Tip: WALK!! Everyday on your lunch break. To a further bus stop than the one outside your door. Down a few flights of stairs to use the "restroom facilities" on a different floor. Walk over to speak to a co-worker instead of dialing their extension. Anywhere that you could walk in 15 min do not drive the car. Walk up a flight or two to do laundry on a different floor if you have communal laundry facilities. Just WALK as much as possible.

Tip: don't stress about little slips. just keep up your sustainable, enjoyable changes (make it livable or you won't do it!). Don't worry about small regains, or slow losses, etc... just keep on going.
Mental health is more important to this process than physical health - so take very very good care of it.

exercise!!! just do anything!!! there are NO rules... just get up & get moving!!!
ANYTHING is better than nothing!!!

Start Date: 2/1/07
Start Weight: 198
Goal Weight: 125 (reached 12/15/07) started maintenance
Current Weight: 120
# weeks healthy lifestyle: 14 months
# of lbs lost since start: 78
Tip - make changes to diet and exercise that you can live with. I am basicially eating the same diet plan, just added back in calories when I reached goal weight. Biggest change for me was adding in and eating breakfast each morning to set myself up to eat healthy for the day. I learned that in eating right I can get a lot of food out of the daily calorie allotment.
Also I have my scheduled exercise at the gym but anything else I can squeeze in, walks at lunch, running errands, etc I add in as little bonuses for myself. Anything you can do like this adds up.
One other thing I did was buy down the scale for the next season. I would buy the next size down for spring, summer or fall whatever the next season was. I put this item in the front of my closet to remind myself to stay on track so I could get into it by the time that season came around.

# of weeks of healthy lifestyle: about 32
# of lbs lost since start: 55+

Tip: Take it one day at a time. DO NOT give up. DO NOT let a bad meal, day, week derail your efforts. MOVE. Eat what you will be eating next year, not just what you think will help you lose weight (in other words, learn moderation, not restriction. Fiber is your friend. Water can move pounds. Everyone should read THIS.

Try not to let the weight fluctuations get to you. I let them get to me far too often. As long as your trend is downwards you know you're doing something right. Also, reward yourself. Buy some smaller clothes, look at before and after pictures, anything to keep yourself motivated and looking forward to your goal.

3.) WATER! Drink lots of it...

- so i am one of those people who focus on the whole picture and try to do it all at once and then get discouraged and quit....well, this time i decided to change little things until it all fits together and they all become habits...so my only change so far has been to drink water....i always drank pots of coffee w/ cream and sugar, and then the rest of the day diet sodas....so i was pretty dehydrated...but now i drink two cups of coffee w/ less cream/sugar in the morning and the rest of the day at least 3 liters of water.....this has helped extremely...seeing as i've already lost 10lbs and i only added water and subtracted sodas and tons of coffee :) hehe...that was all the motivation i needed :)

Sticks of butter, eh? ::punches numbers into calculator:: lol that's a fun way of thinking about it.
Start Date: July 24/07
Start Weight: 250
Current Weight: You should never ask a lady how much she weighs! 153 lbs
# of weeks of healthy lifestyle: 9 months
# of lbs lost since start: Can I round it to 100 lbs? WOOT WOOT!
Goal Weight: 135
TIP: Don't waste your $$ on personal training. I got one at the start of this whole journey. Cost me over $600 and he was more worried about getting home to shave his entire body than he was worried about watching me on the treadmill. All you need to do is MOVE. Anytime of activity is a HUGE accomplishment. I went from doing ZERO exercise to working out religiously 5X a week.
TIP: Invest in heart rate monitor. This will give you the most accurate count of how many calories you are ACTUALLY burning.
TIP: Invest in a vegetable steamer. Make veggies your NEW best friend. Incorporate veggies (raw or cooked) with at least 2 of your meals everyday. Fill at least HALF your plate with veggies. There is a HUGE variety of veggies out there and they fill you up! Lots of food for little calories.

I'm happiest about keeping my weight off for a yr.........and when I go on vacation and gain, or holidays and gain, it comes right back down. THAT'S my success.........enjoying life and good things, but getting back to where I was in a reasonable time.
still need to lose another 10#
Highest Weight -216
Current Weight-201
Weight Goal- 135
Tip- Focus on muscle tone, inches lost, how your clothes fit,how you are sleeping, how your skin looks, how you feel rather than what it says on the scale.
I am losing very slowly and the weight is Staying off! No more yo-yo dieting for me!!!!

Waste is waste. If you're "done" eating, and still have food left, dont feel obligated to eat it. No matter if you trash it or eat it (or box it if you can stand left overs lingering around), it all ends up in the dump. :)
OMG! That, laughingly, makes PERFECT sense. I will have to tell myself that (I grew up in a "clean plate" club, and have been working on, among other things, to STOP that. Now, if only I can work on stopping at one bite of candy instead of the whole darn bag...
My tip, not overly imaginitive, is find out what works for YOU. What works for 10 people may not work for yourself. And to change it up. Diet, exercise, whatever, do different cardio, different diets, keep surprising your body.
Oh, personal stats:
Highest weight: nearly 300 pounds, *gulp* 5 1/2 years ago.
Current weight: 190ish (did get down to 178 last June)
Goal: 150 to start, then take it from there.
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
