What's your secret weight loss weapon??
Reason: 2/12/08: Stickied. 3/3/08: Unstickied
It's so obvious and yet people try to ignore it or talk themselves out of it, but there is no faster way to lose weight than cardio workouts.
If you did 1 hour of cardio a day for a week and burned 600 calories during that time (very conservative), for the week you would have burned 4200 extra calories.
I guarantee that if you eat less than your body requirements, and do cardio an hour a day, you will lose weight fast. Try it for a month and you'll see the results. Just make sure you don't eat all your calories back.

what my weapons are...
- looking (here ad on google) at pictured of people who were obese and lost lots of weight
- not having any junk food ny ma home
- bought several types of gourmet coffee, also herb teas, green tea etc. - they are tasty, have no calories and even if they do not fill me, hey are tasty things to put in my mouth
I leave washed fruit and berries on my counter so that it's an easy snack.
I also don't have junk food around
I a mirror in front of my treadmill. I can see my muscles working and see the progression as I am getting stronger.
Oh, watch the liquid calories. I like water with lemon juice throughout the day and add Splenda for a sweeter treat, Crystal Light is also pretty good, but they add some sodium.
My secret weightloss weapon and motivator first is...ME MYSELF AND I...and...being here with you all. Discovering CC, was thee best thing I have done in a long long time. I know that this is going to take me somewhere. This is going to help me become somebody, because I have woken up and I am paying attention...ha! I have felt a change coming to my life, since shortly before I joined here. My time in life, is now. This will become the best "accident" I have ever made...ha! ![]()

Mary, I am on my last 7 pounds to my goal weight. I am currently at the 48 pounds lost mark. I am 54 years old and a grandmother. I have struggled with my weight all my life. Much of that time I felt like I was on the losing end in the battle to reach my goal. That is a play on words because I was losing the battle then but I am losing the weight now. I don't battle anymore. My secret weapon was to commit to being healthy. It was the commitment that made the difference. I did not commit to staying on a diet to lose weight...I did not commit to doing things that were unhealthy to reach a goal weight.
I DID COMMIT to doing whatever it took to get my body to a healthy place. My first step was to begin exercising. I had gotten to a place where I had to use caution and grasp the doorway when I stepped up or down the one step between my hall way and my living room. Getting in and out of my car had become an effort that required focus. Bending down to tie my shoes caused discomfort to my belly and made it hard to breath. That was when I knew I needed to change. I started walking my dog. I just went around the block at first which was only a five minute stroll. I slowly worked up to walking three miles a day which took me an hour to complete.
From that point I moved into a serious commitment to changing my eating habits. I had taken charge of my life as far as exercising went and I felt I could commit to cleaning out my kitchen also. I did research because this was not my first run at changing the way I ate. It was however the first commitment I had made to eat for the purpose of nourishing my body. I had to stop: 1) eating to sooth my feelings, 2) eating to hide from my past, 3) eating to cover my disappointments in myself and others, 4) eating to entertain my boredom. In order to do this I had to begin by recording everything I put in my mouth every minute of every day honestly. Then I had to set goals and limits and hold myself accountable to them.
My biggest secret is a soul felt commitment to health! I am happy to chat with you about it more if you want.
Terry
My secret is you only ever have 1 lb to lose. I've done it over 65 times. The more of those you can do in a row without gaining, the less you have do total...but today/this week, you only ever have to lose 1 lb.
Doesn't matter what you ate last week or yesterday, today, you can lose a portion of the next 1 lb. Forget huge losses, you may get some! They're a gift, but you can't routinely lose 5 lbs in a day anyway, unless yer gonna lop off body parts.
Everything counts in small amounts :) And good thing, because you really can't do it the other way round.
Really it's either taking the really long view...or the really short view...but watch out for getting down on yourself for not being there yet. Because you can't get THERE unless you can live with, and keep up with what you're doing right now. The least little improvement today is worth EVERYTHING and the hugest commitment you're gonna start "tomorrow" is worthless. I'm not saying don't plan, but don't "not do it" because you can't DO whatever your plan was. Do the next best thing, instead.
My drawer contains things like: Ryvita, mini tins of tunafish, pretzels, raw almonds, canned soup, Luna bars, natural peanut butter, fiber cereal...in the breakroom fridge I keep a bag of apples, lowfat cottage cheese or yogurt, skim milk for my cereal, string cheese etc.
Original Post by monarch777:For me, since I love to cook, food is sort of a hobby. The answer for me is to find some other hobbies and distract myself with NON-food things to do. The gym is a biggie for me now, but way back when I was still learning about myself, things like going to the grocery store and buying a magazine or some make up I wanted to try or a new pen (hey, I LIKE pens okay?) Instead of junk food or crap I did not need to eat. If I buy something to eat...I has to be healthy.
Weight loss isn't just physical, its LOTS of mental. Re-training your brain and habits are just as important as the calories you put into your body. Finding FUN ways to burn off those calories is important as well. Don't just exercise for the sake of it. Do something that doesn't even feel like work ! Play!
Hey, I have a pen fetish too!!! I get the weirdest looks when I get all excited about a new pen... Maybe I'll make that one of my rewards :)
Hi ya'll. I'm here to finish what I started 2 years ago. I have 30 pounds to take off and hope to accomplish it by July. That would mean 1300 calories a day...ouch! Here's to planning!

another weapon:
i got myself nice new plates and bowls and cups (i had cups but just thought i would get myself some nicer ones).
also continuing discovering more gourmet tea and coffee.
it feels really good.
Seriously, the most important thing is that you feel good. That way, you don't NEED that feeling of satisfaction you get from food. So if you have depression, you need to take care of that. This is the number one thing that has helped me.
Other than that... Whenever I feel the urge to cheat, I tell myself: "You're only cheating yourself." Works well for me.
Hey,
In the past 2 years I have gradually lost 30 pounds (165 to 135 now) and I have some things that worked for me:
exercise: I decided to take up running...I had never done it before but it has changed my life. I worked up to running 3 miles and registered for a race. I just did my 10th race today and it felt amazing knowing that 2 years ago I could never have done it. If running or walking is good for you then I suggest getting a journal to plan your workouts so you will have to stick with them! its annoying to have to erase or cross out a workout when you get too lazy!
food: I first started with weightwatchers because I needed to measure my portions and realize I was eating waaaaaay too much and eating the wrong things. I also drank heavily with friends and drank the really high calorie drinks. I now drink Michelob ultra(95 cal) and really enjoy it! I try not to eat after 7 but it doesnt always work. Try to stay away from food with lots of sugar because it turns to fat. Also eat when you are hungry, starving yourself will never work and it makes people crazy.
foods that I love and are good for you:
low fat peanut butter, light wheat bread, sugar free jello with lite whipped cream, ground turkey in place of ground beef, cup of soup, cottage cheese with pineapple...( i promise its good!), any weight watchers desserts, raisins, fruits and vegetables of course, slimfast optima(replace 1 meal a day) and many more.
Remember its a process and losing weight gradually is the best way! Good Luck!
If you ever need anything let me know!
Sara
I like to stock up on gum. It's 3 cals a piece, and the minty flavor keeps the lightheadedness off when I'm hungry. Whenever I feel like eating more than I should, I run and stuff a piece of gum in my mouth.
bought a pair of shoes to walk in outside. not that this is good for my budget, but it is good for everything else:))
