I just bought the chicken and the vegetable Boca burger. I haven't made them yet but my husband swears they are disgusting! Do they compare to a normal hamburger at least a little bit????Smile

I love them.  They don't taste that much like meat though.
They dont taste like a big ole greasy burger no...but they arent half bad. Try one with lettuce tomato & lowfat miracle whip...or whatever you would normally use on a burger...they really arent bad at all.

No comparison besides the shape. They are also extremely processed. Unless you're vegetarian or vegan, you're better off sticking to 93/7 or leaner ground beef.
I love boca burgers.  I haven't had a meat hamburger in about fifteen years, so I can't really say how they compare, but I think a lot of people like hamburgers because of the condiments and stuff, not the taste of the meat.  I eat mine on english muffins with laughing cow light cheese, spinach, tomatoes, onions, and pickles.  The chik'n patties are pretty good too (I like the Quorn brand better), but they can be a little dry.  I use them to make chik'n parmesan, which fixes the moisture problem.  It seems like people wanting to cut down on their meat consumption could easily use fake meat in dishes with more complex flavors, where the taste of real meat would be covered up anyway.

I love boca burgers! I haven't tried the chicken, but the Original, Flame-Grilled, Grilled Vegetable and Cheddar Cheese burgers are all really good. The "Original" is my favorite, though.

Grill up an original burger, with or without cheese depending on how many calories you want, toast a bun on the grill, and top it with a slick slice of red tomato and onion and lettuce and maybe even a pickle. ;) I'm in heaven!

I'm an omnivore BTW. I only started these when my brother turned vegetarian. For your husband, try making him a 'double decker' burger (I do these when I'm reaaally hungry!). ^^

Definitely prefer turkey burgers or a lean burger like dm84 said.
Not a Boca burger fan. I see lots of good comments though so maybe I'll have another try. I usually go for the Gardenburger brand.
they're alright. i've tried a few of the different varieties and they're either not that bad or a complete miss with me. i'm definitely more of a lean turkey buger person (1 extra lean turkey buger for only 160 cals). they definitely don't taste like meat, but i'd hands down choose them over a gardenburger any day. i think they taste funky with cheese, but better with ketchup. maybe i'd like them more if i'd never eaten a hamburger before? haha

but anyway, they're okayyyy. obviously you should try them and make your own opinions, since some people really do love them. but personally, i'd prefer to use them as a hockey puck.
I think they taste foul, but most people here really like them.
spicy chicken patties are really good! really really really good!!!

the vegan burger is okay. but it has 70 calories and hardly any fat. and a bunch of protein do i eat them anyway.
I love them!  Although my mom says they are filled with all sorts of weird stuff.  (check the label) I've tried the organic ones (different brand) but they fall apart in the pan and are mushy =(

I eat them like once a week with a slice of 2% cheese, carmalized onions (cooked with japanese chili powder), ketchup, and mustard.  Freaking yummy.  Red meat gives me stomach aches =\.

My b/f also loves them, and he is of the red meat eating/loving variety.

I prefer the Garden type.  But I'd probably try any of them.
I hate them because they taste TOO much like meat to me.  I like morningstar, which are less meatlike....:)

I just ate the best burger ever.

Haha.

1 Boca burger, 1 slice pineapple, 1/4 cup spinach leaves, 1 slice tomato, 1 slice yellow pepper, 1 slice whole wheat bread with 1 Laughing cow light swiss cheese wedge.

 Toasted the bread.

I grilled the pineapple, spinach, pepper, and burger all on the skillet.

It, was, a-ma-zing.

Haha.

I pared it with sweet potato fries.

That was my lunch. :D

I like veggie burgers-- but can't stand the ones that pretend to taste like meat. Try a black bean or garden veggie style. Yum.
boca burgers = yuck.

if you're looking for any type of veggie burger i'd recommend morningstar-  my favs are tomato basil pizza and garden vegetable.. i think they taste more like real food than boca- too fake-ish

The Morningstar pizza-flavored burgers are nice.... but they are vegetarian (not vegan).

For Boca, the only ones I like are the vegan burgers.

=^..^= MOLLY

I haven't seen anyone mention Amy's Veggie Burgers yet.  They come in several flavors (my favorite is the Texas burger).  Also marinated, grilled portabello mushrooms on a bun are a good beef substitute.

Bob

Blech!  Tried 'em and couldn't even get past the first bite.  Which was disappointing...

I eat Veggie Burgers every morning for Breakfast.  My favorite are the Mornigstar Farms Tomato and Basil Pizza burger and Boca Grillers.  I bake them in the oven for 20 minutes  to get them crispy then the last two minutes I put a Whole Grain Flat Out Wrap (100 cals) in the oven too, to toast it up.  I fill the wrap with the two burgers, two tablespoons of hummus and a 1/8 cup of feta, plus lots of crispy romain lettuce leaves.

WOW, it is huge and filling and SO TASTY, I love them!  Total Cals are 450.  You can cut down to one burger and lose the feta to carve 160 calories off that.  I like a big filling breakfast because once I'm off to work, it may be a while before I get another chance to sit and eat.  This keeps me very satiated.
