian workout dvd - the lady from the Biggest Loser - Jillian Michaels?? Can't remember her last name..
Personally, I like the Biggest Loser Workout 2 Edition (Bootcamp) DVD. It has a yellow case. Theres everything from cardio to flexibility workouts. A great feature is that its personalized for a woman or man. The womens workouts focus more on the hips, butt, thighs regions. The mens workouts focuses more on the upper body, triceps, biceps, abdominals etc. They also have mixed workouts on there for both men and women. Another thing i reccomend is the Denise Austin Yoga Body Burn Dvd (Green and white case). There are 4 mix and match yoga selections. One targets legs, one targets abs, one targets your heartrate and total body burn, and the other is yoga relax which is good to do in the early morning or right before bed. Both of these dvds gave me results. (:
Leslie Sansone's Walk At Home DVDs! I love them. Honestly, I consider myself to be the most uncordinated person in the world. So, if I have to follow a series of hard, intricate moves I CAN'T DO IT and give up. Leslie's DVDs are really easy to follow but I do feel and know I'm getting a work out.
Would that be like Tai Bo maybe? I definitely could use a 700 calorie burning workout. I'll look that up
Thanks jasminelizabear. I think the Denise Austin one sounds good.

I'm glad to hear about the hip hop abs because I like something intense and my daughter kept telling me to get it. I think the Jillian one is worth trying.
Am I the only one who is madly in love with Richard Simmons videos? They are so ridiculously brilliant and humorous that I probably burn more calories laughing than I could ever burn just flat out exercising.
I love the exercise DVDs by Cathe Friedrich. She has an extensive collection of cardio, step aerobics, and strength training to choose from. Highly recommend and you get results.
Personally, I love the Biggest Loser's Cardio Max and Power Sculpt. Both have 3 levels of intensity so you can start where you feel comfortable with. Cardio is enough exercise to get your heart up but doesn't tire you out. Power Sculpt is also good.
