What's the sweetest thing you have ever recieved for Christmas?

I'm not interested in something like a new car, or wide screen TV, or video game set. I want to know... what was the most heartfelt thing you've ever recieved? Was it a homemade drawing? A poem? Photo album?

A desk set, but it was the same desk set that my parents got me the year prior.  A friend of mine and I threw it off a bridge when we were at boarding school together.  We were in some sort of stupid poetry class where the teacher eventually got fired.

I haven't received it yet, actually. But my boyfriend's getting me this necklace I really wanted. I was looking at it and said I'd ask my parents for it for Christmas. And he said, "You really like that?" I told him I did. "Then please, let me get it for you." So cute that he wants so much to make me happy. :)

My engagement ring - a total surprise - 24 months ago as of tomorrow - on the Winter Solstice.

One Christmas, my husband gave me the most romatic moment of my life.

It was our first Christmas together.  We were at my parents (he'd only met them a couple of times).  My mom was off making a relish tray or some such thing, my dad was off doing something dad-ish...and we were just sitting there listening to some classic Christmas tunes my mom had put on the stereo and feeling very awkard about the first shared Christmas...but then he took my hand, stood me up, and started dancing with me right there in the living room.  I was so surprised and happy, my heart was all aflutter... even thinking about it now, I have to catch my breath.  My husband is a great dancer, but he never danced with me.  Since then, he's only danced with me twice, and once was at our wedding.  It makes this memory all the more special.

I'm sure I've gotten some thoughtful gifts, but no physical thing I have ever gotten had made me feel as loved and special.  I won't ever forget it.

My husband is attempting to do something sweet, which I think is the sweetest thing ever.  He keeps coming up with these ideas, and before he ever makes it to the store to get them, I figure them out and he gets all frustrated.

So far he has wanted to:

Have a custom music box made for me
Put together a candle making kit
Get me a locket with pictures of our kittens in it
Buy me the hat I've been wanting for, like, ever

He should just learn to not let me have hints. :D

My boyfriend did the twelve days of Christmas for me, but with things I really love. Day twelve was 12 (hilariously bad, but sweet) poems he'd written.

The most heartfelt gift I received wasnt for christmas, but when I graduated with my BA. My aunt gave me this beautiful sapphire and diamand bracelot that was her mothers.

The best present, was the engagement ring I got last year!Laughing

My engagement ring X-mas eve '94.  I asked for a watch and the ring was even in a watch box!  I did get the watch on Valentines day

A little wooden angel that my daughter made for me when she was in Grade 2.  It still hangs on the Christmas Tree - 20 years later.  I also have an old Mistletoe Bell that belonged to my Grandmother.  It has hung from the ceiling, just inside the front door, for every Christmas of my life (all 49 of them).

My son bought me a beautiful jewelry box...he pays attention to the things I need.

My Mom passed away December 23, 2004. The next night (Christmas Eve) I was at my Auntie's home for dinner & she took me upstairs and gave me some old black & white photograghs of my Mom when she was a little girl. She included some photograghs of her late brother as well.

My ex boyfriend knitted me a beautiful hat for Christmas last year.  He made the whole thing- even the cute tassels and the little pompom on top!  He's way better at knitting than I am.

In the Netherlands we traditionally give presents on the 6th of december, saint Nicolas birthday, I consider that the same as xmas presents though.

So I was 15, 1980, I had mentioned wanting a guitar, but my parents made sure I should not expect one, them being so expensive and such, and I had given up hope on it. So that night we unpacked our presents, and checking the sizes of the packages, which one of course does, hey you never know right, well there was none the size of a guitar. The last package I got held a loooooooong poem, I had to read it out loud, it held all kinds of hints to this invisible friend I used to have when I was little, called the Chef and how I was getting a new friend as important to me like the Chef (ok, don't ask LOL), a new Chef with who I could share all my secrets, in the end I was handed a key, to my bedroom door, and there on my bed was this brand new guitar waiting for me, I still totally tear up over this..............yes the Chef is still here with me, made it over the ocean too!

That's so sweet.. it's like right out of a movie. =)

About 5 years ago, my parents made videos for the 3 of us kids. It was a montage of old family movies. Of course, they were taken in the 70's and 80's so it was really funny. We watched it that Christmas Day and we were all in tears....from laughter and from the sweetness.

A friend gave me a donation in my name to my favorite animal shelter.

best gift EVER

My Auntie just stopped by to give me an early Christmas present. When my Mom passed away she had not completed a sweater (which I nknew nothing about). She did beautiful knitting. My Auntie went to every knitting/yarn store in this city trying to find someone to complete it, but to no avail. One shop that she stopped in gave her the phone number of a British woman (a retired minister) who had moved to the city and had given knitting lessons. My Auntie gave her a call & the woman immediately said no, she couldn't finish the sweater for her. My Auntie asked if she could at least hear the story...

My Mom was so excited when she found the yarn and pattern to knit the sweater but the she got sick. The cancer had returned & she never had a chance to complete it before she died. The woman asked my Auntie if she could come to her home within the next hour.

I received the completed sweater moments ago. In two days it will be 4 years ago that my Mom left & I'm going to curl up in it and go through all her photograghs, remembering all those times so long ago...

Sad :( Reminds me of my grandmother that passed away this summer (also from cancer). She was always knitting things for us grandkids. Last Christmas she made me a scarf, unfortunately it's bubble gum pink and totally not what I'd wear, but I'm still keeping it forever, it's the last thing she made me (have a quilt from the previous year too).

trendstudent: I'm glad to know that the video was your favorite gift because I am making my father the same thing.  A montage of video footage of my brother and me when we were little.  I really hope my dad likes it.

Every gift I've gotten from Santa... my mother... has been wonderful.  Especially the years right after my father and mother got divorced.  We were on the edge of poverty, but my mom always made sure Santa brought exactly what I asked for.  Even though they were just things (American Girl Dolls, ect.), the thought that she put her children before herself just brings tears to my eyes.
