What's up with the cat profiles?

What is up with all of the cat profile pictures!!? 

I don't really have any problem with cats.  They are very entertaining to watch (running up a tree as my dog chases them...j/k!).  But it seems very strange to me that so many profiles on cc start off with a cat photo.  I do not see many dog profiles, though I know there are a lot of dog lovers out there (can I get a "Hooyah" from all the dog lovers!)  Are you all cat people (maybe this is a time to assess yourself to see if you have become the "cat lady"...do you have more than 2 cats?...hmmm)  Or, is it an expression...cats are very expressional (Garfield had a lot to say without moving his lips)?  Is it a symbolic thing having to do with counting calories?  I donno...I just don't get it.  So, I thought I would ask you.

Sha74 - I think it started in the Chat thread...you know that thread in the lounge every day that has the word "chat" in the title?  Well a site that gets brought up alot is LOL cats.  http://www.lolcats.com/

I forget who started it now, but I think that's where some of the profile pics came from.  And since alot of people who post in Chat are regular posters all over CC, you tend to see them more frequently.

BTW, chat is not a closed group.  We welcome newcomers or pretty much anyone who is bored and looking for some random conversation.  Dog lovers are welcome as well  :-D

edit:  And horse lovers and....llama lovers...

I've also seen lots of LOL cats profile pictures. That might have something to do with it. There's really not a comparble dog version. (At least not in terms of quality.)

There are a number of females who have been called the "Dog Ladies."  I'm sure they'll make their presences known.  :D

Yeah, I totally agree that all the animal profile pics are just plain wierd and annoying. If you don't want to put up pics of yourself, then I would suggest not having a profile pic at all. That's just my input.

Agreed.  Horses then cats.  But don't tell my cats.  I don't want them plotting...

@slb537: I perfer people have a picture of SOMETHING, so I'll take animals. I hate people that have no picture. How long can it take you to download some avatar of the internet? Really? And yet I get no idea about your likes or dislikes and no idea how to remember you on forms with a blank void.

I'd rather look at an animal. I have no photo cuz I don't care, plus I kind of like the question mark. It makes me feel mysterious. If I did it'd be of my cat. My screen name came about because of one of my cats.

Both dogs and cats get enough love. 

So I just want to give a shout out to all the guinea pig lovers out there. 

Edit:  I'm guilty of the blank avatar box too.  The guinea pig is just for today.

I don't photograph well.  I don't have kids.  I don't have a dog (or a llama for that matter)

So my puss cat gets the glory.

 I take umbrage at that.  Birds are simply more evolved dinosaurs.
