What's your weight loss success story to date?

Quote  |  Reply

To give some motivation to others as well as to reach our own goals lets get together and share the success we've had to date. Also lets please share 1 tip with others that helped you in order to get results.

Start Date: July 15/07

Start Weight: 163

Current Weight: 126.5

# of weeks of healthy lifestyle: 41

# of lbs lost since start: 36.5

Goal Weight: 120

Tip: WALK!! Everyday on your lunch break. To a further bus stop than the one outside your door. Down a few flights of stairs to use the "restroom facilities" on a different floor. Walk over to speak to a co-worker instead of dialing their extension. Anywhere that you could walk in 15 min do not drive the car. Walk up a flight or two to do laundry on a different floor if you have communal laundry facilities. Just WALK as much as possible.

Start Weight: 150 lbs.

Current Weight: 135

# of weeks of healthy lifestyle: I joined CC a year ago, but I have had some slip ups along the way. I have refocused 2 weeks ago.

# of lbs lost since start: 15 lbs

Goal Weight: 122-125 lbs. We'll see how I look and fell when I get to 125.

TIP: Don't get hung up on what the scale says exclusively. Take measurements also. There have been many times during my journey when I felt better.. healthier and thinner, but when I got one scale I actually weighed more. I took a while for me to realize that I could not let it put me into a funk.

ANOTHER TIP.. More of an observation actually: Losing weight is easier when you have a supportive spouse/boyfriend, etc. My ex was the type of guy who was satisfied  being overweight and didn't eat healthy or workout. Needless to say, we broke up in November and for the past 2 months I have been dating a new guy who is fabulous for a lot of reasons..one of which is that he like to eat healthy meals when we are together and he has even joined my boxing classes. It is just so different to be with someone who is on the same page as me!

Start Date: 4 years ago, I never really went on a solid diet

Start Weight:152

Current Weight: 116

# of weeks of healthy lifestyle: ?

# of lbs lost since start: 35

Goal Weight:105-109

Tip: Exercise and count those calories. Make sure to shift your calories and have cheat days to reward yourself. :D exerciseee

Congrats to everybody.  It is so great to hear how everyone is doing!  Keep up the good work and stay focused on your goals.  If you happen to fall off the wagon just jump right back on where you got off and keep on going.

I just hit my 1/2 way point today, so I love this thread!  I don't know what tips to offer.  To be quite honest I have almost exclusively been counting calories and sporadic exercising(very sporadic!).  The lack of exercise on my part is pitiful because we have everything I could ever need.  I have just been religous about eating healthy and sticking to my calories.  Not to say I haven't had cheat days because I have but very few and far between.  Also I have had almost NO red meat which I love.  I don't know if the red meat is a factor or not but over all I do feel better!

Awesome results everyone..keep it up!

Ive lost 42 pounds this year! As of today. Ive got 13 pounds to go! The best advice I can give is to change your idea of what is NORMAL. I used to watch thin women at work eating their tiny little portions or their little frozen entrees and I felt like I could never eat like that. Never be RESTRICTED like that! But I came to realize that the reality is if you wanna be thin you have to change your whole concept of what is normal and right. I eat much less now, and I am satisfied. I work out at least 5 days a week. and my goal of weight loss has to stay uppermost in my mind, it cant be an afterthought. Also if you have a lot going on in your life. cut yourself some slack! Weight loss requires a lot of effort! Dont beat yourself up if you have other things commanding that enegy right now! When youre ready you will have the energy to pursue this goal! Be gentle with yourself. And remember if there is a lot of internal conflect remember that you are holding on to the weight for a GOOD REASON! Ask yourself what it is and really listen for the answer! Good luck and God Bless you in your efforts! When all else fails, pray for help, it works!!!

Current weight      &nb sp;   130-132

Goal weight      &nb sp;          110

I stopped counting calories and binged a lot for almost 3 weeks

I am getting back on track now

Good thread! Well done everyone!

# of weeks of healthy lifestyle: 23 week

Tip: Think of the long term. Use the diet to change your lifestyle (that got us in trouble in the first place). Stay committed. Don't worry about the occasional indulgence, just get back on the wagon. Logging calories here on CC is very useful!

I have 12lbs to go - so nearly at the end of my journey. Although weight-loss has slowed down.

Tip: When working out, if you don't feel like you will puke, you're not working out hard enough.

Goal 1: 250 pounds: Met, Goal 2: Fit in all old clothes: Almost (Still can't wear one shirt and three pairs of pants), Goal 3: 200 pounds...so close, Final goal 170 pounds and be able to run 7 miles in an hour (Can do 6 now).

Start Date: 5/2007

Start Weight: 255

Current Weight: 178

I have been doing the healthy lifestyle for just about a year.

I want to eventually be at the 150 area. I have went from a size 22 pants to a 14. I am loving the comments that I have been getting lately.

Tips: Don't pay too much attention to the scales. Sometimes the numbers don't move, but your body is losing inches. Try to go more on the way your clothes fit than what the numbers say. I have been at 178 for some while now, but I have dropped from a 16 to a 14 without the numbers moving.  GOOD JOB everyone, and keep up the good work.

Purrso,

Congratulations on your weight loss!!!  That is fantastic.  As you can see above I was 176 now 146 but I want to be 136 - I need help with the next 10#s.  I have been falling and I am not sure how to get back on.  Could you help?

What have you been doing to lose weight?  What are the types of meals you eat? and what do you do for excercise?

Thank you - traylork

Hi Traylok,

First off congratulations that is great :)

I will be happy to explain what I did but please note my method is not encouraged on the forum and I am sure many people will be telling you not to do this and its awful for your health.

I am a male 23 and eat sub 1000 calories. I eat one meal a day and that is it. I usually eat during lunch at 1pm or so. I tend to eat the same thing all the time. I either have a low carb grilled chicken wrap with a side of raw broccoli or a salad with grilled chicken (no dressing). I have been eating like this for 7 months and don't feel weak or have seen my muscles shrink :) I have also not hit a plateau over the course of my diet either.

For fitness I do cardio at the gym 3-4 times a week, 60 minutes on the eliptical Precor. I also weight train 4-5 days a week. Nothing too stressful just to ensure I don't lose muscle mass.

I think adding an extra 15mins of cardio to your routine would be a great benefit for you and probably jump start your weight loss again. About 2 months ago I had a week where I only lost 1 pound so I did this and have been back to losing 2+ a week since :)

I would also stress in my opinion I think cheat days are bad. I think once you allow a little junk back in your diet its easier to do more and more. Just do your best to stay focused. I find that mini goals really help me.

Hey all I just wanted to share.

As of 2005 I was 305 lbs, 6 feet 1 inches of flabby man. I was a 22 year old with a totally sedentary lifestyle and a diet comprised totally of McPoison and Tim Horton's (Canadian Dunkin' Donuts). I washed everything down with 2 litres of pop a day. I decided I wanted a woman in my life but in my mind no good looking woman (I'm shallow I'll admit it) would want a fat greasy dump truck who didn't respect himself enough to stay healthy.

So like any couch jockie would, I googled and found the "Sacred Heart Memorial" diet. I did it and it was good some weeks and hell others, hunger and cravings coming and going, and a houseful of equally unhealthy people always scarfing down my favorite foods in front of me because "They weren't on a diet".

I discovered reserves of willpower I didn't know I possessed and the diet started to work. Week after week I'd see 10lbs increment after 10lb increment fly off. As I got thinner I got more energetic and excited, as well as slightly more active. In 6 months I got down to 220lbs.

I looked and felt so much better, and I realized that I didn't have all the cravings for garbage food anymore. I went off the diet and completely changed my lifestyle. From then on my only fluid intake was 220 ounces of water a day, and occasionally a cup of various herbal teas. I only ate when I was hungry and felt those pangs, and only ate healthy stuff, fruits, veggies,, grass fed meats, some cool recipes I found and invented myself. When I ate out, it was a healthy sandwich at subway.

I quit adding salt, except for on occasions when I'd put a sprinkle of himalayan salt or sea salt. I also noticed that I consumed way less grains than I had before just because of how I was eating. I started easy walking everyday after supper for an hour and swimming for a couple hours every Saturday with my baby girl (In that time I hooked up with a beautiful girl and we had a daughter), I shed another 10lbs and have been 210 for 3 years.

I posted this mostly because of the mudslinging at the Sacred Heart Diet. It's not the best diet I'll agree, but it's fast and worked great for me as a motivator and helped me adopt a healthy lifestyle that I love. Thank you for listening.

Start Date: 10/1/2007  (didnt start getting serious and start my current plan until March 3, 2008)

Start Weight: 377

# of weeks of healthy lifestyle: 10

# of lbs lost since start: 51

Current Weight: 326

Current Goal Weight: 305

Final Goal Weight: 140

Tip: Eat anything you want but stay within your range. Don't deprive yourself, just watch the portions.  I find that i avoid high calorie foods once i see what the portion is and experience it. I don't feel satisfied by the unhealthy foods, but the healthy foods i can get a big portion and i feel full. So in a way just looking at portions you'll convince yourself to avoid the junk because you're only supposed to get so very little. Also weigh and measure everything! You'd be surprised how you can inadvertently sabotage your plan by guesstimating. Don't skip breakfast and drink water (even flavored)!! and finally don't "splurge" or have "free" days. those are traps. You wouldn's take a break from breathing or living, why would you take a break from healthy living?

Start wt 306

current wt.: 278

current goal: 275

final goal: 199 ( depends on how i look and feel, may be more or may be less)

CONGRATS EVERYONE!!!

Highest Weight: 308 lbs

Start date: January 7, 2008

Start weight: 260 lbs

Current weight: 217 lbs

# of weeks of healthy lifestyle: 18.5 weeks

# of lbs lost since start: 43 lbs

Goal weight:150 lbs for starters and will go from there depending on how I look/feel

TIP:  WRITE IT DOWN, BE ACCOUNTABLE...I started out writing every single food/calorie down for about 3 months & logged it on CC too once I found the website (1 week in) I still log everything on CC, and log my weight on my pad right where EVERYONE can see it!  Do you think I want to write a higher # on there?? NOPE.  I have a magnetic pad on my frig. and I wrote everything down!  Having to write it down kept me from eating something I didn't need/want.  ** Make sure to work your fav. foods in to your lifestyle change in MODERATION...for me it's Pizza I LOVE Pizza and refused to live without it...it helps to know, as long as I work it in, I can still have my very favorite food pretty much anytime I want!!  To me deprivation of your favorite things is setting yourself up for failure in the LONG run, after all this is a LIFE CHANGE, not a DIET!!

Thank you all for sharing.  I just began my trek for a healthly lifestyle on Monday and this is very motivating. I've not had time to focus on myself for years and was blessed this last year with a job that allows me to be off in the summer so I started "Project ME" on Monday.  I'm into organization so I'm making ME a project that I focus on and think about all the time.  So, even though I'm not a success story YET, I would recommend to all those out there to remember to focus on yourself.  This may sound selfish but I would venture to guess that most of you are mothers, sisters, daughters, friends to others and take care of them more than you take care of yourself.  Begin Project ME today. Because you are worth and all those people in your life think so too!

Thanks again for the stories.

Hightest weight: 290 pounds (or more)

Start date: 2003

Current weight: 218 lbs

# of weeks of healthy lifestyle: years on and off

# of lbs lost since start: 72

Goal weight:150 lbs

Tip: Be patient with yourself. It's not going to happen overnight. Also find a fitness plan and way of eating that makes you feel satisfied and happy. Anything else and you won't be able to stick with it. You can find something that is both healthy and pleasurable, it just may take trial and error. And a lot of persistance.
