LOCKED TOPIC

whats wrong with eating less than 1500 calories a day?

I have been reading up in some forums and all of them have always some post about how they consume 1500  calories or more a day and how its too little when it gets arnd 1200 calories. I really dont know man. Usually, i have like 500 -700 sometimes just 300 calories a day when Im not snacking and I only snack once a week.. it depends on whether my mood really. I just consumed 2 whole packets of chocolate biscuits the other time on my snack day(i totalled 3000 calories that very day!!) but I found that I didn't gain any weight and in fact lost a bit more on the 3rd day. I have read all about the metabolic rate slowing down etc but what Im really asking is that if I do exercise as well is it ok? Like I go for body attacks and maybe some resistance training in the gym on alternate days. During these days, I try to eat a bit more so I don't faint ( I have fainting spells after I run too much and its always after the work out that I realize I pushed too hard) but I feel extremely guilty that Im eating more too. Anyway the point is, if u exercise and diet.. shldnt ur metalbolism stay up even if its below 1.2k or 1.5k?  Also, Im starting to get frustrated with the fact that I have to think so hard on whether I want to eat out nowadays bcoz Im becoming obsessive with calories .

fyi, Im 164cm, 48kg, im trying to be 45 bcoz tt was what I was before and I gained a whopping 10 kg when I came to aussie.  Yea and I started with serious dieting for 2 weeks then I slowly adjusted to eating normally and exercising, so far, this alternate days thing is by far the most I have exercised. This is my first real diet in my life and I started it on 2nd may 2009.

Please go and see a doctor about your fainting spells.  These are not normal for anybody and you really need to get it checked out.

If you want to eat below 1500 calories, that is your choice really.  No one in cyber space can make you do anything different to what you want to do.

I am 165 cm and my ideal weight is about 58 kg.  I could never imagine myself at 48 kg.  I respect my body to much to torture it in that way.

I must stress the importance that you see a doctor about your fainting ASAP.

Just my two cents:  you should not try to lose any more weight.  According to the stats you gave, you are already underweight.  I would concentrate on eating healthy (more than 2000 calories a day).  I do not know how old you are, so it is difficult to gauge exactly how much you should be eating, but you definitely should NOT be trying to lose weight.

I don't see how I am torturing myself by wanting to be 45 kg again and since that was my weight my entire life until towards the end of last yr. I have had fainting spells since I was a kid/teen when I was still in school when I had to run too much.Its not like I faint when I go shopping or whatever. Just running. Its just normal for me and a lot of people I know actually.

I am going to be 21 this yr and er, I highly doubt im underweight.. oh and Im chinese .. does that make a difference? So again my qns is, if i exercise and eat below the required amt they want me to eat, will my metalbolism still slow as though its in starvation mode?

read more  forums, they will have all your answers and more.!

In one of your other posts, you state that you're 21 yrs old 5'4- 95 lbs from 110 going for 85lbs.  Seriously; 85 pounds or was that a typo in converting kg to lbs? 85 pounds is far to low even for someone 5'4"

Fainting is a symptom of being malnourished.  You're experience of fainting even when you were younger could still be a symptom of being malnourished back then.

It sounds like you might have an eating disorder.  I agree with spoiled_candy that you need to seek advice from a doctor.  I doubt that you find what you want here on CC unless it's in the 'Health and Support' or 'Weight Gain' forums.

I'm hoping for the best of health for you.

THIS THREAD SHOULD BE DELETED...IT IS CONTRARY EVERYTHING CC. PLEASE GET HELP...YOU'RE ILL AND TRYING TO GET REINFORCEMENT FOR IT. EXERCISING WHILE STARVING YOURSELF WILL MAKE YOU GO INTO STARVATION MODE FASTER NOT SLOWER.

if 85lbs is 45 kg. then yea its correct. ANyway I got my answer from chrissy. Thanks. oh btw, I know I made it sound as though Im forcing myself not to eat or whatever.. Im not. Im just not hungry and I get full really easily probably coz my stomach is smaller but yea . SO I was wondering that if by eating this much would my body starve even though Im full thats all.

45kg is 99 pounds, 2.2 pounds per kg, but at 5'4 that's still underweight. you're only going to be 21, so not much of a history to base your "normal" weight on. our bodies change and to compare yourself to a very young you is like saying a 3 year old is fat because 3 years prior they weight 10 pounds and now they weigh 35, that's absurd. my point is that you're at a healthy weight at 105, even on the low end of healthy so you do not need to lose weight and you're killing your metabolism for a few vanity pounds. it's not worth it.

164cm = 5' 4"
48 kg = 105.8 lbs = BMI 17.8
45kg = 99.2 lbs = BMI 16.7

You are already at a low weight for someone of your height regardless of race, age, or gender. Losing any more will put you at a dangerously low weight.

For your health, it would be a good choice to start eating more and definately see a doctor about the fainting and low weight. Maybe try to gain weight, you are underweight right now. If you want to get more calories in without feeling so full try eating nuts, nut butter, or adding some olive oil to your meals.

edit: chrissy1988 beat me to some of the conversion info...

If you've honestly been reading this forum, have the ability to use google, and have been doing half the research you claim, then you already know the responses you will get here.

300-700 calories a day? Thats why you have fainting spells.

You're underweight and think you're overweight? You have a distorted body image

Your calorie intake coupled with your current weight and goals? You are showing eating disorder behavior which is not condoned or supported by this site. Up your calories, gain weight, or find a pro-ana site to post on

I truly hope that from all the responses you've received, that you realize that your way of eating, and living, is not healthy, practical, or normal.

IF you are maintaining at the amount of calories you are consuming now, in addition to exercise, then that seriously means you have a very very low metabolic rate. In other words, terrible metabolism. The only way to improve your metabolism (and overall health) is to increase your calories and eat a healthy diet. And yes, when you up your calories, you can still maintain(I will not encourage you to lose).

I am Chinese as well, 18 years old, 4 ft. 10, and your desired weight is near my happy weight. Are your goals realistic at all? Please please reconsider what you're doing.
