what's the weirdest thing you've craved?

Quote  |  Reply

So today I had a few weird cravings....of things I never ever eat...

-A bacon butty (don't eat meat, hate butter and not keen on bread)

-Chips from the chippy (yuk, grease!)

-Doughnuts, or those weird dougnut dough strips you get from stalls on the street sometimes... you know which ones? (sugarrr and stodge!)

-A BURGER (again, the meat/bread thing)!!!

How odd? I actually really, really wanted all these things today!

I didn't have them though, but still, how odd?!?!?!! If I never eat them... (I'm prbs cravign carbs or something.. I hardly eat starchy things...)

Anyways, what have you craved recently that made you think 'Why that?!

well my mom randomly craved pickled turnips the other day (and she's more of the conservative eater)... go figure
isn it obvious that ur body is overriding ur "beliefs" about the food. u may disagree with the meat eating, and u may read in magazines that chips are fatty and bad but ur body is sayin MEAT for protein, CHIPS for fats, carbs AND calories,

ur bodys cravings are actually usually a pretty reliable information system.... its our own (humans in general) fault if we ignore them!

i used love queen cake batter!! (i wanted to be queen!)
Spaghetti sauce!! I don't know why.  I'll just sit there, and be like... "Hm... sauce sounds good right now."  And I'll get a bowl and microwave some sauce, and eat it with a spoon.

I have this craving A LOT.  Is it because I'm neglecting my Italianness that I crave tomato-based spaghetti sauce?
nuuuutt case lol.... thats priceless...."oooh il have a bowl of sauce..... mmmm"

you may be low in some certain vitamin/nutrient which is making you crave these things... such as iron defiencies leave people craving meat, so i've heard.

also when you deprieve yourself of certain foods the cravings for them will increase//. you always want what you can't have right? maybe allowing small portions of these 'forbidden' foods every once in a while or daily will ease cravings.

*slight frustration in the direction of fidget84*

Thanks Carmen -  I actually do eat pasta about once a week with sauce.  It does cut down a few cravings, but every once in awhile I'll open the fridge and see the leftover sauce, and microwave some.

have to agree on the meat thing..

not had it in years, don't like the taste, yet I wanted some of my fathers christmas beef last week (we're talking 'off beef' marinated in spicy sauce for 6weeks!) not eaten that in 4 years!

I did give into one of my cravings, but according to my bf i 'always do this' never dauned on me before! Salt and vinegar crisps, pesto, rice, egg mayo, chillie flakes in pitta, microwaved and then eaten with ketchup! That would have been my dinner tonight.. sigh.. s'pose I've been living off cheerios for 3 days, so that may be why..

*hops onto bike*

hmm, I suppose carmen and fidget are right... the thing is I actually haven't eaten mean or bread in so long I'm slightly scared to try them again! (beign anorexic and all doesn't help either...)

But yesh, I guess deprivation of certain nutrients does lead to cravings... maybe I could try another way of getting them? Hmm... *ponders*

plus... Cianderson! Wow that's a crazy combo...! Ha! Rather tempting to try though....

my moms sauce can be made into a soup its so effing good, i eat it when its simmering with a wooden spoon :) when no one is looking.

You know whats weird, i crave sweet things ALL the time...but the weird part is they arent normal sweet things...they are like honey, maple syrup, and i used to love slim fast powder. ew.

I had pasta with sauce for dinner tonight, so I'll have to see how the cravings pan out.  I can't imagine what I am lacking though.  I eat the right amount of fruits and vegetables (a little light on fruit nowadays but heavy on vegetables), meats, milk... I do skimp out on starches though, except for whole-wheat pasta, which I have once a week.

yep.

with my ED bread/pasta and sweets, aka carbs were the first thing to go! (stupid carbs=bad=fat mentality, I blame the Atkins craze!) but it left me wanting them ALL THE TIME, so this led to chewing and spitting carbs like crazy.. bagles, pasta, endless slices of bread, cake, cookies...etc. disgusting but I couldn't help it, my body wanted them soooooo bad.

now that i am allowing more calories and variation with food, these cravings have seriously subsided and i barely C&S anymore! :)

carmen that explains me to a T but i never c and S....i have only a few times, my version of c and s is more like...i will take a slice of whatever it is, cake, brownie whatever and eat like a tiny amount and like break it apart and just pretend likeim going to eat it but not really enough to make a noticable dent in the product....then throw it away or down the drain. its so wasteful and i will use up 8 cookies with tiny tiny litle bites missing before i eat just a whole one...its weird and stupid! i think upping the cals is helping!

German rye bread (you know the dark wholegrain stuff that is very heavy), bel paese cheese and Dutch peanut butter (it is much less sweet the American stuff).  I blame the cafe that I go to sometimes for their 'Dutch' breakfast.  I think that maybe I was just needing some fats, can't figure out why else it sounded good because I don't eat that very often.  I went to the café and had it for lunch and just cut back on dinner to make up for the calories.

when i started gaining from being a little underweight i found myself gulping glasses of milk and biting into chunks of cheese even though i absolutely can't stand milk and cheese. i also craved meat and butter even though i was veggie thinking about going vegan.

also once went through a phase of randomly craving pickled onions and it was physically unbearable so i had to keep going into shops and just buying a jar. hahah :D

i've never done this before but I've heard of pregnant women craving dirt.

u can trust cravings. dogs eat grass when they need to be sick, horses eat gorse bush when they are low on iron, and they eat dirt when they are low on minerals.

i know of ppl who ate coal during pregnancy.... i think its coz the zinc.

leopardrayne. sorry if u thought i was takn the p*s out of u, i wasnt at all, i jus laughd coz i hadn heard of that and the pic in my head made it funny. sorry
It's okay fidget

As for the dirt (and salt) cravings, I know EXACTLY where those come from.  It means you (or your baby, if you're pregnant) are not getting enough vitamins and minerals, especially the minerals.  You may be low on iron, or copper, or something of the like.  Your body is telling you that you're low on vitamins and minerals, and you should probably start taking a multivitamin (or prenatal if you're pregnant).

Jo

I occasionally crave strawberry jam spread on a slice of sharp cheddar cheese.

thats like ur body's backward way of askin for strawberries and cream!!! only it got the cream waaay mixed up!

is it nice??
