What's going on? scale yo-yo!

Quote  |  Reply
This is my first week and I know I shouldn't being weighing myself everyday, now I know why :(  My weight is up and down like a yo-yo, what is going on? I'm trying not to get discouraged.
Start day May 28 -205
May 29-203
May 30-202
May 31- 201.5
June 1 - 202
June 2 - 203.5

I'm due for my period, thought it was going to start yesterday, maybe today. I'm trying to drink lots of water, somedays more than others.
Why is it going all over that place :( I want my 201.5 back!

PS I weigh myself at the same time, under the same conditions everytime.

I yo yo throught out the week too. Your extra weight could be just water weight and that fact there your about to start. So dont get discouraged Just keep doing what your doing and hopefully next week you will see a loss!
Thanks purrfectprincess

Anybody else have any thoughts?
Track your sodium intake on those days as well.

Your weight will flucuate daily, hourly, weekly.  I too weigh daily just to stay on course, however I only log it on Mondays and Thursdays.  I try not to let the other days get me done, rather use them as the kick in the but I sometimes need to stay the course.
I read a book that says your weight can fluctuate up and down two pounds up and two pounds down every single day because of various environmental factors. I think that's why you aren't supposed to weigh yourself everyday because you could get so discouraged so easily when on the same day it goes up. It's supposed to be just water and based on what you eat and how your body digests it.
I'm so ashamed of myself, I felt so down after weighing myself this morning that I ate at McDonalds for lunch and they weren't healthy choices either. A quarter pounder, lg fries and coke. ok ok I'm not telling the truth, I had a cheeseburger to. I'm so ashamed! :(

I'm only going to weigh myself once a week from now on!

I have to stay on track and I'm going to write down how guilty I feel right now for eating that evil food. Please God give me will power and the strength to change these bad habits. I don't want to be an emotional or bored eater!

Going with my head looking at the floor, close to tears to write down how bad I feel right now.
get that chin up, girl! tomorrow is a new day, you get to start all over, with new choices... make the best of them!
Come on the day is not over yet.  Drink more water to get rid of that salt.

Water, water, oh water boy where are you?  You are needed desperately.  Hope he shows up to help you out!
***puts on best water boy impersonation***

that's some quality H2O right there!

mwahahaa!!

and quit weighing every day!  i threw away my scale for the same reason.. i would get upset then i'd eat something i neither wanted nor needed!  i only weigh when i go to they gym now.. and i'm thinking of going to only 1 time a week because it drives me nuts!!!  (edit:  weighing once a week.. not working out once a week.. heh)

and look at it this way: started at 205.. right now 203.5.. that's a pound and a half in one week!  that's what you're supposed to be losing!  it's a loss!  celebrate!  :)
Like obs said... don't weigh yourself everyday. Pick one day a week and weigh yourself at the same time (i.e. monday mornings). You will only get discouraged at the daily fluctuations.
Thanks you guys!! Your the best ((((HUGS))))

I'm going to think I'm a fish for the rest of the day hehe

PS I did start my period this afternoon, damn PMS!!

You guys rock! Thanks for all your support, tomorrow is a new day!
I pretty much wanted to echo what Obs has said - 1.5 pounds in a week is very good progress, no matter which way you're looking at things.

Another thing to remember, is rather than feeling like you've 'gained back' the 2 pounds that are between 201.5 and 203.5, look at it this way: that 201.5 is within your body's current weight range, which means that it will almost certainly be regularly attainable within the next week or so as long as you keep up with doing the right things.

When it comes to life long weight loss, the first thing that's important is how you feel when you eat well/live well as compared to when you didn't care how you ate; the second thing is the trend, and that's impossible to see (statistically) unless you have at least a few weeks under your belt.

Keep at it, and you'll notice the changes!
I have been going through the same thing- I started about a a week and 1/2 ago and I went down and then bounced back up to wherre I started, I have been eating a bit more then the recommened calories, but I have been working out like a fiend. I think for me I haven't been watching my sodium intake and thus I have beeen retaining water- oh yeah bloted! So the past few days I have beeen stocking up on water and not on sodium loded foods, slowly but surely I have been loosing that bloat! Don't get discouraged, try and not look to the scale for validation but measure by someting else... like an easier time exercising, or walking even further then you thought you could- this has been helpful for me since sometime looking at the scale everyday can be demoralizing and depressing- keep it going, every meal is a chance to start over!!

Never forget the power of the female cycle and PMS, you put the 2 together and you get some weight fluctuation monthly (water, etc.), you get crazy hormones that can make you feel down whether you get on the scale or not, and you get ther raving urge to eat junk.  Frankly, I do not get on the scale at that time, rather wait the week out and see how great that 1-2 lb loss looks after a whole week. Keep smiling :-}

Ok so today I decided to step on the scale, I know, I know not a good idea but guess what!! It was down to 201.5 !!!!! Hope I was just bloated yesterday.

So I'm NOT going to weigh myself until next Saturday, that is a promise to myself and to you guys so if anyone senses that I'm even thinking of doing it please slap me and hard! he he

So that is a total of 3.5 lbs in a week! I would have been happy with the 1.5 lbs but the 3.5 is so much better! I can't wait until I get below 200 lbs, hopefully by this time next week!!

Thanks for being there for me everyone, you make this so much easier, your the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It might seem that it's going all over the place, but it's not.  It has to do with water retention, how much your bowels contain and can even be different if you are warmer than the last time you weighed.  I allow for a 5 pound fluctuation (but I have a medical problem, so 3 pounds is probably normal), and I don't believe I've lost weight until I see that lower weight for a week.  Watch the green trend line on your weight chart.  If it's angleing downward, even a tiny bit, you are still on track.

I'm so glad that you are doing good. I got your back girl. Keep it up. I will start posting on here more too. I know I will need the motivation. Although you seem to give me all the motivation I need right now  :D

Take Care,

Stacey
I know it's frustrating to watch your weight fluctuate like that. If it discourages you, try only weighing yourself once a week or once every other week. I weight myself everyday because it helps to keep me on track. What I do, is I look at the lowest weight that I was at from the previous week and make sure that the scale never says higher than 3 pounds more than that weight. For example, if last week my lowest weight was 117 out of all 7 days, everytime I weight myself this week, I make sure the scale never says more than 120. Your weight can fluctuate for a lot of reasons. The most common being water retention especially around your period. 2 weeks ago, my lowest weight was 116, then last week when I was on my period, for 3 days the scale said 119. This week, there were 3 days that the scale said 115 so I know that I did end up losing a pound. I hope that wasn't confusing.
