Hey, has anyone used these before? I just bought it yesterday and put some in a yogurt. I wasn't too impressed--smelled funky and just was not pleasant. Anybody have any ideas on what I can bury it in to mask all of that? Thanks!

There are many differences in Whey powders, most tend to clump so putting it into a blender or "turbo" cup(has a special lid to break clumps) is pretty beneficial. If you got unflavored and you are looking to add sweet and or flavor without a lot of extra calories you could use an herb called stevia in small amounts to supply the no calorie "sweet" and vanilla extract. There is a company called wisdom of the Ancients that makes this already prepared- I like to use it to sweeten and flavor plain yogurt. They have vanilla cream, orange, chocolate raspberry and a few others I can't recall. Just watch out for stevia as it 1000--yes thats one thousand--times sweeter than sugar and can be obnoxious in large amounts. Stevia comes in packet powder and liquid forms by itself as well. Most whey supplements are desinged as a shake and certainly fuction better that way so if you wanted to add fruits, yogurt, ice cubes(frothy and cold), orange juice and vanilla(creamsicle)-- just use your culinary imagination. There are also a ton of books, I am certain the library would have one, about making smoothies and many recipes would include protein powders and could be tailored to your dietary prferences or restrictions. Good luck! Hope I helped.
I use one right now called Whey Factors. You're right about the smell, it's definately not appetizing. I even bought the unflavoured one, but it doesn't help too much. Shoulda gone with the double chocolate!
I've found that stirring in about half a scoop with my oatmeal in the morning is bearable, any more than that and it starts to taste weird. I also mix it with chocolate milk and chug it as fast as I can. When I mix it with yogurt, I add in some berries or a banana and mix it up in the blender. It helps with the lumps *gag*. You can also use it in some recipes. I remember posting one in the recipes forum, the subject was "high protein pancakes" (I think it was in late February).

I personally take it because I'm on modified bodybuilder's diet. I need to eat 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass every day. It's hard to eat that much chicken and tuna so I have to add in some protein powder to make it to that number.
Hey everyone--thanks for all of the info. I appreciate it. The chocolate milk idea sounds like a plan. That is one thing I can drink! :) I did buy the chocolate kind--forgot to post it. To answer obsydian's question, I have never been a huge meat eater. Eating in a college cafeteria spolied meat for me for the most part! So in terms of protein, eating chicken every day and endless amounts of tuna is scaring me and I have only been doing this a week! I thought the protein powder might give me something extra to fall back on in terms of protein. Thanks!
Any more ideas would be appreciated as well!

your protien.. :)

Just watch the chocolate milk! I have a favorite- Cowabunga brand and I buy the small bottles- but there are two servings and the total calories for the "LOW FAT" is 460!!! YIKES!
As for the Whey Powder- I remember a few years ago I bought some at GNC I think it was their brand even- vanilla I believe-It was in a yellow box- it didn't clump that bad- I used to stir it in fat free milk and it tasted ok. I tried it to try to have the " full" feeling for longer cause protein also takes longer to digest.

I have chocolate whey which I add to simply smart no fat milk. Then I use one of those drink mixer thingies and mix it for about a minute. It gets think and nice and frothy. It is also delicious!
Plus only 200 calories annd almost all of it protien! No clumping by the way. I dont know the brand (i'm at work) but I'll post it when I get home,
I have tried others, a strawberry kiwi for instance, and it was horrible.

I drink whey protein sometimes as a snack or in place of a meal ( advised to by dietician).
I mix it with 2 tsp. of chocolate mix and fix it like hot chocolate or
fix it like it is a coffee and put coffee mate in it. This reduce the chomping effect and cut down on calories ....and reduce the bad taste.

I have a protein shake every morning and I feel like it's doing wonders on my body. I use Designer Whey - it's the number one selling brand and has won numerous taste tests. I've tried French Vanilla and Chocolate. In a blender, I'll add one scoop of the protein, a cup of fat-free skim milk, 1-2 packets of Splenda, and 3-4 strawberries. I'm telling you...it's delicious and so filling!
On the Designer Whey website, they also post lots of recipes...you don't have to have it "shake" style all the time.

I'm with dvang - I usually have a protien drink on the weekends before my workouts. In a blender I mix in fat free milk / 1tbsp frozen OJ / 1/2 frozen banana - sooooo yummy! It's about 260 calories but a great source of protien and gives you a serving of dairy and fruits:)
Dvang - you liked the chocoloate from Designer? I have the Body Fortress chocolate and I likeit a lot but I got it at a CVS and I don't think they carry it anymore.
I have a shake every morning too. Same thing with a cup of fat free milk. I use the Smart Start stuff that tastes like 2%

my bf uses myoplex...the chocolate one and blends it with peanut butter and a banana with ice. so its like a protein smoothie/milk shake...oh and he uses water...makes it taste great
Designer Whey is definitely the best tasting protein powder. Remember, this is blended with other ingredients. I don't think ANY protein powder would taste good plain with water.
Also, I'd suggest experimenting with different recipes...use different fruits or extracts (like peppermint).

I too have the designer whey with water, a banana, splenda, ground flax seed, & crushed ice, & blend it all together, taste great. I use it for a substitute meal. I'm not big on breakfast, and the shake holds me easily til early afternoon.
As some others have mentioned, protein supplements simply help you get the protein your muscles need in an easier to manage package. (it's easier to mix a shake than grill some chicken) :)
That said, I've been using GNC's Pro Performance Whey daily for several years now with (IMHO) good results. It comes in 20, 40, and 60 gram varieties and is intended to be mixed with 12 ounces of liquid.
I've tried most of their flavors, and I tend to prefer chocolate. (Whatever you do, steer clear of Berry Blast, that stuff is revolting.) I mix mine with water to save on calories, and the shakes still taste pretty good.
I typically drink a shake immediately after my workout, unless it's an off day; then I fit one in between meals.
When I'm lifting very heavy I also use GNC's PM Protein shakes right before bed. They have a mix of whey and casein protein, to prolong absorbtion throughout the night. I'll warn you, casein shakes do not taste good.
In short, I can easily recommend the GNC Pro Performance shakes. They taste pretty good, are easy to mix in a shaker, and provide some extra protein for your muscles.
