ZOMG

well from my point of veiw in australia;

before he was elected we kinda made a huge deal of it all *sigh* i suppose it's because of america's influence on the economy.

anywho

my family would always discuss 'first black or first women president' and thought they both would make a good job. some of us even commented that "together they can rule the world" although i think that was my younger brother ^^

yeah, if they both fighting over something that important of coarse they're gonna be oppositions but when it comes down to it it's all for the good of business.

i must admit its pretty freaky-crazy that they are working together now.

i'd like to know what your views on it are?

btw we all reckon that obama is going to be ssoo targeted by assasins, worse than most presidents, it's sad really, as much as i dont want to mention it if he were i'd hope hilary was next in line...

What's up with you acting like an immature brat and abusing the caps lock function?

OP: a little slow on the uptake aren't we?

Laughing

I actually don't mind the choice but I do harbor some concern about Bill's foundation and international doners.

at first i was perplexed by the choice, but i figure i'll wait for somebody to screw something up before i start complaining  Smile

agree about the international donors - it seems they should decline all foreign contributions while hillary is in office?  i mean, how can she avoid the appearance of impropriety?  i don't get it.

at least the potential conflict-of-interest is right up front.  can't say that for many politicians.

btw, i'm totally in agreement with CD on the screaming font and the lack of meaningful content in the OP, but figured that since it was samhhaut's first post, i'd give him/her/it a few days to get the lay of the land....

Uhhh, her resume was properly formatted with correct usage of upper and lowercase letters?

I think the conflict of interest being obvious is a good thing for transparency - but if the foundation does continue to accept foreign donations, every position she takes will be colored by the perception of complicity whether it exists or not.

Reporting annually who donated does nothing to prevent problems as they occur. It just seems better all the way around to forego foreign contributions for the duration of her tenure as SOS.

Because she's brilliant, and an experienced diplomat, and he recognizes talent when he sees it and prioritizes that over election drama? Excellent choice and gave me more confidence in him.

/Canadian.

Could not have said it better myself.

 Ditto.

I agree that she's brilliant and I love her... she was my vote in the primaries... but, that just makes me question her willingness to sign on for his presidency... I understand wanting to be involved, but that just associates her with every decision he makes and that makes me nervous... she is so much more!

Everything I've read about her indicates that she is extremely intelligent and a quick study.

But I didn't know that she is also an experienced diplomat.

I wish I had known more about all of her successful negotiations (afternoon teas) with foreign powers (first ladies). Tongue out

I was surprised she wanted the job too because now she can be fired by one guy if he becomes displeased with her job performance (instead of by a majority of the electorate of New York state)

They are on the same team, I don't think it's surprising at all.  The areas they disagreed on were relatively few and their disagreements were relatively minimal.  I don't think any two people anywhere agree on anything 100%.  I really think they are very supportive of eachother and the primaries just skewed that.

Why are you asking about this now, weeks after the choice was announced?

What do you think is "BS", specifically?  Do you not like HRC?  Or do you just think she's unqualified for the position?  Who would have been a better choice?

My .02: I didn't particularly care for the choice because I thought there were more qualified candidates, but that doesn't mean I think she'll do a bad job.  My first reaction when it was announced is that I thought it was a political and PR decision.  But really - she's a smart lady, a shrewd politician, and has a lot of connections.  I'm willing to see how she does.

well i might be going out on a limb here, but i think the fact that she accepted the appointment is pretty good evidence that she (a) believes in the potential of the obama administration and (b) genuinely wants to make the US a better place to live and a better world citizen, rather than just advance her career.

i mean--yeah--she could have sat in the relative safety of the senate and waited to pounce on the new administration's every mistake, but she's choosing not to take that route.

I do think her celebrity will help with her 'globe cred' - Canada certainly loves her. ;)
