What's your main protein source?

Quote  |  Reply
I'm curious as to all your different protein sources. What food do you get most of your protein from? Pastas? Rice? A certain cereal? Protein shakes/smoothies? Whole wheat bread? Veggies? Beans? Dairy?

I'd say I get most of my protein from whole wheat bread. Although I do get a boost from veggies like broccoli and spinach, fat free cheese, and my fruit smoothie with whey, my night snack of whole wheat toast and veggie stock soup has provided me with the most protein.

Please share your main source/favorite protein food. :D

cottage cheese is my favourite source. yummy and low cal. other places would be tofu, tuna, boca burgers, milk and cheese.
If you eat fish, that would make you pescetarian.  See this link.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pescetarian  It is not commonly accepted as a vegetarian diet.  True vegetarians do not eat fish either.  That's not to say what you are doing is wrong, because everyone has the right to choose for herself or himself what they believe is right or healthy, etc.  I am in this boat as well.  I have eaten the occasional bit of fish, but I am considering cutting it out.  For protein, I get mine from beans, nuts, tofu, seitan products, faux chicken tenders (Qworn brand) and faux chicken and meat patties, as well as faux italian sausage made by Morningstar Farms.  Thinks like that.

Cottage Cheese, beans, quinoa... mostly.
Definitely beans.  I usually eat some kind of bean at least once a day.  They're fantastic.
Mine would be cheese and beans. My mum used to make me eat chickpeas with everything!
Beans, nuts, cruciferous veggies like broccoli and kale, spinach, whole grain breads, whole grains like oats and rice and quinoa.

A good web site on this topic:

cottage cheese, cottage cheese and cottage cheese.

I also use body-building supplements occasionally.  Mostly whey or egg protein (I try to avoid soy due to its estrogen mimicking behavior), but occasionally Amino acids too.  Puritan's Pride has good supplements at good prices (not independently verified).
Mostly beans. Right now red kidney beans are my favorite b/c i can just drain and rinse them from the can and eat them plain or on a piece of toast. Other than that, whole grain/whole wheat bread, soy milk/soy yogurt, or tofu. But mostly beans b/c they are so cheap =)
Add another bean person to the list.  :)  While I am pescetarian, I only have 1-2 servings of seafood a week, tops.  Haven't had soy in a little over a month, and maybe have about .5 serving of dairy a day.  Eggs usually just once a week.
Nuts, seeds, Quorn fillets, beans, lentils, tofu and eggs.
Tuna, hake, squid, seafood mix, surimi.

kashi golean cereal has 13 grams of protein per bowl, as well as only 140 calories, 1 gram of fat, 10 grams of fiber, etc. (:
eggs, cheese, cottage cheese, nuts, seeds, beans, milk, yogurts mostly!
Brains! I'm a zombie. No, really - it's sad but luna bars are usually a third of my protein. They rest comes from tofu and legumes.
Beans, tofu, Whole Grains and nuts.... :)
I felt bad admitting it.... but since someone already did...

Luna Bars!!!

I really like cottage cheese, it's very low cal. A 100 cal, 1/2 cup serving has 13 grams of protein. I also eat beans, egg whites, and nuts.
Spinach, peanutbutter, and beans. Not all in the same day, though I do eat spinach almost every day.
Soy milk every morning on cereal, tofu occassionally.  I eat some form of beans almost every day, and a lot of different veggies.  Soy protein powder too when I do workouts.  I also have about 1oz of feta cheese on my salads almost every day.   Oh yea whole grains in my cereal every morning too. ;)
I wish I could say mine was something super healthy such as beans and legumes, but I'm a cheese freak! I just love it! In fact, I could probably go vegan rather than just lacto-veggie if it weren't for that. . . oh well, good source of calcium!
