of course someone said to me that it was i'm 6' 240 and trying to get down to 200, every day that i workout(4-5 days/week) i drink designer whey protein after each workout, will this slow my weight loss down or help it out? help smart people pleeeeeeeease
Question: why do you drink the whey protein after a workout? I'm sure there is a reason as to why you purchased it and continue to drink it.
If you have proper nutrition, you should not be needing a protein substitute. The protein powders are typically used by bodybuilders who are looking to increase mass.
The problem with these powders is that they dehydrate your skin, thus making the skin "stick" more to the muscle, and thus (x2) making the muscle appear better or appear more cut.
Regular people do not need high amounts of protein. Protein is great to repair your muscles after a workout. But again, if you have proper nutrition, you don't need to suppliment that. However, it needs to be noted that vegetarians often have issues keeping a good level of protein as protein is often found in meats. But this isn't saying that protein powders are the best solution.
Will it help or hinder a weight loss? I don't think protein powders have much of an impact on your actual weight loss. They don't offer many benefits if you are already eating well, and too much protein can cause kidney issues.

I don't know if I'm a smart person or not, but from what my dad (a personal trainer) tells me, Protein is good, lots of protien is good if you are trying to build muscle mass. You may want to get closer to you desired weight before you start lifting hardcore. I know those shakes have a lot of calories in them. But I think in a few weeks you will be able to tell if It's working for you. I like the jelly belly sport beans. They are like 100 calories a pack. I eat a half a pack a day before I work out and they give me a little extra boost for 50 calories and I love jelly beans so they are nice. If the shakes taste like a milkshake and you enjoy them, I say go for it. Good luck!!!
Protein is great. Lots of protein can be bad. Too much protein can be fatal
There's a lot of debate on how much protein each individual needs. It should not hinder your *fat* loss at all (unless you're going over your calories with the shake). It could hinder weight loss in that it could help you to add muscle, which is unlikely on a caloric defecit, but does happen. But even then, more muscle means higher metabolism, so in the long run, that will help you with weight loss.
And unless you have a problem with your liver or kidneys, it would take a really large amount of protein to cause problems. (But don't take my advice as a replacement for a doctor)

Are you being facetious or serious? One cannot "tone" a muscle. It's a myth, regurgitated by people who wish to possess a muscular and fit physique, but who are afraid to touch weights because they don't want to "get big or bulky." i.e. people who fail by default, or give up by default and don't even try.

no you have it wrong... its like protein for men, but it also has nutrients that womens bodies need... it reves up the metabolism as well
its intended to aid in your weight lifting or toning exercises
"weight lifting or toning exercises"
Where are you getting the 'or' from?
There aren't really any exercises that are for toning specifically.

squats and such ???
Do you believe everything that you hear, regardless if it is factual or not?
I just looked up the contents:
"Trim Women's Toning Protein combines Isolated Soy Protein and Whey Protein Isolate, we have then enhanced this formula with the addition of Glutamine, Calcium and L-Carnitine."
So it's a soy and whey based protein powder, with added calcium and amino acids.
Where are these nutrients that feed a woman's body and raises her metabolism?

o sorry.. how bout burning fat faster??
In addition, we have included 2 other key ingredients to help women increase their energy levels and burn fat faster.
L-Carnitine stimulates the process that converts fat into energy to help you shed your body fat even faster.
L-Glutamine helps you manage your eating habits by reducing cravings for carbohydrates and simple sugars.
If you are serious about taking control of your life, Womens Toning Protein will assist you in achieving your health & fitness goals.

Bodyweight exercises aren't specifically for toning. They're just exercises that rely on bodyweight. Girls are always afraid of bulking up, but that's more about genetics than exercise.
Don't believe any of these special protein blend that reve up the metabolism. They're basically some mixture of whey and soy proteins with amino acid add-ins. They're also pretty much never backed by proper research. When they quote statistics about the amino acids, they're usually not looking at studies that involve oral administrated versions of these, which makes a huge difference.

L-carnitine and l-glutamine can be good supplements, but I wouldn't by any means consider them women specific.
Carnitine and Glutamine are amino acids found in protein which are found in the food that you eat. You eat them every day and don't even know it.
People (body builders for the most part) choose to supplement with different free-form amino acids hoping that it will supply their bodies with extra benefits that they aren't getting otherwise. For example, glutamine is supposed to help workout recovery while you sleep.
The supplement industry is like a giant infomercial. 95% is false claims (they get away with it though! "These claims have not been approved for comfirmed by the FDA.") Most products are junk and a waste of money.

I can promise you, supplementing with glutamine and carnitine will not reduce your sugar cravings or convert more fat into energy. If it did, I would be eating it every day. :D
On the other hand, protein powder isn't so much a supplement as it is food. Food is good.

Sorry, no link available. This is what a dietician I saw 9 days ago told me about the protein powders and such. You can take her word for it or not, your choice. I'm just sharing what a professional told me very recently in a very similar discussion I had with her.
She works at the Pro-Med clinique in the Montreal Trust building downtown Montreal. It was a professional meeting, not just two friends shooting the shit

I would think that I would have heard something about that, as I do read a fair amount of bodybuilding info, and that sounds like something that would be promoted about protein supplements in the bodybuilding comunity that seeks the cut look.
I also don't see how they could dehydrate just your skin.
It is true that high level of proteins will dehydrate you, so you need to drink more water to combat that.
