What's the main difference?

Quote  |  Reply
Hey all!

I know there are SO many topics on heart rate monitors, but I've read them, and read the reviews on the monitors and still can't decide which would be best for me!

I am going between the Polar F4 and F6, and I guess I just don't understand why someone would pick the F6 over the F4?  What are you missing out on exactly if you don't get the F6?

If I understand right they both give you calories burned and a constant heart rate..so what's the big difference?

Thanks for your help, and sorry for adding yet another Polar question =P

Anyone know?? =P

I'm sittin here with a Polar F6 in my cart, and then have another site with a Polar F4, and I'm hoping to make a decision soon!
Checking their website and features list...

. Coded transmission prevents crosstalk with other monitors so you'll get a personalized workout, even in a class environment. More than just a stylish model with 4 color options, the F6™ is an excellent exercise motivator. It includes all the features of the F4™, plus guidance with OwnZone® to automatically establish your personal target heart rate zones and feedback with OwnCal® to track your calories and % of fat burned, making it a perfect exercise companion.
F4 is more basic, apparently, lacking the coded transmission; so if you work out near another polar owner you risk picking up their signal. The Ownzone is also interesting - it's a fitness test that determines your VOMax - how much oxygen each heart beat pushes around your body, basically. Which makes it more accurate - or at least easier; I had to fiddle around with manual tests and stuff to figure out a rough idea of my VoMax with my el cheapo PulseSonic monitor.

So the F6 is probably a bit better and definitely more convenient when you compare features ;)
Thank you so much!  I had read all that stuff but after I got through it I just kinda got the, "Wait, what does that mean then?" reaction haha

I read the words but it ended up being gibberish in my brain!

F6 it is then =)

I got an F4 the first time, and it seemed easier to use.  The controls were simpler and more intuitive.  I now have an F6 because it was on sale when my F4 died after about three years of use.  Both of them are good underwater to about 30meters, the website says, although you shouldn't press any buttons underwater on the watch.

I would recommend the F4 for you simply because it is easier to learn how the features work and you won't accidentally delete a workout like I have often done on the F6 (and had to print the directions again in order to see what I was doing wrong).
