Whats your thermostat at?

Quote  |  Reply

Mine doesnt matter - Im not running heat to save money for a trip in February I shouldnt be able to afford.  Its hitting all kind of low temps - although previous winters have cut it off at 65.

Also, if you live with someone who's happier with the temp? I rarely find a couple that agrees on temperature.

Are you chillin?

we have ours on a timer so it changes throught the day..we have it 65 at night, 70 when we are up and about and 67 during the day when we are not home.

It is cold in NJ but I keep the heater on a programmable thermostat.  When I am home, it is up at 68 degrees  At night I let it drop to 58 degrees.  And yes, I have a down comforter on my bed.

Ours is on a timer too but its set to 66F 24/7 but I cranked it up to 68F on Saturday as it was -25C!

hahaha Mine is set on 25C. I feel a bit embarrassed. Luckily, it's really cheap to run my heat here as it's ondol heating.

69* which is freezing me... last year it was on 78* Yep it was an oven in my house but I didn't have to dress in layers and sit with a cover on.

68-70 throughout the day since I'm home all day. At night, 65.

Close to 70 when we're home (mornings and evenings), but 65 or lower at night and while we're at work/school.

64-66 depending on the day and such, it gets hot upstairs but too chilly downstairs....

Thos of you that keep it colder than 60... dont you worry about pipes freezing?   I was always told (living in apartments) to not let it go lower than 60 (for most of the apartments) and one apartment said not lower than 55.

Thoughts?

Wow, mine's low. I keep it at 57 at all times to save money. It's really freaking cold in there, but I would rather wear a few sweaters and sleep under an extra blanket than pay for the heat.

The previous resident told me that her heating bills were $150 for the cold months. My bill for November was $23. I think I'll keep it at 57. Wink

ETA- There's something in my lease about keeping it above a certain temp, but I'm pretty sure it's about where I am now. I really should check that.

I have ours set at 65 and I don't even like it that warm.  However, my hunny is concerned about the pipes (as the other poster mentioned).  I would rather layer up and sleep comfy than to have to strip and sweat at night (I hate that, a lot).  So, I convinced my wonderful fiance to put an extra comforter on his side of the bed.  I pay for the electric and even though its set at 65, the bill has increased by $60 already and the lowest temperature was only reached yesterday.  It's going to be interesting.  However, when it comes to summer time - I will pay $200+ a month just to keep the A/C running on full blast all summer long!  =)

Pipes won't freeze until your house gets to 32F!  My house is generally at 65, but we turn it down when we have a fire in our fireplace.  Last week it got down to 42 when we didn't have power...

57 is a magic number.  Like Heinz 57.

I am 57 varieties of cold, but it's worth it. It's especially cold in my bathroom- it can't be higher than 45 in there. I put storm windows in and insulated the windows with plastic sheeting, but for some reason it's always extremely cold in there. Cold contacts and cold toilet seats are the worst! But it makes hot showers so much better.

oh wow, that sounds so absolutely miserable to me! i'm all about saving where i can, but i'd so much rather cut corners elsewhere and be comfortable in my own house. i think the only way i could live like that would be if i had to choose between heat and food or rent money. i keep my heat at 68 usually, occassionally up it to 70. at night around 65 (any lower than that and the dog gets cold).

Trust me, I am the most cold-sensitive person in history. If I can do it, anyone can. It just takes a lot of layering! The dog definitely gets cold, but her cage is right near the radiator, so she likes to curl up in there and stay warm. When I lift up the blanket that covers her cage in the morning, I feel a gust of warm air. On extra cold days, she sprints back into her cage after I take her out to pee.

heat is such a waste of money.  If we have company over I'll turn it to 65, otherwise, it stays just below 60.  We just wear several layers.  (We have a two bedroom apt and we paid $23 bucks for our last bill.  My sister, who always complains our place is too cold, and has an apartment three times smaller than ours just got her first heating bill - $99 bucks.) What a waste!

I don't have control over my heat, old apartment building, and they keep it at about 22C/70F and it's way too hot, I don't sleep.  I keep the windows open in the middle of winter to keep it about about 16C/60F.  Heating your place to 26C/80F so that you can sit around in a tank top and shorts is stupid, bad for the environment and a total waste of money.

I've always also found it weird that when I visit my dad, who lives in Florida, that every indoor space is AC'd to hell...it's freezing everytime you go inside.  I have cold winter, but at least I have buildings to go in that are warmer than 5 degrees.

22 degrees Celcius  for day and evening and 17 overnight.

And in a detached house its necessary or else

Adding A/C is set for 25 degrees Cel.

 True that, cold contacts SUCK.

Ours is set at 68 to combat the drafts.

We live in an old house that was remodelled poorly in the kitchen and the back bedroom, where we sleep.  We're convinced there's no insulation in the bedroom's walls.  When you touch them, they feel like ice.

As for the kitchen, the door is old and cracked, and you can stand by it and watch the curtain blow whenever the wind does.  There's also breezes from under the sink, where new cabinets were installed a few years ago.  I have no idea what they did, but you can see outside through some of them.

It's usually pretty comfortable in the rest of the house.  I keep an extra throw in the living room for at night when it gets a little cool.  As long as I wear a sweater and socks, I'm comfortable.

Once husband fixes these drafts, though, the heat's going down.
